QUOTE
Sheppard and his team finally catch up with Lieutenant Ford (Rainbow Sun Francks), missing since "Runner" (Season Two's third episode). Ford has been altered by exposure to a Wraith enzyme, which gives him extraordinary strength and agility -- like a drug. In the months since he left Atlantis, Ford has gathered a small group of followers, who also take the drug and who are bent on taking the fight to the Wraith.
Among them are Kayano and Jace, two young men who have pledged themselves to Ford's cause. Kanayo is the group's leader and a former Genii spy, though like the others his judgment has clearly been affected by the Wraith enzyme. Jace is a technical expert, who has become adept at extracting the enzyme from defeated prey and, thanks to its improvements of his mental acuity, has cracked some of the Wraith language.
The group of young warriors has made several successful attacks on the Wraith, retrieving data nodes and utilizing stolen Genii computers and technology from other races. They have also learned much about the Wraith as a species -- such as the fact that they are territorial creatures, and not a unified collective.
Jace even suggests to Dr. McKay that they are fracturing even further as a result of Teyla's newfound telepathic abilities, restricting the access that an individual ship has to the Wraith telepathic network.
Ford and his followers are vague about their impending plan, but all is soon revealed to Colonel Sheppard: They intend to raid a Wraith hive ship and destroy it, and they want the team's help.
"The Lost Boys" is expected to air in September as the final episode of the summer season on The SCI FI Channel. The conclusion, "The Hive," should air in the U.S. in January.
Sounds good.

I can't wait for this episode, it sounds really good. I think their will be good effects in this episode with Ford and his buddies having all those special abilities as in the super strength and agilty.

Sounds like X-men - Stargate style...

I'm so glad to hear that Ford is going to get the chance to do something juicy. It also sounds like this season is going to be much more complex with interesting layering between the team members themselves as well as their (apparent) enemies. Also,

Does this statement mean it's the Wraith that are fracturing? Jace even suggests to Dr. McKay that they are fracturing even further as a result of Teyla's newfound telepathic abilities.

Cant really comment on this episode yet as there isnt much of a background story. I get the impression that the Wraith are becoming Goa'uld-like. They dont operate as a whole "collective" and they are territorial, seems familiar.
I wonder if the title of the episode means that those who are effected by this enzyme cannot die? The Lost Boys in Peter Pan basically lived forever (they didnt grow up) or does it refer to the film of the same name that featured Vampires?

Dafmeister, what an interesting thought! I was thinking of it in terms of the Peter Pan thing that the Lost Boys were, well, lost and didn't know how to find their way home - meaning that they had lost their own essence and become something else.
But yeah, I bet the writer's had both of these references in mind. Good catch.
Posted by: Mister Oragahn May 27th 2005, 5:32 PM
Possibly both, since both would fit with the ideas here (unknown territories, boys, youth and vampirism).
Posted by: JamesyBHOY May 27th 2005, 6:28 PM
I originally thought 'The Lost Boys' as in the movie. Hunters & all that. Suppose come to think of it though the Peter Pan bit probably bears good resemblance as well. Since if they're part Wraith, then they might never age as long as they get regular doses of the Enzyme.

I couldn't find any. So by chance I read mu own & saw it was me who originally made the mistake. Doh! It was just a Typo, I was running late that morning for work & missed out the Lt. , which should have went before the Col. part.

Following Lieutenant Ford's plan to use his new army of young men enhanced by the Wraith enzyme to attack a Wraith hive ship in "The Lost Boys" Lt.Colonel John Sheppard finds himself a captive of the Wraith.
Ford and Sheppard are in captivity aboard a Wraith Hive ship as their convoy travels through space. They find themselves sharing a cell on board a Wraith ship with Neera, a timid young girl he rescued from a stasis cocoon. Neera's entire world was destroyed, and the girl once witnessed her mother and her brother being fed upon by the Wraith. She knew that she was marked for this grisly fate as well. Neera is intimidated by Ford, who is also captured -- but comforts him when he begins to experience withdrawl symptoms due to a lack of Wraith enzyme. Ford is eventually taken away by the guards & takes her place in the cocoon in instead. While Neera blames herself for their capture.
Sheppard tries to keep the mood light to encourage Neera, while at the same time looking for a way to escape. She is impresses that the Colonel does not fear the Wraith, and wants to know more about where he comes from.
She tells Sheppard that her whole world was destroyed by the Wraith and her people were culled and brought to this Hive ship. She had to watch as her mother and younger brother were fed upon. Her people were a simple people and had no means to fight the Wraith.
Back on Atlantis, McKay and Zelenka confer with Weir and Colonel Caldwell; McKay seems very worried.
Later on in the episode, it seems that Neera and Sheppard get a little closer and she ends up sleeping next to him to keep warm. Sheppard comforts her by telling her that she can go back to Atlantis with him when they manage to escape and also tells her of Earth.
Sheppard tried to get some sleep when suddenly they feel the ship drop out of HS. Shep comments that they must be getting close to the culling.
A short time later, 2 Wraith Grunts & a Male Wraith suddenly appear at the cell door & it opens. They grab him and drag him from the cell before he can react.
At some point it turns out that Neera is a Wraith worshipper sent by the Hive Queen to gather information from Sheppard. Her shy, frightened attitude shifts to one of blind devotion.

