I liked the part where Eben asked, "Did it occur to you that you were passed over for promotion so many times because you are a complete moron?"
And then later, "I guess not."
Being the car and race fan that I am, I got a kick out of this episode. The commentary and commericals by the network of the planet I can do without. I just thought it was over the top. I get the general impression that Amanda Tapping must be a gearhead and race fan. Maybe it's me but I noticed that she really seemed to get into this episode.
Murray makes a return again.
I love it when they draw references to past episodes. Truly enjoyable.
Hmm, I really don't know what to think of this ep. Those two news guys that kept popping up really overstayed their welcome. They got really annoying; I wish the writers would've kept their presence to a minimum. That was really the only thing that I didn't like about this ep.
As for the characters, Carter and Teal'c got the most screentime, while Jack and Danny boy had about 10-15 mins air time. The race itself wasn't much of a race since everyone kept bombing out. The special effects were really good though. It's a shame the show doesn't get much recognition for it.
Looks like those ion engines could really be a boost to the F-302. If we had did get that engine upgrade, we could run circles around the DGs. There's one thing I didn't catch though. What did the aliens(forgot their names) want in return for an ion engine?
war Jack O'Neill, war sg-1 missions, war daniel jackson, Dave in sa-town OUT.
I believe they are getting a stargate in return for the ion engine. I liked the episode but I also think like most everyone else that the announcers were over the top. It's kinda cool how the two races live together and how u have humans, warricks race (can't remeber their name), and the cross between the two. I bet we see these guys again in season 8.
Just remebered the name of Warricks race the Cerakins or however its spelled.
dl it know of net and watch it when I get up and tell you all what I think about it!!!

Okay, great effects... made the ep, but one trivia question, what is the actor's name that played Warrick's brother... Ebin, I beleive..
i could swear that was the actor who played Fraisers brother in the comedy series 'Fraiser'. Anyone ?

A civilization as advanced as that and they still are plagued by commericials?!
Maybe humans aren't as bad off as I thought!
Oooookkkkk!.......will somebody please tell me WHAT was up with those announcers?!! i'm not sure, but i think that was purposely cheezy and annoying! i really think the writers got a kick out of that , it sounds like something they'd do in a spoof movie or something.
Amanda really got into this episode! great on screen chemistry, i kinda liked the part when when teal'c didn't want to go on to the diplomatic relations meeting and told jack that sam asked him to stay behind, and he didn't want to disappoint her!
oh, just out of curiosity......how do you raise your rank, 'cause i'm still a civilian and i've been posting stuff for the last three months, soooooany answer's a good one!
ok the guy in aliens dont look like the other aliens in Forsaken not the same mask ... i am sure like 80% .. did anyone see that too ?

aww everyone is always so nitpicky on these boards ![]()
I thought this was a decent episode, I didnt really see anything wrong with it. The commentator people I thought were a nice touch, sure they were cheesy but whats wrong with that?. They are perfectly plausible and I chuckled a few times at thier adverts and such ![]()
Anyway, a nice episode, and different too, different is good

Great episode, seemed a bit off from the storyline, but I guess they want to fly faster
anyway, *someone* put it on kazaa, go download and share if ya wanna. It will save me, i mean.... whoever made it uploading time
Just watched it again. I would have traded some of the the announcers' time for the deleted scene that's posted on SciFi (why did they take that out? it was good!), but it was still fun!
Wow, awesome board! First post here. ![]()
My favorite moment in the episode was Teal'c identifing himself as Murray to the Tekcon receptionist. That just put me on the floor. Great reference to Point of No Return and Wormhole Extreme.
So Sam told Daniel at the end of the episode that she'll kick butt next year. Wonder if we'll see Space Race II in Season 8.
The TV announcer parts didn't do much for me.
SS
Go episode...i hope they have another race in the 8th season and we enter one of our own ships, like the x-304...if possible. After watching all those ads, i want to buy some Tech Con stuff...lol...just joking. The moron part was funny too.
This post brought to you by the TechCon Media Conlomerate. A subsidiary of the TechCon Group...'All hail TechCon'

