I really liked this episode, I liked how you didn't know what the wraith was going to do to Shepard.
I forsaw this episode becoming the "Sheppard Show" again...but it didn't. Which I loved.
And it was fantastic to see Sheppard telling the Wraith to shut the hell up...what great acting on Joe Flannigan's behalf. Bless him.
I saw the Wraith giving him back his life from a mile away. I kinda figured that stargate Atlantis wasn't gonna continue with Sheppard being a million years old. And I knew the wraith was going to feed on him again outside the cell.
Well, other than a few predictable moments...this was a well written and well acted episode. It was really good, and I enjoyed watching it.
Absolutely agreed. I have nothing bad to say about this episode. No nitpicks, not plotholes. Just riveting television.
Fantastic.
Great episode, overall sga has just been excellent this season.
OMG that episode so rocked.
I knew as soon as they were outside and the Wraith attacked him, that he was going to give him his life back.
Pretty awesome episode overall. Why is the guy that plays Halling playing Wraith all of a sudden?
'All bets are off'.... nice! 'There is a great deal you do not know about Wraith'....
For the first time, I liked the Atlantis episode more then the SG1 episode.
This one had so much depth. I liked how the Wraith said he had been there for years. They had been starving him. The Wraith and Shep spoke as most prisoners would, even after they knew who and what the other was.
I figured that there had to be something that the Wraith could do because John got fed upon to the point almost like Sumner in season 1. Something had to happen.
The Wraith had begun to give up hope. He was starving. He would die there. Listening to Shep talk about escaping and believing that his people would come, gave the Wraith hope to try and survive.
Once they escaped, I bought them as a team. I bought them working together to survive. Even though I felt that the Wraith giving Shep back his life was kind of a copy out, it didn't bother me. I went with it.
I have been complaining from day one that the Wraith were boring and cliche, nothing to them. They finally have given the Wraith something that makes them interesting. They can give back life to worshippers or to brothers. So Shep is a brother, yet, if they meet again, all bets are off, or are they?
On a side note, I loved Ronon's expression when they were going to go and rescue Shep, and Weir said, "If you find Koyla........."Ronon smiled and said, "no promises."
I'm SO glad they finally gave the Wraith some more dimension than them simply being all evil...
I would REALLY love to see this Wraith meeting Michael...
Finally an episode that was not a re-hash of an old SG-1 storyline.
I also liked the way they made the Wraith less monstrous.
Great episode!
I liked this one, too. The life energy "re-supply" was kinda easy to see comming, but it wasn't a bad way to show it. Thumbs up on this one...
Great show. I always hoped they would do a show like this one. I'm about 50/50 that they will meet again in a future episode. If they do, it should be interesting. I hope it doesn't happen for awhile though, atleast 4 episodes.

got a query.. i though that the receiving end of the gate is able to see the address of the sender or is it just my bad memory.
i thought that when you dial a gate the receiving gate will light up symbols according to the address of the sender.
also shouldn;t it be easier to find out where shepard is, i mean they got the last 50 addresses that was dialed i would assume in chronological order. all htey had to do was to backtrack...
I didn't have too high hopes for this episode... But it turn out to be a positive surprise
I thought this episode was really good too. I liked seeing steel and strength behind Sheppard's flip sense of humor. I liked that he wouldn't give up, or let the Wraith give up. It shows a measure of his character that he was able to rise above the fact that the Wraith had, in essence, mortally wounded him. Thumbs up, Shep - and you don't look half bad as an old guy either.
However, I failed to see that a case was made for Weir to not hand over Ladin in exchange for Shep. Big deal if that how we do it on Earth. Who cares? They're nowhere near Earth, and as Shep would say, that makes all bets off. What has Ladin ever done for them? Basically, all they know about him is that he was a traitor. They should have handed him over on a plate, with a side of fries.
Also, I thought the Wraith was cool. Who knew they could have a sense of humor and honor? Ronin was a bit over the top as usual, though I liked the fact that he's warmed up enought to overtly call Sheppard a friend. It was a little different from his usual noncommital exterior. He's tall!
THAT was an episode.
i loved the team dynamic when the genii guy came to atlantis and ronan's all up in his face, and teyla and rodney were just restraining themselves. i also loved when rodney gives that pep talk and carsons like "rodney...WHAT are you on about?" and when rodney goes "we just wasted 2 and a half hours....and a mouse"
i didnt see the whole wraith giving back sheppherd back his life coming, and i thought it was a great way to end the ep with "there is much you do not kow about wraith" and then sheppherd later saying "well there is much you do not know about humans". i really hope they bring this wraith back later in the season.
the next ep doesnt look so great but this one was a surprise so maybe theres hope...
btw did ronan have a new jacket in this ep? it looked different to me
When I saw the wraith feeding on Sheppard and he turned old and grey I was like NO WAY!! There's got to be something that'll make him young again
I never though the wraith would keep his end of the deal or that he will save his live.
