I had very high hopes for this episode, but it actually turned out to be a dissappointment for me. At least it did set up things pretty well for the second part at least...

I just found that there was little or no action or suspense. Sure, it was really funny in places, but that barely makes up for it in my opinion. I mean humour is good, but I thought the episode was just very lacking in other respect. I guess it was them trying to set up for part 2, but it could have been a lot better.

I found it interesting to see some "behind the scenes" stuff, although it was still on the show, so behind the scenes in the sense that it was stuff the characters do outside of the episodes.

The scenes with SG-13 were really odd, in the sense that we have never seen another team isolated like that and actually had them in an episode... it was kind of like they were replacing SG-1's usual role in the show. I have always wondered what the other teams get up to off-world though. What I found even stranger however is that the leader of SG-13 was a Colonel (might have been Lt. Col. I guess) and we rarely see that except in the flagship teams... mostly the leaders are Majors or maybe even Lieutenants. I guess maybe the teams aren't numbered by their importance unsure.gif

Was it just me or did the special effect of the wall falling on the probe look really really fake and badly done? I thought it looked very unrealistic sad.gif

For me, the high point in the episode was of course the humour... the interview scenes were really funny and the one with Sgt. Davis was just hilarious biggrin.gif

Overall, I guess it was okay-good, but I think my high expectations were clouding my judgement a little. I'd give it 5/10 (which might seem low, but 10/10 is the best episode on my scale and 1/10 is the worst... that makes it average).

.... oh and for those wondering, the spoiler event that has been all over the forums considering this episode didn't happen yet, but they set it up to happen. I guess we have to wait until next week...

OMG OMG OMG!!

I thought that was amazing!!
was that an ad lib when Dr Fraiser said O'Neill has had 3 knee ops (didn't RDA have 3 ops on his knee?)

I thought the answers Sam gave were a little unconvincing when she was asked about her relationship with O'Neill - a little shippiness there.

It was a little like a behind the scenes of the show and getting the cast to say what their roles are. I particularly liked the way Daniel played with them by running down the corridor to see if they'd chase him biggrin.gif
I also thought a few aspects were dissapointing for example, when the probe attacked I thought oh, no Star Wars all over again. The staff weapon testing was sooo James Bond.

Jack swearing at Kinsey!! I definately lipread/heard SOB (not shortened)

I have it recorded so I will watch again and repost whistling.gif

I thought the episode was REALLY good. Definitely very humorous which I liked. Such funny moments included:

When Teal?c wasn?t talking whilst being interviewed.

Reporter: ?Major Carter meet 6 ? billion people?
Carter: ???..hi??

Carter: ?Its hard to believe that we?ve been at it so long (1000 missions)?
O?Neill: ?There should have been a cake!?

An absolutely IMMENSE bit was when they were interviewing the Gate Technician! He told them he said ?Chevron 1 encoded, Chevron 2 encoded, incrementally up until chevron 7, then I like to shake it up a little and say Chevron 7 Locked?!!!! Then something about the SG teams knowing that someone was on the other side receiving the transmitter codes?.it gives the technicians REAL pride!! That was just one of the best bits of the show for me!!!

Storyline is very good aswell. That advanced piece of technology that attacked the team was very good. Goa?uld have to copy everything?.have to admit their malp is better than ours!! Why didn?t we think of putting shields on our MALPS??? Kinsey bit was CRAP, hate him still. Shocked that they cut off Colonel O?Neill swearing at him during the offworld activation so you couldn?t here anything!!

This shows gets a definite 9 and a half /10 for me!!! Brilliant, can?t wait for next week?s 2nd half!!! Couldn?t believe where they cut it off!! Shocking, next episode should be immense with hordes of action?.Jaffa from a ship?what else can I say?We are getting action at last!

I loved this episode, especially the subtle humour all through it. i have to say i wasnt expecting this episode to be funny due to the anticipated death of janet, but it was a pleasant surprise.

8/10

Posted by: MajorSCarter Feb 3rd 2004, 4:36 PM

I was also surprised that this was a humourous episode considering Janet dies in the two parter, however i thought it was brilliant!!
OMG i can't believe i have to wait a whole week to see the second part, i need to see it now!!
Was it just me or was everyone screaming at the TV "don't go Janet" when she was called to go to the gateroom (or wherever it was), sad.gif , i don't want her to die shes funny!! hehe "i adopted a little girl...... shes from another planet" biggrin.gif
Everyone was funny in this episode, i espeically liked Sams response to Emmett saying "Major Carter say hello to 6 billion people of the world", "........hi..." (looked terrified!!, hehe, bless her)
Overal i though this ep was brill and can't wait for next week

I loved this episode, especially the subtle humour all through it.

Subtle?

More like a sledgehammer! bangin.gif
I really enjoyed this episode although I expected more from all the hype. At the Evening With Chris said to everyone to be patient, record part 1, and watch the two together next Tuesday, "because it flows better". So I'm thinking that the second part has all the bits lacking from this episode that Aesir mentioned in his post, and that by watching the together it becomes a much more rounded episode.

I absolutely loved all the interview scenes. I know we've already seen it on the Lowdown but I've got to say Jack's 3 second interview whilst walking down the hall was so funny!
And I thought it was so funny when Daniel asked Sam how she avoided the question of the gate going public by saying, 'oh I babbled incoherently'.

Overall the episode definitely gets a thumbs up and I can't wait til next Tuesday, although I am meeting Teryl on Friday which might pad out the wait just a little cool.gif

Posted by: carlos Feb 3rd 2004, 4:43 PM

sorry, i meant subtle in the sense that it wasnt slapstick.

Posted by: anastasia_beaverhausen Feb 3rd 2004, 4:46 PM

I really loved this episode! I liked it for two main reasons:
1- lots of humour
2- it was something different

The interview with Teal'c was hilarious! His face when he just sat their had me cracking up in fits. And when Daniel set off running when his beeper went and the guy asked him why they were running - "I just wanted to see if you would chase me" laugh.gif

This episode also cleared up one of the many mysteries that has bugged me for ages. Finally we find out why Chevron Guy says "Chevron 7, locked". I always wondered about that...

I was a little confused for the first half of the ep as to how they could possibly steer it towards the terrible fate of a dearly beloved certain somebody crying.gif But it all clicked with me towards the end and I've figured out almost exactly what's going to happen in the second parter. All I can say is, if it happens the way I think it's going to, it's going to be rather sad sad.gif

So, loved this ep. One of, if not the favourite so far 8.75 out of 10 (I rarely give out 9's, has to be really special for that!)

good soild episode gets a rating of **1/2

im looking forward to next weeks. good way to show off some humour

+humour mostly
-star wars again, The probot from episode 5

but nothing really happened

i hope in the dvd version they make it into one long episode, its not really cliffhanger worthy.

Posted by: jaffagod Feb 3rd 2004, 4:56 PM

I had been looking forward to this for a few weeks and it didn't disappoint me. This was, in my opinion, a fantastic episode. I loved the humour after all the weeks of serious plot and character development, it was good to see an episode where it wasnt the same idea; a character could die, although there is a return to this next week. This isn't to say it wasn't informative in a way but I liked it because it wasn't so fact heavy, and I do have a penchant for cliffhangers. whistling.gif

Some things were left hanging though. I want to know what Goa'uld sent that probe? It cant have been Anubis for two reasons; 1. The probe had detailed images of the ruins which were Ancient. If it had been Anubis he would have sent people to the site to investigate immediately. 2. When SG-13 was attacked they reported seeing Jaffa, had it been Anubis he would have sent a Drone. They must clear this up in Part 2 because , in my opinion, they can't leave it. It would drive me crazy.

I also found it rather surprising that Dr. Frasier didn't know what an "unscheduled off-world activation" was. She has been there six years and she doesn't know what it means. It was also nice to see her get a nice long speech before.......... whistling.gif

+ Sam, Teal'c and Daniel's interviews. PRICELESS!
+ Jack: I hope the shots of my ass serve you well. LOL
+ The leader of SG-13's (can't remember his name) "talk" about kids. LOL!