Aah, huh. go figure. Evidence. Lol I was looking for a screen cap, too. Anyway, thanks. *bows*

Well i have finally downloaded "Space Race" and wow, this was such a great episode, the space ships were cool, special effects were great, i might have to go back and watch "Forsaken", i didn't think that episode would be worth watching.
Something else, IMDB says Epiosde 7.7 when that should be 7.8
Anyway, it's been said, but I agree, I am so happy for Sam! She is finally shedding her scientist image a bit and becoming a little funny like amanda tapping wanted, as she said in the lowdown. I hope they deveop her more and more as having a normal, un-boring, exciting liife beyond her work at the sgc. Cuz, I think she was awesome as herself in the lowdown, and this was probably one of her best episodes yet. Amanda Tapping is so HOT! wow!!

Good episode, Carter is more agressive. I like that. The only thing I dislike is not to see enough O'Neill and Daniel. But the beginning with all the team is funny.
Carter (about the translation): it's mine SIr.
or,
O'Neill: She did !
Carter: I did !
Teal'C: I don't want to disappoint Major Carter.
O'Neill: Yeah, I now that feeling !!
Teal'C: I am in debt with you, Major
Carter: Indeed
(please forgive me all the mistakes I have done, Thanks!)

David Hyde Pierce is the actor that Played Niles on Frasier. The guy that played Eamon is Patrick Currie. Coincidently he also played the Unas "Chaka" in the episode "Enemy Mine". Kinda neet that this guy gets to play a couple different roles in the same show. |
hehe, my take on the episode... very fun, I was actually looking forward to this episode. Not as good as I imagined but nevertheless a good sg1 episode. Orpheus is still better serious-wise this season, and Fragile Balance is still better comedy wise. There are a few gripes with it too.
Notes:
- Continuation from 'Forsaken' in Season 6
- A funny episode, sarcasm, jokes, etc nearly all the way through
- Sam being so eager on something. We actually havent really see this side of her - 'Kick butt'?
- I actually throught Warrick is some kind of officer or high ranking post in the government in Forsaken. Looks like transporting prisoners is just a job.
- How did Warrick get to Earth? Stargate? did they have one, or did Warrick fly to Earth. Did he know where to find us? I suppose after Forsaken they would have swapped info on each other and probably some contact.
- News/update reporters??? So Earth, and so lack of imagination - but I suppose this isnt about imagination, its about being funny.
- Race being dangerous? No kidding! I knew (as well as Sam) that space race is dangerous by itself. Definitely not prepared for the shooting drones and passing near the sun. The ice obstacles, even though dangerous, was expected as you always have obstacles in races that you must avoid (testing of pilot skills).
- I was a bit dissapointed there wasnt any race fail safe for people getting pulled in by the sun... I mean the drones stopped shooting when the ships were disabled so why couldnt they have someone pull them out?
- Looks like a very large monopolising company - is this what Microsoft will become?
- I always said the Ion drive could replaced N'aquida drives and that each race could have their own space travelling drive equivalent. Not everyone uses hyperdrives including the Asgard! They even have things that can easily match the power of the n'aquida reactor!
- Admittely I was suspicious of the race really trying to overtake the humans cause we seen one before - the Ashens did the same thing - share technology and slowly kill them off.
The SG1 now have an ion drive technology although Sam Carter did say they couldnt produce some of the parts. Toobad they didnt win the race...
Whenever I saw the announcers and the product endorsements, I kept thinking about how that part was almost ripped off from RoboCop.
Always good to see Carter smiling and flashing those big pearly whites.
I enjoyed this since I'm a race fan. Especially at the end, when Carter is talking about the cheating. Winners often get accused of cheating in racing.
I just watched the deleted scene on the SciFi website. Teal'c was telling Jack that Warrick and Carter were having trouble. Jack's concern for Carter was a super subtle shippy moment but a moment just the same.
It also had a classic Jack one-liner. Considering how little he's in the show now I think it would have been better to keep this scene and edit out some of the sports commentary.
Good episode, nice shippiness, decent storyline. One problem. It's becoming more and more apparent the abscence of RDA. Not only is his abscence felt, but the brashness and charisma of the whole team seems to be dissappearing. I will continue to watch Stargate of course. It's just that although it is great to see these individual episodes about Carter, Daniel, and Teal'c. It needs to reminded that this is Stargate SG-1 not Stargate SG-1/2 or 3/4. But to all fairness, RDA does need to spend more time with his kids.
The commentary was most annoying. I rewatched it and FFWD through all the commentary sets after the first one. They really didn't add much to the story. The only thing I can figure is that someone (director, writer, producer) is a big sports nut and finds that stuff really funny. I never understood the concept of watching sports on television, so I guess I just don't get it.
The deleted scene? Don't you just love how this concept has pervaded the entire entertainment experience? On a plot-hole note (maybe), the deleted scene should have been left in because it may have set up how O'Neill and Jackson knew Teal'c and Eamon were at TechCon in the first place. It puzzled me when the O'Neill said "Teal'c? Still at TechCon?" on the radio when there hadn't been any indication that O'Neill or Jackson knew what was going on outside of what Carter told them ("we ran into a little trouble"). Then they just show up there and meet with "old friend" Hagan, who had only previously appeared as an announcer for the race data on the monitor. I also imagine there are more deleted scenes from the soiree that introduced Hagan. All that story development scrapped for the announcers...bleh. But I still liked the whole Carter-gets-to-have-fun episode...I'm easy to please.