I liked how Weir did things HER way and kept a clear mind while Sheppard was being tortured in front of them. However she took a big risk with Landen (hope I got his name right)..... I would have at least send Ronan back with him, just to make sure.
Loved how they made the wraith again look like the bad guys with a noble cause... if you're starving you have to eat... I'm pretty sure this one never cared about his victims ever suffering before but all those years alone in jail with no food made him see things in a different way. It's interesting how close they are to humans in some ways
excelent episode, it was a very nice turn around, especially after last weeks episode
this episode proves that the wraith are not evil by nature, but simply from our point of view they are (obviously, because they eat humans). they obviously care about loyalty, and stick to their word
i thought shepard was gonna offer the wraith to turn him into a human though, im supprised they didnt[s]
I liked this episode. I thought it was great. I knew that the wraith would give sheppard his life back. As soon as that happened i was like "damn i watch to much sci fi" haha....it was so predictable to me. But i really liked it though. It showed some things about the wraith and and perhaps it could lead to some kind of friendship in the far future or something.
Well I seem to be the only one, but Ronan was getting on my nerves after Ladin came through the gate. I was expecting Weir to tell him to shut up or leave, but instead she keeps putting up with his comments until she finally goes to her office with Ladin.
This episode really made me think and anticipate what the wraith was going to do. It was kind of predictable in certain parts though. Like, I knew that the voice in the cell was a wraith before we even saw him. And I knew that Weir wouldn't give up Ladon to Kolya. But we did learn something about the wraith. It's not that they care about their victims, but that they kill more because they have to, though I'm sure they like it when they're not so weak, as this wraith was. I wonder if we'll see him again in the future. Man Shepherd looked kinda freaky being all old and gray. It was weird because his face and front of his neck looked wrinkly and saggy, but the side of his neck looked as young as ever. I saw this when he and the wraith were escaping and he turned his head.
Whats with the Anti-Rononess. If someone you really liked was taken and tortured because of the mistake someone else made you would all be acting as serious as Ronon. Its only because Elizabeth Weir is one of those non-agressive people that she can handle situations really well. She wasnt chosen to run the SGC on her looks.
I really enjoyed this episode, I thought it was far superior to the SG-1 equivalent this week.
I didn't totally see the wraith giving Shepard his life back coming, but I had figured out after the first feeding that it was the wraith in the cell next door. I did know that the wraith was going to give Shepard his life back when he fed on two people - taking more than he needed, giving the excess to Shepard, thus restoring him.
This episode was very much character development orientated, whereas SG-1's was mostly visual with some character development from Vala and Adria.
Having seen this episode my mind is far more at ease about the cancellation of SG-1, if Atlantis can continue producing episodes like this, I'm far less concerned about having to rely on it for my weekly fix of escapism.
(First post on here in two and a half years, go me)
308 spoiler:
Damn, I wanted to make the "no caller ID" line.
Regarding Ronin mouthing off, if Weir didn't want him to do it she would have had him leave. She was letting him be the bad cop.
Regarding handing over Laden, not negotiating with terrorists isn't just a US rule, it's a reasonable one. You can't do it, otherwise people know it works and keep trying it on you.
And there's really no point in handing over Laden at the point where they let him go. If they were going to trade him or torture him they might as well have done it before three wraith feedings on sheppard.
As for the life being given back, I'm embarrassed to see I didn't see it coming. I thought maybe he'd be old for a while, and then the Asurans or someone else would fix him up. Thought maybe we'd get a few scenes of everyone looking horrified, then he's fixed.
So all in all, a great ep. The only stinker this year has been the Lucius ep.
Though I will say that it was a bit of a plot hole to not have the atlantis crew dial in to prevent Kolya's escape. They've known about that trick for at least ten years, come on people!!
Great episode. I wasn't expecting too much from this episode, but it turned out to be a lot better than I anticipated. I really enjoyed the interaction between Sheppard and the Wraith prisoner. When Sheppard started getting old, I never expected that it would be a Wraith that would restore him.
wow, so was I one of the only people who didn't see the Wraith-healing thing comming at all?
When the Wraith fed on Sheppard, I was sure it was a dream the wraith was having. Then when it kept going I was "OMG, WTF?" That was really cool, I never expected the Wraith to be able to give back life
Also, I want to save this space right here for how much I love Robert Davi
Kolya rox my sox!!