The best part for me had to be the interview with Sgt. Davis. "I like to mix it up a bit so I say Chevron 7...locked,...oh and I am also responsible for the Iris opening and closing." That is quite possibly the funniest thing ever to have been in Stargate. It was hilarious. Especially the way that the other technicians look round in amusement when he says that he is quite proud that the teams prefer to have him instead of an automated system. I have never laughed so hard! laugh.gif

There is really nothing bad that I can think of right now. Maybe later.

This episode was the best of the season, period. It had the humour, the wit, and even some info. Did I menion the humour? It was amazing.
Thats why it gets 9.5/10. If Part 2 is half as good, I will be very happy.

Posted by: Commander-Thor Feb 3rd 2004, 5:03 PM

I still can't believe that they're killing off Janet!!! crying.gif

After seeing the episode one thing comes to mind - there was Siler trying out that new armour which resisted staff blasts - and the only way she can die is by being shot by a staff! I guess the armour may only be in the experimental stage but still - shes only a doctor - you would have thought they would have given her protection.

Still, very funny episode in my opinion - especially the look on the technicians face who was standing behind Sergeant Davis while he was going on about "the human face behind the iris codes"

I think the moment between Jack and Kinsey should be recorded for posterity - at last someone told him what we ALL feel towards him!!! Give Jack a medal - give him two - give him five

Posted by: Child of the gods Feb 3rd 2004, 5:12 PM

for me one of the funnier parts was where norman walter davis was talking about how all he does is say 'chevron 1 encoded', and so on. The humour behind that was that in his interview( i have forgotten how to spell the right word), he say the lines he had to read, ' chevron 1 encoded'(and so on) and he thought that it would sound boring, so he tried to make it more interesting. And I quote,

QUOTE
it was like reading a grocery list. as an actor, you're told to go into an audition ( ah remembered now smile.gif)with something. Something to make your reading interesting and memorable. what the hell do you do when you are simply encodind seven chevrons? and plus, what the hell's a chevron?
i just did what i had been trained to do. i made it funny. i started off normaly but by the time i got to the seventh chveron, i was doing jerry lewis, yelling 'Hey, LADY!!!!'. Brad wright and michael greenburg(executive producers) were banging the table laughing.

OK, enough quote for on hidden joke, but you get the idea, i hope smile.gif

On the whole, i liked the episode, but it lacked enough action, i supose thats why they had sg-13 shoot the flying saucer....

Posted by: JC1 Feb 3rd 2004, 5:17 PM

This episode wasn't really what I expected. It was certainly very funny in places but I thought there would be more action or tension or something. Hopefully, there'll be a lot more action and tension next week.

Wasn't the Colonel escorting the film crew the same guy as the ATF agent from "Seth"?

Posted by: Majikthize Feb 3rd 2004, 5:38 PM

Ah how many ways did I love this episode!

Proof again that nobody can send up Stargate with quite the same amount of class as Stargate does itself. I think this was just a great little self parody-cum love letter to the fans.

So many little in-jokes to spot. I think I could watch it a dozen times and still spot something new. My favourites were Chevron Guy and his little interview (I just kept thinking about that scene in Spinal Tap where it goes up to eleven and there's not real explanation for it), and Sam's "It's hard to believe we've been at it so long" to Jack (Now there's a double entendre if ever I saw one biggrin.gif )

Everyone absolutely shone here and yet again you could see how much fun they had making this. I particularly loved Teal'c's interview and Carter's second interview which was, if you want, a nice little dig at all those shippers out there. Heh! Nicely done. I also liked the suggestion of shots of Jack's ass. I for one won't be objecting (I reckon they've been reading the Guys Of Stargate thread myself).

The colonels speech about kids. I'm sure I've heard that somewhere before. Can't quite place it but it was very familiar. Also the droid thing was just so Star Wars ep 5 that it had to be deliberate. I did like SG13 though. I liked the little bet they had and the "Dr Jackson's gonna die when he sees this...again" comment.

If I had to pick something I didn't like about this epsiode it's that it didn't end with much of a cliffhanger that makes me on the edge of my seat waiting for next week. Really I've never thought Stargate does two parters all that well actually and this really isn't much of an exception. I think it would definitely play out a lot better if it had been shown as one continious ninty minute episode...of course I'm making assumptions about what will happen next week but I have a feeling it's going to be totally different in tone. It's going to be bit of a rollercoaster ride.

i got the impression she was pretending she didn't know what it was.

I thought that was a great episode, can't wait for never week, i get the impression that gona be a pretty heavy one so thought it was good the way they start it off light hearted. So many good bits, i was in fits of laughter in Teal'cs interview and the chevron guys one, his personality is so like i imagined it in my fics lol. Daniel was very cute in front of the camera and Carter getting nervous awww. Loved watching Carter digging herself a hole in the 2nd interview lol.

So will Jack finally give his interview next week?

i thought it shouldn't really be a 2 parter just coz it ended randomly but at the same time i can see why it needs to be one. Mayb they shud have just stopped it sum where else.

Carters quote bout the gate smoking was v funny, and yeh i thought the 'It's hard to believe we've been at it so long" was a bit of a double entendre too but maybe thats just my overly shippy mind. Anyway role on next week!!

Hi all

All in all this was a great episode. It was refreshing and very funny. smile.gif
When I wasn't smiling I was laughing, and when not smiling laughing.

So Anubus went into a parallel universe and stole an Empire drone, hmmm.
There is not much else to say about it accept for part should be good!

It was nice to see an appearance from Mr X-Files super soldier (what's his name?).

I loved this ep!!! laugh.gif
The humour is just oozing out of every pore....From the interviews to the SG13 team (which I liked: finally get to centre a bit on another team, and they all seemed to be more "human" than previous SG teams (who were only shells)), to Kinsey and Jack.....Great great ep!
I was expecting this to be a really boring ep. IT really surprised me.
Hopefully Season 7 will continue this trend! This was really great.

Posted by: Varun Feb 4th 2004, 2:51 AM

Another good episode and I think the second part will have all the big bangs in store for us. I thought the episode started out slowly before the theme and everything. But the interviews were brilliant and Teal'c staring at them looked like his face was photoshopped or something.

On the negative side, I really hated the probe. It looked way too star wars for my liking. And I cant believe they dont think of examining the probe first instead of sending out an aerial survey which Daniel blamed himself for.

On a sentimental note, I just wanted to cry when they showed Fraser at the end. Looks like they gave her most of the airtime towards the ending which was good considering they will loose her. She looked too cute to me - especially this episode crying.gif

Bottomline - 7/10. And I sure hope they dont have much of the reporter next time. Its not stargate smile.gif

PS: Anyone notice how the MP5 sounded like a P-90?? (I payed attention only cause someone already mentioned it)

Posted by: cjp_24 Feb 4th 2004, 3:04 AM

Well. I have taped it but im going to have strong will power and not watch it, tape next weeks and watch both together.

I always watch part one's and when you get the 'To be continued' I tend to vegitate for the rest of the week. Who thinks I shall be able to resist?

WoW!!!
I couldn't stop laughing throughout this episode laugh.gif The reporter guy was a great actor in my opinion the way he went around doing his job espescially when interviewing Teal'c biggrin.gif . I thought the best part was with the cheveron guy who was explaining his job and he was saying how he says cheveron one incoded cheveron two encoded etc. then the bit that cracked me up was when he said and at the end i really like to spice things up a bit by saying cheveron seven..............locked lmao tongue.gif I like the whole idea of the ancients building that city that the SG team came accross and they were all taking bets on what was going to be on the planet. I was surprised how long they actually get the camera on this team because it was quite a while with that Colonel guys speech on kids. I'm glad that we saw Janet again and next episodes going to be pretty sweet. Great ep, my rating 9.6/10.

PS: Also thought the Goa'uld "MALP" was a cool idea and the way the Colonel took it out was pretty nifty.