Yep. If they know Teal'c is not using his real name, they don't even have to guess anymore.
Another boring ep in my opinion. Well for me at least. Carter should tie her hair back.
Commentators were boring. Plot boring.
It could have been better. I did, however, like the part where they rescued the other pilot. The other pilot did not want to board, and Warrick was quite happy to close the hatch and go on. Carter snatched the hatch door from Warrick and ordered the other pilot up...and he came! Loved that part.
Well... they certainly had fun making this ep, dontcha think?
I reckon it started off as a good idea but then they got carried away. And then they realised that it was up to them anyway, so 'why not have one ep where we can just play? Come on, it'll be fun.'
My eyebrow seemed to be permenantly raised throughout that ep, and tongue lodged firmly in cheeck.
As long as they had fun, fair enough. But back to work next week lads though, if you don't mind.
<EDIT> PS: They're finally, FINALLY giving Sam a sence of humour and, no offence, a personality!... 'bout time, folks!

lol. great Zxexn is a wigger!
sam well without her Nerdly ness the gate wouldn't be working..
remember her and others got it towork.. daniel just cracked the code. as he said!
turning sam into a slurry. would be funny. first she would score jack. then daniel then teal'c. teal'c seems more interested in ppl his age and race!! jaffar. been his race. cept he isn't really a jaffar now that he has no gou'ald lava!
he hooks up wid the jaffar girl! who looks HOT! in the next ep.. well he kissed her on the preview i saw ne way!
They got it to 'work' in 1945. Without the code as you put it, they wouldn't be able to do anything with it. Most of the rest of your post had too much slang for me to follow.
Yo, first post, bin visiting u all for ages, love the posts and idea's
Okies, I have an underlaying question and its driving me mad. Its only just occured to me after watching this ep, but when Jack goes to see Thore to get all the Anciant tech out his brain, Thore tells him that the human race is the 5th race... what are the species in this ep? the 6th race?
Bah, sorry I get braindead on the simplest of things
That wasn't Thor, and he didn't say we were the fifth race. He said we have the potenial for and had taken the first steps toward becoming the fifth race in the Alliance. I don't know what the Asgards opinion of this race is, or whether they are even in the running, so to speak.
[QUOTE]Same doesn't have a sense of humor. She's wierd if you ask me. Always playing with her gadgets like a nerd. I think she should just have a one night stand with Teal'C. Once you go black, you never go back.
Ok call me stupid but I think that Sam was great in this episode. She was really cool.
And thinking of Sam and Teal'c together ...A ONE NIGHT STAND!...yuk!
.
Don't get me wrong, I like Teal'c but I would never see them togheter. Daniel would be better(I mean with Teal'c
)
Whatever, the best parts of the ep are:
Sam:What is this?
Warrik: A complete operations manual for the Seberus. I had it translated for you.
Sam:Thank you.
Jack:Thats not our language!
Sam:It's mine, sir.
or
Teal'c: I'm in your debt Major Carter.
Sam: Indeed.