The second part looks even better than the first in my opinion. It looks to be another action-packed Wraith episode, which has got me very excited.

I don't understand why the Wraith will not simply extract the information through telepathic interrogation as they did with Sumner.

It is one thing to defeat your enemies by force, but to have them realize that they defeated themselves, that is a greater and sweeter victory.
Rocks out.

Wouldnt it have been the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs advising the President, then the President issuing the order to promote him to Lt. Colonel, then the order filtering down through to O'Neill, then Landry, then to Caldwell and finally to Sheppard?
Posted by: Joda Sep 28th 2005, 11:10 AM
Usually there is a committe of people who will sit down and discuss who is eligible for promotion, then when they've made their decisions, they'll send the promotion orders out to the immediate commanding officer, who will place the new bars, or stripes, or stars, or whatever new insignia they get.
Although I think there is a Presidential role in the process... but that might only be for the High ranks... I.E. Generals, Admirals, etc.
Edit: Of course I forget the point of the post... in a case such as this, (Shep being reccommended) ... I would hazard a guess that the decision would fall to O'Neill as Head of Homeworld Security. I think... I could be wrong... anyone who knows more care to enlighten us all?

We get the season on SCI-FI and they, for some reason split their seasons in half on all the shows. Consequently, we don't get the second half until January. It's not like the shows haven't already been taped, they have.

When the UK gets the second halves of season 9 of SG1 and season 2 of Atlantis, we will be a few weeks ahead of the US. It has been like that for a few years. Plus we also get season 2 of Galactica on Sky One in January.
Sky One will be showing the uncut opening credits.

You'd think Sheppard would look about 80 by now with all the times he's been "snacked" on.
I don't know if Andee Frizell is anorexic. Certainly she's thin, but that look could just be a function of the white makeup and the tight black leather.
Jamesy still isn't around?

WRAITH QUEEN?????
Does this mean we have some big boss that everyone in the race obeys, and who talks to, makes deals with, betrays etc etc, the title characters, as with a certain cybernetic race in a certain other science fiction programme?
.........Just wondering out loud here people.

Well it makes sense that the wraith would have some sort of leadership, though I don't think the entire race obeys her, remember they are a feudal tribal society.

I bet it was not very important who promoted him, but Everet certainly didn't. He was still being refered to as Major in the flashback sequences of Intruder. It was Weir that recommended he get promoted, and likely some general that promoted him. It was, after all, O'Niell that promoted Carter to Lt. Colonel(That just doesn't seem like its spelt right....)
This episode will be a good episode, and since TMN shows the full intro, it will be even sweeter to see it rather than the cut down intro from SciFi. Can't wait to see what happens to Shep in this one.

Ok this is about "The Hive" 211. Set to come on January 6th, 2006.
QUOTE
STARGATE ATLANTIS - 9 p.m.
"The Hive" - McKay (David Hewlett) races against time to rescue Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), Teyla (Rachel Luttrell), and Ronon (Jason Momoa) after they are captured and held hostage on a Wraith hive ship.
Captured by the Wraith, Sheppard, Teyla, Ronon, and Ford (Rainbow Sun Francks) are being held hostage aboard a hive ship. As the team desperately searches for some means of escape, they are shocked to discover a coalition of Wraith followers on board the ship.
McKay, who is still stranded on Ford's planet, soon realizes that the team has been captured. In order to escape the planet, he comes up with an unconventional plan: he injects himself with a massive amount of the dangerous Wraith enzyme. The drug provides him with brute strength, and after knocking the guards that surround him unconscious, he is able to dial the gate and leave the planet. When he arrives on Atlantis completely incoherent, Dr. Weir (Torri Higginson) and Dr. Beckett (Paul McGillion) put him under immediate medical supervision.
Once recovered, McKay is able to calculate the location of the ship upon which the team is stranded. As tensions rise on the hive ship between the Wraith and the Atlantis team, he and Caldwell (Mitch Pileggi) must devise a plan to bring the rest of their team to safety.

If the Genii were given the enzyme it would only make them more determined to take Atlantis. We have seen that the enzyme limits rational thought and to give it to the Genii would likely cause them to try to take Atlantis at any cost and by any method.