Ok, she was bluffing, that makes sense. But how thick is the reporter!!!

"Unscheduled offworld activation" is pretty self-explanatory once you know the Stargate's there. That was a pretty major flaw. Besides that it was a reasonably good ep, nothing spectacular though.

Posted by: jayUK Feb 4th 2004, 6:58 AM

Hmmm..... I have a question: blink.gif

Why does the UK get new SG1 episodes before the US? not that i'm complaining, LOL whistling.gif

Posted by: Albion Feb 4th 2004, 7:02 AM

Well, I was a bit dubious about this one while watching it first time, but I had the feeling that would change once I got past the usual 'it's flatter than the hype made it seem' syndrome which has afflicted me generally throughout this season. I seem to be disappointed because I've hyped myself up for something spectacular and then on a second and third viewing I really enjoy it.

Referencing the fact that it was funny, which surprised some posters - I figure it was deliberately set up that way so that the darker second part has more impact. A deliberate contrast. As Jack would say, "It's all fun till someone breaks a nail." <G>

I did enjoy the humour in this one - most of my favourite moments have already been tagged by other posters. I was literally crying with laughter at some points - during Jack's rant at Kinsey for one. LOL. I thought even funnier than the actual rant was his, "Are you going to get this?" and "I was done." ROTFL. And I don't think you needed to try too hard on that lipreading someone mentioned earlier. <G>

Loved Daniel's "Just wanted to see if you would chase me." But he really cracked me up when he covered his face and looked away from the camera right after that line, so they wouldn't see him laughing. And just the way that Teal'c says, "No" when the interviewer asks if Hammond didn't also tell him that answering questions was part of an interview had me ROTFLing. And poor Silar in the infirmary getting patched up.

The little in-jokes and references scattered around were fun. Walter's chevron interview - a classic. The 'who'd have thought we'd still be doing this'. Janet's interview cataloguing Jack's many injuries and 'Oh, that's the Hathor incident, which he told me never to mention". laugh.gif Sam's look when Daniel complains the interviewer said his archive footage was boring.

I did think that it was cut at a very peculiar point for a two parter - that did seem a little flat. I kind of went, "Oh - is that it?". But, as others have said already, I think that this really seems to need to be seen in the context of part two, as a complete entity with both parts, rather than an episode on its own. It was, in part, very much less an episode per se than it was a setting up of part two. And I may have been influenced there anyway by spoilers because I was kind of expecting that 'to be continued' would come up over that shot we've all seen of Jack lying unconscious on the ground while some kind of firefight goes on in the background. So, in contrast, the real ending did seem a little low key. <g>

I also liked the little quiet moment between Janet and the interviewer in the canteen and Hammond running interference. And they mentioned Cassie, so I presume that they won't forget her when Janet dies. That was something that had been bothering me.

All in all - already a favourite episode. Not as much fun as WoO or Urgo because the humour and fun is tainted by the knowledge that things are going to turn much darker in part two, but still a very, very funny episode that I'm going to watch a lot, I think. And I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for Tuesday.

I don't think Dr. Fraiser was lying or pretending when she said she didn't know what an unscheduled off-world activation is. Unscheduled activations can occur for a number of reasons.
For example: - an SG team returning earlier than expected due to injuries or whatever.
- aliens coming through the gate (asgard, nox, whatever)
-gould attack or smth.

I think she meant that she didin't know the reason behind the activation and therefore the interviewrs' guess was as good as hers.

Now on a different note... I liked the humorous tone of this episode. The downside for me was the interviewer guy. I think too much time was devoted to his problems and struggles. At the end, it seems like he got the most airtime of all the characters, and I don't care a fig about him. I hope less attention will be devoted to him in part two.

What's with O'Neill and Mary Steenburgen? Does one of the writers have a fetish about her, or is it somehow RDA's idea?

Posted by: Dafmeister Feb 4th 2004, 1:16 PM

Liked this ep. I was expecting a bit more action, but im hoping that it has been saved till part 2.

Which part did Adam Baldwin actually play? Unless he looks totally different to how i remember him, i dont remember seeing him.

A few people have said that Janet Fraiser wouldnt know what an 'unscheduled off world activiation' is. What???. Shes the chief medical officer of the SGC for gods sake. i think that she'll know what it means - considering that virtually everytime one has occured she has either been called to the gate room to deal with the injuries or has had injured SG teams sent to the infirmary.

Posted by: ccl28 Feb 4th 2004, 1:25 PM

Ill, people actually liked this episode. This episode makes "Life Goes On" seem exciting. I understand that they're not actually allowed to change the SG1 universe because they already started working on the movie script, but does it have to be so obvious. Every episode this season just seems like they're stalling until the end of the series.

Warning:
This episode is filled with 'geek humor'. If you're going to watch it make sure that you're alone or may receive a severe beating from your friends. It's really only stuff that an avid SG1 fan would get.

Posted by: Albion Feb 4th 2004, 1:52 PM

Adam Baldwin was the CO of SG13. It was nice seeing him again - especially as I'd spent the past two days catching up with Firefly on DVD.

And that reminds me of a funny moment I meant to mention but forgot in my earlier post which had me LOLing - whatsisname being disqualified for being a smartass for betting on trees. w00t.gif

I think I'd have to disagree that you have to be an avid Stargate fan to appreciate the humour in this episode - I think all you need is a sense of humour. <g> It wasn't entirely composed of in jokes and even a lot of the in jokes could be widely appreciated. Most of it was pretty self-explanatory.

Regarding the time spent on SG13 and how it could have been SG1 - I thought that myself as I was watching, especially as they'd made the archaeologist of SG13 so like Daniel. But of course there's a very good reason why those scenes couldn't be focused on SG1 - which will become clear in part two, of course, if the spoilers turn out to be true.

This episode kicks ass, very funny stuff laugh.gif 10/10!

Posted by: Felger Feb 4th 2004, 2:49 PM

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, many of the humorous scenes have been mentioned but i still have to say that the best scene was Davis' child like job. Open the Iris.... Close the iris lol.

I think another funny bit for me was when the SG-13 archaeologist came running back shouting "incoming?. I could almost read his thoughts! rotflmao_1.gif

Oh and i actually hate myself for this but i felt sorry for Kinsey. He look so hurt after Jack had...well told him his opinion. Then i realised how evil he is and started laughing greatly.

However, even though i did find this entire episode extremely funny my laughing was overshadowed by the knowledge of what will happen in the next episode. I think i am going to have to salute the TV and have tissues on standby. I just think "It" will be quick as that usually has the most impact, no speeches from the person in question.

Anyway except that i think this episode deserves 9/10 because of its sheer humour and brilliance!!!!!

Posted by: SG1nut Feb 4th 2004, 3:16 PM

This has got to be one of my favourite episodes of all time... I'm shocked that it should be in season 7. huh.gif

Seriously though- I can't praise this ep enough. Very funny. Loads of team interaction. Loads of interaction from everyone else in the SGC. We saw Chevron guy speak for once, Sgt Siler getting shot by a staff weapon (don't worry- he had amazing plastic armor on), this new and frankly hilarious Colonel (played by Adam Baldwin- he was great!) And of course our beloved Doc Fraiser- she's so pretty- why the hell do they wanna get rid of her?(Damn storyline.)
And she seemed to like Emmet as well- he was the star of the show by the way- very amusing/charming- such a great actor! (I remembered liking him in Fraser as well- as Daphne's fiance.)