Anybody who has seen seen Sam biting her lip at some of the situation that Jack finds himself in should have an idea of her sense of humor. Just because she doen't put down everybody in the next three counties does not mean she doesn't have a sense of humor. As for that last, Sam is not the weird one if you ask me. |
I think Sam has a sense of humor, but it is written as a lot more subtle than Jack's. AT might think of it as no sense of humor because it doesn't match hers.

AmazinG! unbelievable, unlike anything i've seen on Stargate before. Some of you may think this is an over reaction but hell no! That ep was different from a usual stargate ep and i loved it.
Ok so what did one like about it hmm lets see. The superb special effects/affects (Never sure which spelling u use
) on the city. The way they did the continious news reports on the race and advertised alien products. Teal'c's bit of humour at the beggining was also great trying to get out of the meeting etc and Carter saying "indeed". I also liked the whole sabatage idea and the kind of idea of racism if u will of those guys who thought that humans were being mistreated by the........i'm not sure how to spell their race name so "brown dudes".
Jack wasn't in the ep much but thats ok i can handle it
. He still had a few good moments talking about resemblence between Warrick and Eaamon or however u spell it. Umm Daniel like Jack didn't get much screen time but i guess he did get rather a lot in "lifeboat" but hey. This was rather a Sam ep and i like that.
I hope we will see more of Warrick and co and i'm happy we accuried some technology i'm sure O'Neill will be most entrigued. Hopefully hopefully hopefully the season will continue with this great success.
PS: O'Neill to the receptionist said something like
"Tell him that Mr I have the stargate is here" or something lol.
Murry lmao

Funny ep, although to a certain extent i was fairly dissapointed.
I guess i expected more from the race, after all, wasnt it supposed to be this highly dangerous race, yet all the action we really saw was at the start when they were being fired upon by those drone things. However, we did get to see a more playfull side to Sam, which i hope is the start of some character development as in my opinion, she has the most underdeveloped character in the show.

OMA! What has Damian Kindler done to the series!?
This episode was filled with all the things that annoyed be about things like Star Trek: Voyager. The Cerakans, invented by Kindler in 'Forsaken', broke Stargate's good record of having no bumpy foreheaded aliens. Admittedly, they're better than most of Westmore's plasticine "wonders", but they're still so-called aliens that don't convince me for a second that they are really alien. The Asgard are alien. The Goa'uld are alien. The white naked guys are alien. The Cerakans are not alien.
While I appreciated that an alien civilisation are shown to have a dynamic economy, something that the writers of Star Trek always forget. The similarity in style to American culture is yet bumpy foreheadism.
The technobabble is back. Ion drive? There are two ion powered spacecraft in space right now. Damian Kindler said on The Lowdown he has the habit of just making things up rather than researching things properly. We're seeing that right now. Those who don't do research, use technobabble. That's why there has been remarkably little technobabble throughout the series. Because all the other writers do their research! In 'Forsaken', he wrote the advanced level of the Hebridans as being a mystery that was solved with the discovery of the Cerakans, when in fact more advanced human civilisations were explained as early back as 'Enigma' and the introduction of the Tollan, a race that were killed off the year before he arrived.
Yes, he did good with The Other Guys and there were some good lines in this episode, which makes it better than Star Trek's recent years, but I hope Kindler gets his act together before he becomes Stargate's Brannon Braga.
It says a lot though when Stargate's worst is still better than Enterprise's best.
Of course, James Tichenor is still as hot as ever. The CGI was stunning. The Hebridan city was full of colour and had a pretty spacey train. The space shots were movie quality.
I just saw this episode for the second time, and correvt me if i'm wrong, was one of the announcers the same man who played the assasin in "The Enemy Within" and the father with the little boy in "Revisions"? I mean i really think it was him except he had, kinda bad, fake alien make-up on, but i could be wrong!
There was no assassin in 'The Enemy Within', i think the episode you're refering to is 'In the Line Of Duty'. I dont think it was the same man, but i agree that they do look alike.
Dont' know why people are getting annoyed by the commentators. Anyone who has watched the cricket would just not be phased by these two guys. I defintely wasn't. This was a good ep. Any shippers out there could be quite pleased with the under currents here. Won't go into it now but anyone who wants to know my thoughts, just say the word. Also people wondered how they got to Hebridia [is that the planet?] without a star gate and considering it was so far away. Perhaps they took the stagate to that planet on which the convict ship crashed and then took a space ship to
Hebridia. [?] Easy.

