Atlantis team is 'Condemned'
TUESDAY - APRIL 19, 2005
GateWorld has obtained the first plot info on "Condemned," an early Season Two episode of Stargate Atlantis! Beware of spoilers in the report below.
Colonel Sheppard and his team visit the planet Olesia, whose people appear to live in peace from the Wraith -- and who possess a much higher level of technology than the other civilizations they have thus far encountered. The Olesians are led by the Magistrate, a confident politician with a self-serving agenda.
Olesia's Stargate is located on an island that has been used as a penal colony for hundreds of years. The Magistrate claims that the Wraith have always been satisfied with the prisoners they cull there when they come through the gate, and have no need to venture further. This, of course, makes it extremely important to keep the island populated with so-called "criminals."
When the Puddle Jumper crashes on the island, Sheppard, McKay, and the others become hostages to the prisoners. Torrell, a charismatic serial killer, threatens to kill the team members one-by-one if Dr. McKay does not repair the ship so that he can make his escape -- something McKay insists is impossible.
Meanwhile, we learn that the Magistrate has made an unholy alliance: for generations a Wraith has used the penal colony to sustain himself rather than going into hibernation. Now that so many Wraith hives are awaking and there is not enough food in the galaxy for them all, he intends to rise to power among the Wraith by meeting their needs himself -- with help from Olesia.
Guest characters include the Magistrate, Torrell, Marin (an Olesian), Lorne (an Olesian), Eldon (a prisoner), a Wraith, and a Technician. Dr. Weir also makes a rare off-world trip in the episode when her people are captured.
"Condemned" will be directed by Peter DeLuise when it goes before cameras this Friday. Stick with GateWorld for more info in the weeks ahead!
Feel free to start nattering amongst yourselves, i look forward to readin your views.

wier off world? wonder if she'll do a hammond like war cry?
jamesyBHOY where are you getting all these pics from?
i read spomewhere (possibly gateworld) that sheppard tells the governer of the prison that atlantis was destroyed. wonder if this whole season will be spent trying to keep the fact that atlantis is still in one piece secret from the wraith.
what happened to make the wraith think that it was destroyed?
anyway back to this episode.
PJ crashing on the island. i thought that sheppard was a better pilot than that? y does it crash in the 1st place?

Yeah man..the pics are sweet!
Any idea what is causing the explosions? I read that these humans are fairly advanced - even more so than the Genni - yet why do i see machetes and longbows in these pictures?
Perhaps caus its a prison..the prisoners make do with what they can find.
Ronon looks to be a gr8 character!

This sounds like it could be interesting. Weir goes off-world! I have been wanting that since the beginning. So they have a penal colony to feed the one wraith. I have to wonder just how guilty some of these people are, or were they just used for food.

Yep! It's the same actor (Alan Peterson) that played the Canon in 'Demons', Season 3-Episode 8.

Oooh! Can't wait to see this ep. It looks really cool! I feel especially attacthed to it because it's very similar to a fic I was working on. The details were a bit different but the premise is pretty much the same. The civilisation on a planet sets aside part of its population for the Wraith to cull to save the rest of their world from the attack. Makes me wish I'd thought of it sooner or was done writing it already.
On the upside, I don't have to imagine it anymore - I get to see it! Yay!

I was just thinking that. My assumption was that when they first started this it was actual criminals. Then as time went on the system became harsher...
What ever you do, don't jaywalk!

Nice to see Major Lorne (sounded like Loren to me?) appearing again. They could have used a guy like him from the beginning, instead of Lt. Ford, who was sadly underused.