On a private note- I don't know about the ladies out there- but Rick Anderson was somehow amazing in this ep. I don't know why- but he did certain things in this ep that made me remember what it's like to be attracted to the wonderful character of Col. Jack O'Neill.
1. The quote about "having to film his ass" as he ran away from the news crew...Enough said I think. wink.gif
2. When he said, "I think Tibet should be free"
3. The way he ignored and swore at Kinsey as the alarms went off... That swarmy self-righteous *bleep*! laugh.gif

Anyway- to conclude on my opinion- loved every second of it. Though my heart sank in the way that it ended. Poor Doc Fraiser- had she stayed behind in the cafeteria and not gone to this ancient planet??? She may have married Emmet and lived happily ever after...How sad.
10 out of 10.

ps:- Oh! And the team- esp Daniel was tip-top. Loved the way Sam patronised Teal'c and Daniel- they really are like a family in this ep- love love loved it people- thankyou writers/everyone else for entertaining me on a normal Wednesday afternoon.

Warning:
This episode is filled with 'geek humor'. If you're going to watch it make sure that you're alone or may receive a severe beating from your friends. It's really only stuff that an avid SG1 fan would get.

Shol'va! Leave our site! And take your "friends" with you. Hmph!

Adam Baldwin was the CO of SG13.

Really? I liked him. Along with that other guy....and the other one. I really liked SG13 smile.gif

Most of it was pretty self-explanatory.

Yeah, it really doesn't take much to appreciate the humor here wink.gif

You know....I haven't read ANY spoilers for Heroes 2 (except the...well....big one), so I suppose that's impacted my view of it. I'm more inclined to like it because I'm not really expecting much action or anything for the first one.

This is kind of like wormhole x-treme in that I'm sure the cast had a ton of fun making it, but also because the auidence can have fun with them. It's not a very serious ep, and I love those!
Wow....This is a great ep. Great great great. In fact, I'm willing to say it's one of the top eps EVER in Stargate. I love it!!! biggrin.gif

QUOTE
Seriously though- I can't praise this ep enough.

This is my sentiments exactly!!!!!
Most eps in Season 7 are good...but not great. I'll watch a few of them again (Fallout) but otherwise...eh.
But this one...Right after I saw it, I had to see it again! And again!
Definitely the standout of season 7!!!!

Posted by: The Doctor Feb 4th 2004, 3:52 PM

Good for the most part. Funny, but more action needed.

Main points:

The probe (another Star Wars rip off)

The betting-funny

Teal'cs interview

Stupidity of not guessing 'Offworld activation'

Can guess part 2- Daniel decides to take a pic of the action, Janet gets killed a result. Journalist realises what he's done (he DOES fancy her) and gives up as a result.

Overall 7/10

Posted by: Albion Feb 4th 2004, 4:07 PM

I can't believe I've already posted on this a few times and never managed to mention my only real problem with it.

I still don't understand why Frasier was taken offworld with SG1. I mean it doesn't make much sense does it? Why put your medic right smack in the middle of a firefight and risk getting them killed, when they can stay nice and safe back at the SGC and you can bring the wounded to them, where they have all the equipment to deal with them?

That's been the method used for six seasons - what the heck is different about this situation that makes it imperative Frasier goes traipsing out into the woods instead?

I didn't see anything that justified it. Anyone?

Albion smile.gif

Posted by: Mike Feb 4th 2004, 4:20 PM

My feelings are kinda mixed in this episode. It was nice to see Fraiser get some humor time and I like how the whole team tried to elude the issue as much as they could. laugh.gif

For me this was not a repeat watch episode. Just one of those that you say you watched it just to keep up to date on the plotline.

Posted by: Majikthize Feb 4th 2004, 4:20 PM

I can answer that. If you watch you'll see that it's mentioned that one of SG13 has been hit and that they're pinned down by the enemy. Apprently this means that they need urgent medical attention and that they can't get out so the medic has to go to them.

Notice how it's the bloke who's wife is expecting a sprog who went down too? What a terribly obvious cliche. It could only have been done tongue in cheek and deliberately.

Cirus: How many ways do I hate you now. Oh let me count the ways... wink.gif

Yes, but they never have before. We've had similiar situations in the past, but no one's sent a medic out to them. No one sent a medic out to Jack and Tyler in The Fifth man for example. Heck, Hammond wouldn't even let a rescue misson go out to them, let alone anyone else.

Urgent medical attention or not, it seems insane and nonsensical to send a medic out into the frontlines in such circumstances. The chances are that all that will happen is they end up being shot before they even get to tending to the wounded.

Course, I know zip about the air force and how it operates. Anyone who does know if this kind of thing would happen?

Albion smile.gif

Posted by: SlavsyaRossiya Feb 4th 2004, 4:53 PM

Umm...Haven't battlefield medics been quite common?

Posted by: Albion Feb 4th 2004, 5:00 PM

Yes - however, SGC have never used them, as far as I recall. This is my point. Unless someone can recall an episode where Janet acted as one?

But right now, far as I remember, it's never been SGC operational procedure that Janet goes offworld to deal with wounded. They always come to her. So, I'm wondering what's different now about this situation to change that.

Albion smile.gif

Posted by: mike5842 Feb 4th 2004, 5:41 PM

A good epsiode, but i wont be watching it again. In my view they've strayed way off what made a show a hit in the first place. The really good episodes of earlier seasons could be watched time and time again. This doesnt fit into taht catagory and most of season seven is the same.

I only hope the rest of the season gets back to basics.

Jus my opinon

Mike

Posted by: SlavsyaRossiya Feb 4th 2004, 7:39 PM

I disagree. This has many of the elements of earlier eps:

-A team (I admit it's not SG1, but still a great team) goes through the gate to an alien world.
-SG1 interacts with each other!
-Humour!
-The goa'uld are involved in some way.

While it was more balanced towards the humor, we haven't seen too much of 1 or 2 in Season 7.
We've mainly gone to allied worlds or worlds we already know.
And now SG1 is going to go battle on a world they don't know of.
I love it biggrin.gif

Edit: In fact, if Heroes 2 goes the way I think it will, then I believe it will signal the writers "getting their act together". In fact, is'nt some new person writing now?

Posted by: Commander-Thor Feb 4th 2004, 8:05 PM

I remember one occasion where Janet went offworld. During 'One Flase Step' in series 2, she goes to the planet to determine what has happened to the aliens. I particualarly remember the line as she came through the gate - "Now this is a housecall"

Admittedly, she wasn't dealing with wounded SGC personel, and they weren't in the line of fire, but she still did go offworld.

ps. It was nice to see the journalist guy in a funny-ish, nice role - since the last time I saw him was in Star Trek - where he wasn't the friendliest of folks

*teryl_brat42 clears her throat*

Oh My Gosh! I LOVED this ep! All together now, "Yay! Janet smiles and laughs and is happy and drinks and eats and, and, awwwwww!" Yes, nothing quite like a last meal of fruit and what was that, coffee? Well, that's my vote.

Ok, the best part was the flirting comment. Wow, she's so cute! And at the end, wasn't everyone just screaming NOOOOOO!!!!! when the guy came and told her that she was needed in the ready room? Jezze, I was just about in tears then. crying.gif It was excruciating, and I'm dreading next week. But, to live in the present and not the future is my goal for the rest of the week. Janet is currently alive and well and safe on Earth (I know, it's called denial). *teryl_brat42 sings "...please, don't take the girl..."* I think I actually did burst into song when they said get sg's 1, 5, 11, whatever, and Doctor Fraiser geared up to go. I guess you'd have to ask Cali about that, it's all a blur for me.

Wasn't Janet a little more, um, ditzy is not quite right, but it'll have to do for now. It actually seemed as though Teryl's personality showed through a little when Janet was not in Doctor Mode. At first I was thinking that maybe the highlights in her hair were finally getting to her, but then it dawned on me that she wouldn't be in Doctor Mode all the time and I just revelled in the moment. I took great joy in seeing her outspokenness. I always knew she was a groovy chick. First the flirting comment, then strait to asking about the ring, then the Cassie part 'she's from another planet' without batting an eye.
w00t.gif W000000000000T!!!!!!!!!!!! w00t.gif

EDIT: As for Janet going offworld, this will be her 9th trip (if you count Fail Safe even though we didn't see her off world). Singularity, One False Step, Forever in a Day, Past and Present, 2010, Fail Safe, Allegiance, Lifeboat, and of course, Heroes. Ok, if I missed one, I should be shot!