Jack was back to his usual sarcastic ways and the whole team did the SG1 thing!!I loved the peice between Sam and Teal'c though was a definite highlight!! And everytime those advertisement people came on cracked me up!! Though my dad started to freak out everytime which was funny in itself!! ![]()
Hey Stardoe i just gave ya the word to contact me about the shipper undercurrents!!
I really love the commentary. And the adds.
Its just so realistic, just like Bathurst is here in Perth.
Noone cares who is killed or mangled, butsurely they must be 'disappointed'.
This episode was one of the funniest ive seen, but if Sam acts like that in another episode I dont know what I'll do.
TEAL'C SMILED!!! What I liked the most was the way in which Sam didnt even flinch at the site of the ships manual, and jacks "thats not our language". very funny, loved it.

I enjoyed this episode! Its not "stargate's worst"! I liked it. It was funny and interesting and different. I liked the planet they went to and the commentators with the ads, its was cute and quite obviously UNserious, which is my favorite thing about stargate!
I say Sam and Daniel were flirting when they had those humor scenes together
This episode was a blast. Really shows Sam competitive nature. Hope we see Warick (sp). again.
Sam in a space race how cool is that. One thing about the race is that there are no rules in it.
I never thought I would have to say this about a stargate epsiode, but:
THIS EPISODE SUCKS
I know there were some subtle hints at a star wars ripoff. However, in this episode, I felt as if I was watching Star Wars rhater than StarGate. Whoever made this episode should be severly punished.
I must be in the minority, but I really liked the TV announcers. They (& tekcon) represent the worst of commercial television (& sport reporting). Very funny!!
I also found the inter-racial aspect very interesting.
Good to see Sam/Amanda finally having fun too!
I thought the announcers were quite funny as well. "Keep your fun count up and your legion count down with Radon 55!"...or something like that...
The whole episode had a slightly cheesy feel about it, but I liked it.
I think I have the right episode for this one, but I could be wrong. Anyway, for me the funniest moment was when Sam was humming to herself in the elevator -- and the tune was the show's opening theme!