If I don't stop now, I never will. So, I'll see y'all again after the sh*t hits the fan.

This episode was not what I expected.
But none of them are because I don't read spoilers. I actually like to be surprised. Which is the reason I am really mad that some of you gave away that Janet dies.
The following people broke the spoiler rule:
carlos
MajorSCarter
Commander-Thor?
Albion
The Doctor
I now feel free to break another rule:
You are all a$$holes

Besides that, I though the ep was above average. The humor made up for the lack of action, but just barely. It took me 20 sec to figure out it was going to be a weird ep, and just another 10 to guess that it was the 150th ep, but it turns out that is not 'til next week.
6/10

I liked this episode. I'm thinking that this episode was the calm before the storm. Kinda off topic but wasn't Adam Baldwin trying to get a spot on Stargate Atlantis? I thought he played his part brilliantly in this episode!

Posted by: godlike Feb 5th 2004, 3:44 AM

this ep is funny but boring, good dialogs but directoring and cutting sucks. it was so slow. to much boring vacuum stuff. hope next part will be much better with picardo.

Posted by: Doomgoggles Feb 5th 2004, 4:30 AM

This episode was surprisingly good, considering how freaking annoying the TV guy was. It was nice to see Janet being adorable. wub.gif but she shouldn't have indulged the TV guy by letting him eat with her. :\

One thing that REALLY bothered me: Are they getting lazy?? They used the P90 sound for the MP5!!!!!!!!! WHY????? They did this for the AK-47's in Ev. Pt. 2 and it really pissed me off! they used to use real MP5 sounds....what's going on?

Posted by: eliminator Feb 5th 2004, 12:09 PM

I know it was really funny, and i want to know what jack was saying to kinsey just as the off world activation siren went-off, i really want to know whether they actually swore (if someone can read lips) or made it up until the scene ended. But it wasn't fully living up to all the hype it got, but if they had shown both parts together then it might have been well worth th wait for the second part.

Posted by: SlavsyaRossiya Feb 5th 2004, 3:16 PM

So did I....It would be nice to see him again!
And ThreeFriesShortofahappymealwacko....could you, in the future, not post spoilers in episode-specific threads again unless they relate to the episode in question?

Thanks.

I think the episode wasn't so interesting as the latest's (Chimera , Fallout)
Hey did someone noticed, that Anubis drone was like as Starwars imperial drone ?
Imho, where the main line of story, where is the force's with Anubis super soldier's ?
And where the russian team, they are working in SGC too. So the repoter must to had interested for taking one or two interview with russian's.
Heh, hopely the second part will be more better, because is bohring to see only sam-episode, or tealc-episode &=)

Posted by: Kromando33 Feb 6th 2004, 3:18 AM

yer i didn't mind this episode, it was very funny but slow moving & got a bit boring but it seems like part 2 is going to change the mood quickly & get very serious when the sg teams go in to rescue, can't wait 4 it.
BTW i loved that bit with the airman in the control room talking about what he does very funny.

Posted by: French Carter Feb 6th 2004, 8:27 AM

I like this one, much better than Chimera or DK. Why ? Because, for the first time in this seventh season, we have a "real" STG, with a really good story. Actors play so well and it is the best humorous episode of this season (especialy the interview of Teal'C biggrin.gif ). If you don't know the spoiler, you can not imagine what will happen in the second part, it is just well done.
I give a 9/10 and I am very impatient to see the next part !

Posted by: Albion Feb 6th 2004, 9:13 AM

Well, Andy4an, I'll overlook your extreme rudeness on the grounds that you're annoyed. And, yes, you're right. I apologise for the spoiler. I guess this one slipped through because it never occurred to me there could be a fan left on the planet who didn't know this fact by this point and because I've been tending to think of these two as one episode for so long it got to be a habit.

But it was a spoiler for all that and I regret accidentally spoiling the episode for you. Spoiling someone's fun with the show is never something I'd do deliberately. Quite simply, I didn't think and I should have taken more care to before posting.

Good to see Jack O'Neill on true form, something we haven't seen much of recently. Don't want to repeat the obvious great moments that have been mentioned already regarding this episode, however I must add:

As the reporter went to shake Jack's hand (going into the lift), Jack coughs into his own hand before offering it to Emmet - Class! sick.gif

Carter's comment regarding the stargate spinning "It's really cool, steam comes off it and everything" (need visual of her saying it really for ha ha factor!) jester.gif

Posted by: Xantara Feb 6th 2004, 12:01 PM

I enjoyed this episode, but it wasn't the best. I found it a little slow, and the scenes with SG-13 seemed out of place until the end. I did like the humor of the episode though. I especially liked when Daniel got paged and starting running to see if the crew would chase him. laugh.gif As much as I am a shipper, I thought the references to Jack/Sam were a little blunt. I think they were trying to force too much out of this episode, but it was still entertaining.

Posted by: ChewManFuu Feb 6th 2004, 4:46 PM

I just received my copy of it and watched it.
Funny and kinda non-action ep.

I like how they are setting up for Atlantis. Its been rumored on FilmJerk.com that Adam Baldwin will be one of the front people for Atlantis. And this ep had lots of Ancient runes all over the place.
I can't wait till the next one.

Cheers

Mmmm lightly toasted, slightly salty yet-oh-so-sweet.. oh wait.. wrong review.. biggrin.gif

Yup.. I liked this ep a lot.. at first, I was a bit disappointed.. 'cuz i figured there'd be guns 'n fighting 'n people dying 'n staff weapon blasts 'n people dying 'n stuff.. but i guess that's next week blink.gif

Love the subtle humor.. and the not-so-subtle humor (read: Jack's humor). I ummm did happen to lip-read a bit of what Jack said to the senator.. Oh my! not sure I can post it but ummmm.. it goes something like this...

Jack: you smarmy self-righteous (sirens blare) a**hole (sirens blaring) limp-d*cked (sirens blaring.. cut to camera crew...some mumbling overheard... cut back to Jack & Kinsey.. sirens blaring) sonuvab*tch...
Kinsey: Duty calls
Jack: Ok.. i was done..

LOL and I love the many "Jack in the elevator" scenes where he's trying to avoid the reporters.. and the on-going "memo" gag that's been around since.. what.. season one?

And yes Jack.. shots of your ass will serve me very well... w00t.gif

Posted by: mithwriter Feb 7th 2004, 1:44 PM

It was an okay ep, but I'm hoping part 2 will be a better balance to part 1. My favorite SGC stuff was probably Frasier talking about O'Neill's medical history. I think my main problem was the guy (character, not actor) doing interviews, especially with Daniel's sit-down interview. That one stuck out as a blown opportunity.

I hate to say it, but for me, SG13 stole the show on this one. I loved the blue-collar, everyday guy on the job aspect of them, and it actually answered a question I've had in the back of my mind.

What kind of unit would sign up for an SG team number usually associated with bad luck? Yep, this one. cool.gif The scene at the base of the gate was hysterical.

Col: I don't see any indication of anything here.
Balinski:Take the usual bet on that sir?
Col: Sure. Wells?
Wells:Abandoned Naquada mine.
Col: Boring. Good Odds. Bosworth?
Bosworth: I'm going to put my money on trees, sir.
Col: Bosworth's disqualified for being a smart ass. laugh.gif I'm going to go with 2 headed aliens.
Wells: Hostile or friendly, sir.
Col: One head good, one head bad. Balinski?
Balinski: Ruins of an ancient city.
Col: Yeah, you wish.

I thought this episode was very funny and there was some good humour to it, the best was the teal'c interview.
BUT....this was one of the worst episodes ive ever seen!!! I like humour in episodes i think its great but there was nothing compelling about it, nothing to keep you watching and i didnt like it that much. It got boring before the credits had shown and i expected there to be lots of action to it. Even though i thought it was funny, i thought it was was crap (in comparison to normal episodes that is). I think if i watch it again though i will like it more especially if i watch it with part 2 (when the dvd comes out at about very late may) But a bad episode and i will give it 2/10.