Thanks for clearing that up! I lose track sometimes when Sci-Fi shows several eppys back-to-back in a single night. I've only been hooked on SG-1 for about a month now, so I'm not as familiar with individual episodes of this show as I am with say, ER, which I've been following closely for years!
I have to say that certain aspects of this ep. were strange to say the lest, personally I found those comentators a bit creepy. Although I did like the humour in this ep. very funny- "Murray", "Indeed".
Did anyone notice when Jack and Daniel are at Techcon looking for Teal'c, and the "boss guy" arrives that when Jack gets out of his chair that the chair slides on the ground and goes quite close to the water in the background? He looked like he was half asleep or something?
I think this was a good ep. for one reason- Sam came out of her shell alot, and did something for herself, not just for the team or for the airforce.
YOU GO GIRL!
What a boring episode. Seriously, did anyone else think 'Total Recall' meets 'Star Wars'?????????
I was like ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
It wasn't really Stargate orrientated, could of been done by any TV show really. A shame really.
I really liked this ep, unlike "Enemy Mine", which for some reason didn't gel with me at all
I thought it was great that we finally got to see AT having some fun, and Carter looking really psched (sp) up about an off-world mission, unlike the times when she's purely military. Loved the way she practically begged Hammond to let her help Warrick
Is it my imagination, or did she come across as more girly in this ep? "What's a girl to do?" Also loved her line at the end "Very cool"
And indeed it was.
This ep was really good. Loved the scene where Jack said 'Thats not our language'. The only bad thing about this episode was the commentators. they really annoyed me.
To me, this is one of the episodes where it is clear to see that RDA is not around as much as he use to be - what did he have, 2 mins of screen time? Still not enjoying season 7, might buy season 6 and just re-watch it.
Did anyone else think Jack was lying when he said they had managed to trade for an ion engine? I thought he was the first time, and it was a long enough interval, that I thought the same thing the second time.
We heard in the beginning that negotiations were going very slowly, but they managed to make an agreement very quickly. I thought he knew that Sam was too excited about winning the race for her own good, so he lied in order to try and convince her that taking big risks wasn't necessary.
I can't believe I thought that twice.
I am in that weird in between land where I loved certain aspects of this episode and had to struggle hard to stay awake during others - and that was even with the DVD fast fowarding action.
I loved seeing a more assertive, bouncy fun, determined-to-have-that-fun version of Sam. I liked the visuals, heck I even liked the satiric take off on the announcers - who were so cheesy and over-the-top that it made for a fun parody as far as I was concerned.
But I'm also the person that figured out 19 different ways to check my watch during the pod race in Star Wars Episode I. So, race scenes don't do it for me.
Other things did though. The aforementioned "Oh it's a different side of Sam!" The two races trying to live together, etc.
I really wanted to love this one but instead I liked it and that was simply because I desperately wanted Sam to have a little bit of joy in her life. She was like a big incredibly intelligent kid in her excitement about the race.
I found it fun for that reason.
This episode was good, though the race reminded me of Star Wars Episode I, when Anakin was racing his space pod. It would of been better if we could actually see more racing action. It was nice seeing Sam having fun! We should see more that that.. hehe`
The city was awesome; I didn't know they watched TV lol.

Jack the whole way through the episode was soo funny one of his funniest episodes hes ever done, he wasnt in it much but when he was i couldnt help but laugh. The race itself wasnt very exiting no but it didnt present itself on being exiting, rather about the situation that comes with the race. Though thats just my opinion.

| Unfortunately it seems as though RDA has been reduced to a comedy role. All we get from him now are one liners and sarcasm. |

| Its true thats all he does now, the show never writes him serious lines anymore like they did in the first bunch of seasons now every line they write for him is just sarcastic, even when it shouldnt be. ICON SPOILERS: Click For Spoiler |
I didn't think this was one of the better episodes, it started off slow, the ending was great though.
The acting was great but i didn't get any feelings from Sam.
Holy Episode Flop Batman!
this was not good eps....
.....
this was a fairly good episode but it remianded me to much of the voyager episode of the same name
I liked this ep. heaps i loved the commentator guys they were funny.
This ep. got
* * */5 stars
Not the best epi but I had fun with it. It's ok to have an epi like that every now and then. You know, just for the fun of it.
at first i hated it. it was so boring but now i think i can live with it. onepart i liked was how teal'cs name was murry
I didn't like this episode becuase it lacked something from some of the non-main characters-- something called acting. The guy who Cartar picked up was a very weak character and was easily persweaded into boarding their ship, and just being angry at him for no reason. It was an ok episode
i just saw this again and it is one of my favorite episodes, i like the part were Jack comes in and says to tel'c
"what have i told you, never get caught by the bad guys"
Really didnt like that episode. I think one of the reasons why stargate is so popular is because unlike other SCI-FI programs there is a serious lack of dodgy looking aliens. This episode got 2 *s i strongly believe that is because no one liked the look of those goons. Also the way on how Stargate somehow seems so possible dispite the fact that if it is possible it is unfortuneatly a long way off our current level of technology. Even the episode with the UNAS seems bad to me.
maybe im just predjudice to dodgy looking aliens. (apart from the Asgard they are sooo cool) I think the reason the asgard make episodes good is because of their te
chnology. Beaming is just everyones dream. I still think the Asgard are cool dispite their appearance because they are quite a helarious race. We see this many times in SG1 and Atlantis when something they dont like happens and they mutter along in their own language in a pissed off mood.
Ya, also not a fan. The announcers were just too cheesy and didn't Voyager have an episode pretty much JUST like this? I don't know who was first though...