Posted by: Albion Feb 8th 2004, 9:26 AM

I do agree with recent posters - this was more a setup for part two than an episode in its own right and that's a tad lazy from TPTB and a bit of a swizz really. So definitely bad marks all round there.

But I think viewed as a two hour epic, with both parts together, each episode will balance out nicely, with part one being the 'calm before the storm' kind of thing. So I am looking forward to be able to do that.

Hmmm..... I have a question: blink.gif

Why does the UK get new SG1 episodes before the US? not that i'm complaining, LOL whistling.gif

Because, while the US starts airing SG-1 before the UK, they have such a stupidly long break over Christmas, the UK catches up and then overtakes in the new year.

Plus the US networks seem to delight in taking random breaks of anywhere up to a month between airing episodes of shows, which adds to how far behind they fall.

Plus the US networks seem to delight in taking random breaks of anywhere up to a month between airing episodes of shows, which adds to how far behind they fall.

There are two reasons for the break in new eps.
1. TV production goes on winter hiatus in December through the beginning of January, so there's no new eps to show.
2. The Neilson's determine TV advertisement rates for networks during 'sweeps' which I think are in November and February...or it could be March. The bottom line is, networks are not going to put new eps on the air if they don't think they don't have the maximum number of viewers watching. It affects the amount of money they can charge advertisers during their programming.

Just thought of something else about Heroes. I just realized why this sucker is a two parter. I think its an effort to show that there are two sides to the people in the SGC, those being the 'hanging around the SGC' side, and the 'down to business once they step through the gate'...er...side. Also, I've got some suspicions about the footage these guys are getting.

If you'll notice, all the info this guy getting on O'Neill is from other people because he won't co-operate, yet whats emerging is actually a very positive profile of him if you think about what each person (Teal'c, Carter, Fraiser) have said about him. Even his confrontation with Kinsey makes him look good, even though he's probably not thinking about it at the time. I just have this feeling about how this footage is going to be edited, and if the viewers (us) are going to see any of it, especially with what happens in part two.

Well Albion, there seem to be at least two fans out there who didn't know and are truly pissed of getting their episodes spoiled. I don't want any apology or your "regrett", that isn't going to undo any damage, I want you and everyone else who spray this kind of sh_t on the boards to use *SPOILER WARNING*. 'Cause I don't wanna know anything about the episode I see, as andy4u says, I like to be surprised.

And to the episode, it was very funny to watch. Anything that puts perspective on the standard ways of thing will give stargate more depth and less cardboard characters.

Posted by: teryl_brat42 Feb 8th 2004, 8:54 PM

I really hate to sumble into the whole MUST HAVE SPOILER WARNING conversation, but it is a two-parter, thus one part blends into the other and if you read about half of the episode, it's bound to be nothing but OBVIOUS that you will see stuff about the 2nd. I'm not looking to get into a fight over this. Those who accidentally found out that . . . have said "Hey, we're pissed that you didn't use warnings!" and the guilty parties have said "Whoops, my mistake" so let's all just get back to discussing the ep here so the Moderators don't go off and turn this into a knock down, drag out 'Owned' or 'Assclown' session. This is one of the most important episodes in Stargate history so lets treat it as such.

Now, maybe it would be a good idea for the the Mods to go in and delete the sections of the posts where there is referance to. . . so that others in the future won't see that . . . is indeed going to happen.

Posted by: kitsune Feb 8th 2004, 10:29 PM

Firstly, I must add one thing to teryl_brat's post:
I think it is a little immature to reiterate a point that everyone knows, and have been made aware of, especially to the one person of the 5 that had the guts to apologize.

Secondly:
Call me andy, or andy4an, this is the 3rd time in about 2 weeks that it has been messed up

Back on topic:
I can't believe Kinsey is running for president. It was so painful to watch him pretend to be supportive of a plan that he will do everything to cancel once he can. Who invited him? Also, are AF officers allowed to voice opinions about politics?

Yes, they were very cool....I actually hope they survive unsure.gif ...its amazing what good writing/acting can do to bring new characters to life in a short period of time. I think Adam Baldwin (Col. Dixon) was the one who wanted to join Atlantis, and man I could SO see him in that show....actually I liked all of them...

I thought the episode was great and if it was out there for fishing on reactions of us watching different SG teams instead of SG1 all the time they did well. May I also say the casting worked very well (a recovery from Jonas..I couldn't stand Jonas). The new SG team just felt right no reaction......who's this why are they not SG1 and I think by now we know and accept there are more than 1 team. The show is really growing Season 6 I was not thrilled with 7 just keeps getting better.

Season 6 = 0,0 - 10,-20

Season 7 = 0,0 - 5,7 - 8,15

Now plot that....Odin will be screwed w00t.gif

i've really begun to enjoy this latter half of the season. I must admit that I wasn't expecting the episode to be quite as light-hearted as it was, though this is not a complaint. It was good to have a lighter episode though it did feel in places like they were trying a little too hard to recapture the esscence of the WoO comedy.

That said, I am looking forward to tonights part and how they will change the tempo of the story and deal with the departure of Janet.

I tend not to like episodes like Wormhole Xtreme and Prometheus because they're so corny but after I gave this one a chance, I did like some parts of it.

QUOTE

Well, I knew she was leaving the show, but I hoped they wouldn't kill her off. I think Teryl Rothery does an amazing job playing her character. I really like her. And Sam needs to have at least one female buddy. I'm glad for the spoilers though. I have a week to prepare myself for Janet Fraiser's death.

One of my favorite parts of this episode was Sam describing in detail why the Stargate on Earth uses more power than Stargates that have DHDs. She was the only member of SG-1 who was being really friendly and cooperative with the film crew and then she bored the crap out of them. I found her description fascinating though. And I loved how excited and passionate she was about it. Just like a real geek.

One of the parts that I liked least was the archaeologist for SG-13. The actor seemed to over act his role. I suspect he must have had a lot of training in live theater. All his arm movements were big and he just seemed to over act his part. I had a hard time believing they were on another planet, instead of a theater stage.

Sure. The U.S. has free speech. Now, if the guy you've just chewed out is actually elected president though, he becomes the Commander in Chief. Commander of the military. And then you'd better hope he doesn't remember you.

I have a question... call me silly, but... If a person hasn't seen an episode yet (or it hasn't aired in their locale), why are they reading the viewer discussion about said episode? huh.gif There's bound to be something written that will undoubtedly "spoil" it for the viewer who hasn't seen the episode yet. Just thinking out loud... whistling.gif

I've seen this episode. However, a rather large number of the people who posted seem to have not noted the "(Part One)" at the top of the page. Fortunately, I already knew the major event in the next episode due to a careless slip by a friend...otherwise I'd be as angry as andy. dry.gif

That being said, I thought this episode was pretty good and funny. "Dr. Jackson will die when he sees this!" "You mean again?" was great. I also liked Chevron Man's recounting of his job, though we've seen him do more than that. (He monitored the Tollan communication device in "Between Two Fires")

I also liked how the blinking lights in the control room were pointed out...a nice touch. laugh.gif

Oh, and the part with Siler testing the staff weapon shield. Great! Teal's interview: Very nice. biggrin.gif

I have more to say, but it pertains to the big event of the next episode.

Good epi, thought it had some good light humor like the tielk thing...

anyway, sci-fi channel had a snippet abot something changing SG-1 forever and showed a pic of Oneill falling down.... OMFG THEY CNAT CUT ONIELL!!!! Hes like the king king.gif of sg-1

Posted by: Granny101 Feb 14th 2004, 10:12 AM

Hehe, I liked it.. it wans't my favorite, but it was pretty good.

I liked the betting that the offworld SG team made

"two-headed aliens"
"Good or Bad?"
"One head good, one head bad.."

that was pretty funny to me

(but then, I'm fairly easy to please)

Posted by: Ares Feb 14th 2004, 10:17 AM

I liked this ep, of course it's leading up to a great pt. II. Hehe, I liked how Teal'c just sat there during the interview cause Hammond didn't tell him to participate in it. I also liked Colonel Dixon, but then again I've always liked Adam Baldwin so I guess I'm a bit biased. I really hope he gets a big part in Atlantis, maybe a regular character, like mith said, I could really see him doing big stuff in that show.

LOL, I also liked how O'Neill told off Kinsey, but the 'offworld activation' crap overlapped the obvious curse words and crude language. laugh.gif

Good ep, ***

EDIT: w00t, 1 year anniversary! Happy Valentine's Day people(aimed at the females, of course) biggrin.gif

Also, are AF officers allowed to voice opinions about politics?

Sure. The U.S. has free speech. Now, if the guy you've just chewed out is actually elected president though, he becomes the Commander in Chief. Commander of the military. And then you'd better hope he doesn't remember you.?

I don't think so, once you sign your life away to the military, you have greatly restricted your freedom. After all, each officer represents the entire AF, and every one that doesn't believe the same thing could be put off by the military. I was only a cadet for a semester before they found out that I had asthma, but I received 3 or 4 lectures on such things. I know that they are allowed to have opinions, and they can discuss them when in private company, and no recording devices are around and they are out of uniform, and I am pretty sure that in uniform, on a base, on camera, they must refuse to answer. I am not sure exactly where the line is though.

Edit: Ok, here are the details.
It is required that an officer state something to the effect of "in my opinion" before given one to a reporter. But they are strongly encouraged to never give opinions when around cameras and stuff, because the media has a habit of editing that stuff out. Jack definitely didn't say "in my opinion", and he could get in trouble, although it won't happen because the public will not ever hear him say it.

Wasn't the Colonel escorting the film crew the same guy as the ATF agent from "Seth"?

Thank You! Obviously I wasn't totally enthralled with this episode since I spent most it trying to place where I had seen this actor. Seems Special Agent Hamner has an Air Force twin. laugh.gif

This was okay with some nice humor (I especially like the rapport between Sam and Teal'c this season) but it's hardly great when the best scene goes to the chevron guy. And that was a great scene.

I generally don't read spoilers but just knowing this one had a film crew documenting life inside the SGC...I expected more. But the "interviews" just seemed like setups for jokes and hardly an attempt to get to know the people or what they do or what the SGC's mission is. Had Mr Bregman never done an interview let alone a documentary before now? And the film crew was so stationary. I guess I expected more of an ambush approach with the crew catching SG-1 unawares as they go about their work. Ultimately this idea of a film-crew-within-a-show is hardly original and I think Babylon 5, Farscape and X-Files... to name a few... all did it much better.

Maybe, as suggested, this will play better in conjunction with part two but by itself it was just mediocre.

Posted by: Hathor Feb 15th 2004, 7:47 PM

Well, my main thoughts are that whoohooo! chevron man was interveiwed. and that is so true about what he does. and i must admit i liked daniels "i just wanted to see if you'd chase me".

overall, this episode wasn't fantastic, but obviously could be leading up to something with the whole ruins of the ancient city. what i'm wondering is if that sg team was just there randomly for this episode because they wanted sg-1 being harassed back on base, or if the characters could be important later. maybe in atlantis? ::starts coming up with random theories:: always wanting some vaugely familiar character to cross into atlantis...

Edit: I don't think we've ever see nso much from another sg team. have we?

Yes.....finally I'm posting my review.

I just would like to say that I truly enjoyed watching this episode! I love satire so I loved all the little inside jokes. Jack about the memos, Teal'c not saying much, Sam using her tech-talk, Daniel about being ascended, Daniel talking too fast, and fascination on carbon dated anaylsis results. Sure, it was not the normal Stargate SG-1 eppy, but sometime it's nice to see a little abnormality once in awhile.

That Bregman was a real pain in the mikta....wasn't he? I know there were many times I wish someone would just strangle the guy. And, I know Jack would do it gladly. Just the way he was just in everybody's face, and not respecting the confidentiality of the SGC. I loved it when Gen. Hammond told it to him straight, and how he felt about the whole project. I especially love the remark by Gen. Hammond about it being a reality show.

The Fab Four were brilliant, and there interaction with Bregman. I love how Sam was all nervous, and got a little stage fright with being on camera. Oh.....and Teal'c was hilarious. Just sitting there and not saying a word. I always say that Teal'c can say so much without saying much at all. I just thought that was funny.

Now.....I have to say that Jack and Daniel were my favorites in their interactions with Bregman. Both of them being smartasses was very funny! Of course, Jack being a smartass in trying to avoid Bregman, and Jack's remarks were very funny!

And.....Daniel.....well.....one my favorite scenes would have to be when Daniel and Bregman are talking in the hallway talking about Daniel's ascension. Then, Daniel's beeper goes off. Then, he goes running down the hall, and Bregman with his filmcrew chase Daniel to his office to the fax machine.....

(Transcripts from gateworld.net)
BREGMAN: What is it? What is it?

JACKSON: (Speaking very fast, words jumbling together) Itsamassfragemantiwas

BREGMAN: Sorry, could you just slow down ... what? (a little joke on how Daniel talks too fast....especially when excited....too funny! )

JACKSON: It's the mass fragment I collected from P3X-298 ... It was covered in the domestic, pre dynastic period of Egypt here on Earth.

BREGMAN: And what is it ... Could you get a shot of this.

Camera zooms in. We see 'INTERNAL FAX: Laboratory results'

BREGMAN: And ... ah ... what is the significance of that?

JACKSON: It's Fascinating.

BREGMAN: It's ... OK ... back up, back up ... err ... that's it ... it's fascinating? Why were we running?

JACKSON: Oh I just wanted to see if you'd chase me (He smiles so cute here!)

Daniel being a smartass.....I love it! I also loved how Daniel was being vague in his answers to Bregman.

Oh.....and can I forget SG-13. I just loved'em. That Col. Dixon makes Jack look like a pussycat. Man....talk about your hard--well y'know. And....Balinsky.....I swear he could be Daniel's twin. I wonder, do all archaeologist have that wide-eyed-child enthuasim? I thought it was just uncanny how much he acted just like Daniel would. Oh.....and I love this scene.....

(Transcripts from gateworld.net)
DIXON: How long?

BALINSKY: I don't know. why we just got here ...

DIXON: An hour ago.

BALINSKY: Well, I need more time, look at this place, I mean it's incredible.

DIXON: Yeah, you seen one crumbled city ...

BALINSKY: Sir. This place was built by the ancients.

DIXON: You sure?

BALINSKY: Yes these markings, this stone and architecture ... oh Dr. Jackson is going to die when he sees this.

DIXON: What, again?

BALINSKY: Funny.

Is that just like a Daniel/Jack moment or what? Oh...and that last little joke cracked me up!

Oh.....and Wells talking about his unborn child.....and showing off the ultra-sound image.....and being a proud daddy-to-be. I thought that was sweet. I know that will be significant for part 2.

I thought that Bregman flirting with Janet was kinda cheesy, and felt very uncomfortable.

I felt bad when Wells got hit.

I thought the last scene was a good way to end the episode.....

(transcripts from gateworld.net)
SG-1 come down the corridor geared out.

JACKSON: It's all because I wanted an aerial survey.

CARTER: It took me to long to work out the probe sent a transmission.

O'NEILL: None of that matters now.

Film crew watch.

*TO BE CONITNUED*

Kind of a humbling moment.

Ooooh....I can't wait for Part 2! By the looks of the teaser....it looks like it could be serious, and very sad. I guess I better get out the hankies for this one.

All I can say about this episode is that by the end, I was hooked. It is what caused me to go out and search for this forum. I had never thought to look for spoilers before, although I watch religiously, had even subscribed to showtime when it was required to watch it. Now I am more pumped than ever!

I wondered what was up with that. just a time filler or something, or are they trying to give doc fraiser a relationship? but with that guy? it was weird. she can do better than that. she should keep one of his cameramen as a boytoy biggrin.gif

Posted by: Reshef Feb 16th 2004, 7:16 PM

Wife say's she would not mind keeping RDA or MS around as a boytoy...but only if I wasn't around biggrin.gif Personally, I think she (Dr. Frasier) should have been more developed in terms of a boyfriend or husband....would love to have seen the look on his face when he brought home Cassandra

I was told to post this here:

Filming cost of a Stargate episode: $100,000 TV set to watch it on: $200 Cable: $30 a month Seeing Janet Fraiser flirting: Priceless w00t.gif

I know that she was flirting with a creepy old guy, but hey, it was funny. I don't think she was flirting so much as trying to freak him out and stop him from flirting with her. Then again, poor girl, never gets any action and she might flirt with a telephone pole given the chance. whistling.gif

Posted by: seymour Feb 17th 2004, 1:27 AM

If I'm not mistaken, after Carter's chat about the smokin' gate, Bregman went over to ask her something privately, he asked for the camera to stop shooting. So Dr. Fraiser may not have been the first female that Bregman showed interest in., just the first to respond.

Pity to make Bregman sleezy, he made some very good arguments about why the work at the SGC should be documented even if the material was not be viewed for years.

O'Neill and Jackson came off as adolescents.

I did not like the show the first time I saw it (too much pre-show hype) but loved it the second time around when I wasn't expecting any carnage of important characters. It was very funny.

Didnt like this episode.. horrid! stagte-sg1 is going downhill..

(just my opinion)
the documentary camera view is really horrible .. i just didnt like it..

isnt showing the crappy documentary camera view really useless anyway!? They look like actors trying to act like normal people who are trying to act, but are just doing a bad job of acting like they are acting like normal people acting like acting people(or something like that)

I think they need better writers. (I'm not a writer .. so no, i couldn't do any better. but, Yo!)

They need to fire the new writers and hire the old ones back.

Posted by: SG-15 Feb 19th 2004, 4:23 PM

I thought it was ok, but one thing keeps nagging me. Janet acted in this episode like she was never married, and if I remember correctly in the episode Hathor (113), she mentioned her husband.

Janet: "'There's a reason they call it this man's army."

Carter: "Really, your husband said that.

...if I remember correctly in the episode Hathor (113), she mentioned her husband.

She mentioned an exhusband. So this many years later there's nothing strange about her saying she's not married as opposed to no longer married.

I liked that Doc Fraiser was the only one who "acted" like herself for the interview. She gets very little screen time but she's always outstanding.

And sad to say it but a second viewing of this ep didn't improve my opinion. It's not only still mediocre but now its also irritating. I think I'll forego watching it again or irritation will probably turn to dislike and this season has had enough of that already. sad.gif

Posted by: teryl_brat42 Feb 19th 2004, 8:55 PM

Well, I think Doc Fraiser acted awfully blonde once she got off the camera. And even on the camera, her voice was different, her personality was different. Maybe this is just because there has never been a time for her to show her non-doctor persona. I kinda like her a little ditsy-ish, it makes her that much cuter! cloud9.gif

Also, as dorien said about Hathor, she was married so long ago and for a short time that it would only be second nature to reply with 'no' if she were asked about being married. Anyways, I just liked the flirting comment, even though I don't think she was flirting back with him, just trying to be civil (isn't she so nice and wonderful!? biggrin.gif ) because nobody else was being nice to the guy (not that he didn't deserve what he was getting).

Posted by: Heru'ur Feb 19th 2004, 9:40 PM

I liked that episode. It was funny. Teal'c being his usual silent, non-talkative self was exceptionally hilarious. Walter or 'the chevron guy' gave an interesting interview about how important his job is and how much pride he takes in it. And like the filmer was skeptical of the real importance of his job. One of the more humorous episodes indeed. Can't wait to see part 2 wehn it comes out tomorow.

Posted by: IceQueen Feb 21st 2004, 12:53 PM

Hey, was Janet really flirting with the media guy? Obviously, in the last episode it has become apparent that he fancied her a lot, but what about the other way around?

Also: I didn't get why she volunteered the information about adopting an alien child, because I got the impression that SG Command, on the whole, was annoyed by the media and didn't want to volunteer any kind of information whatsoever.

Or was that her flirting?

Posted by: Lit Gal Feb 21st 2004, 4:25 PM

I liked how much the SGC staff really gave that reporter a hard time. They don't play well with others--do they?

I liked the fact that they brought in the cameras because something of this magnitude would be recorded for history, so it seems reasonable.

I love the fact that all the archeologists seem as danger-prone as Daniel. If there was an alien probe, leave it to the nerd to find it.

I adored the interactions amoung the SG-13 team members. They really seemed to connect well and in an amazingly short time on screen.

I disliked how little action there was. I agree with Aesir here. This just felt like one giant set up for part two.

Just for Mithwriter: As far as bad luck goes, I wouldn't worry about being on SG-13, I would worry about being on SG-11; that team has been totally wiped out TWICE. Given a choice between a little triskaidekaphobia and joining a team with that track record, I'd get over fearing the number 13 really quickly.

Just watched "2010" on Monday night stargate. Every main cast member either dies or is dead in this episode except for Janet, who goes through the stargate. And now Janet is the only main cast member who is dead. Isn't it weird how things turn out?

Posted by: Jetdeck Mar 21st 2004, 6:46 PM

I love how Jack, Daniel, and Teal'c, each in their own way, gave the film crew trouble! I think it just showed how unique their characters really are! The only thing, I did not like about the film crew being there, was at times things seemed to be hard to follow, with everyone running all over and the scenes kept changing so quickly! ohmy.gif

Posted by: datag Mar 25th 2004, 5:30 PM

This was a really boring episode because all it was was a bunch of cameramen following around members of the SGC but it was really really good the way that they made you really think that something big was going to happen but they ended the episode

Posted by: Mac.Fan Apr 18th 2004, 4:44 AM

Sam was shock when Jack got hit by a staff blast. She went to him state away. crying.gif The Cameramen was trying to get in fo when they heard the some one was shoot, so they try to find out who and why? Jack didnt want to be in the interview like the others.

I loved this episode, i thought that both heroes episodes were the best ones of season 7... best line in the episode is from jack "i hope that shots of my ass serve you well" haha i really liked how they (SG1) were giving that government guy a hard time when he was doing that investigation.... especially liked it when daniel says 'you fire me, you throw me in jail, you do what you want" then gets up and walks away. laugh.gif great episode!

1st Off - Thanks to the dip s*** for posting a spoiler on the first page of this topic! Cheers mate!

2ndly - I hope next weeks episode is more action packed and less "look at me with the silly camera"

Posted by: laurab Jan 21st 2005, 9:51 PM

I had been waiting for yonks for this episode, & yet this first part moved tooo slow.
I don't know wether it had something to do with the fact that the storyline was too much for 1 episode, but not quite for 2. They hadn't got enough stuff to have the first pt run for the usual episode length, so they filled the gaps with s***. & when it was full, it was too boring.
I was lucky enough to see pt 2 on the same night (love the idea of having 2 eps each Thurs.)- but i was forced to watch it on a little tv (as i was on holidays down at the beach, & the tv where we were staying was small).
Even though i was away for 2 weeks, I was lucky enough to only watch these 2 down there (it wasn't on the 2nd week i was down there!)

Posted by: Asgardian Dec 18th 2005, 7:19 PM

I REALLY liked getting to see another team off world, and at that, they didn't find any aliens which was really cool. They need to show more of those kind of funny "I win" (the daniel of their team) kind of missions.

He was also in one of the best episodes of the new version of The Outer Limits...

This episode and Part II are some of the better episodes of season 7. The janet Frasier part is memorable and tragic. This season ending was done with the idea that the series would not continue past season 7. IMO, it should have ended after seaon 8, but I know that others disagree. wink.gif