Great episode, but I reeeeaaallllly can't wait for the next one (what can I say, I'm a Mckay whore
)
I have to say this was a good episode, Atlantis is getting better as it go's a long.
I always woundered if the wriath could do that, looks like they can after all.
Excellent episode! I really liked the wraith/Sheppard interraction! I'm sure many people on this forum will have something to say, because they felt the wraith are people too, so to speak! We had a chance to see the wraith as individuals, with real feelings and emotions, not just as life draining vampires! I was totally blown away when the wraith gave Sheppard back his life force, didn't see that coming!
I hope in some way they meet again, and are able to work together! But it's probably a pipe dream! Rodney was hilarious when he was telling extraction/recon team what to do! I wonder if for a second if they were actually listening to him !:P~ Rodney with a P90! I guess he'd be safer with a wraith stunner! That poor mouse! And Kolya was a jerk! Using Sheppard to get a man who betrayed him! But as Weir said, we don't negotiate with terrorists!
Attached image(s)
I liked this ep too. When the wraith said that there's much we don't know about wraith I knew he was gonna igve life back to John.
But how would you call that process? If taking energy from somebody is "feeding", what would be giving energy back? "Throwing up"? ...
I too loved McKay's briefing and mouse incident. It just bothered me when everybody else run there and gathered around McKay - very unproffesional, like schoolgirls, not Airforce soldiers...
This giving life back thing somewhat is also a bit dissapointment for me. I think of it as a form of cheating - as time travel is - to patch things when they go too far...
None the less - three thumbs up for this episode...
Of course trailers are spoilers. Anything that contains images, dialogues and previews from a show or a movie you would like to see is a spoiler, trailers included.
But Auntie, there is a form of spoilers you do... Spoiler Pics...
Indeed! Yes I love the picture ones. But never context spoilers. ![]()
Ziu the rules for episode discussion section of the forum is NO FUTURE EPISODE may be discuss at anytime unless it is in spoiler tags. That never expires. So you cannot go in to a S1 episode and talk about a S4 epiosde even though S1 was 9 years ago. You must still use spoiler tags. So yes what he did broke the rules. And yes what he did PISSED me off royally. I reported him as well.
He does not have the right to ruin things for others. SO weither it was in the trailer or not does not matter.
I'm gonna go ahead and apologize. *slaps self* I'm just a stupid n00b, what can I say? It won't happen again.
What a great episode! I, too, was afraid that this was going to be a ?John Sheppard Show? but was pleasantly surprised. I don?t think that with the amount of life-energy the Wraith drained from him that Sheppard would be strong enough to fight like that, but?*shrug* Also, it was fairly predictable that Sheppard wasn?t going to die, but I wasn?t sure how the Wraith was going to do it. (As it turned out, almost like a vampire turning someone, but without all the side-effects.) I knew Beckett couldn?t have, but you never know with these writers.
The Wraith?s ?There is a great deal you don?t know about the Wraith? was great, and so very true. I?d have enjoyed seeing this in S2, because it?s what I?ve been waiting for since the introduction of them in the pilot. There *is* so much we don?t know about the Wraith that, as the biggest threat, we should.
As the starving victim who no doubt had a lot of time to contemplate his circumstances, it?s amazing that he came to the conclusions he did. Kill the Genii, but not Sheppard because they needed each other. Revenge against those who actually did this to him, not the one being who helped him escape.
I wonder, though?will the Wraith really accept him back to the fold after so long? More we don?t know about them.
But what I really liked was Ronon and Teyla?s incredulousness over the Wraith giving life back. It?s clearly something none of their people know, and I?m sure a closely guarded Wraith secret. Who?d want this getting out? They?d have people lining up outside their ships offering to worship them just for the chance at life again.
The best line (other than ?There is a great deal you don?t know about the Wraith?, making this the 2nd best, I guess) is when the Wraith (give them names, please!) says that ?the gift of life is reserved for our most devout followers?and our brothers.? Reminded me of a Native American Blood Brother; the sharing of life (taking and returning in this case for a noble cause and a great necessity) is pretty powerful, and not something easily done on the Wraith?s part. He took more than he needed from his Genii captors so he could return life to Sheppard.
It showed a huge depth to the character, not just as a life-sucking vampire, but as one who remembers, or more importantly has *learned*, the value of friendship. Keeping promises never seemed to me a Wraith thing until this episode, and I?d love to see more of the inner workings of their society.
I loved the Ronon intimidation scenes; they were just funny because of the difference in height and the look on Landen?s face ? priceless. Landen?s comment about ?his good friend Ronon there? was right on. It also showed, without words that probably wouldn?t work in Ronon?s case anyway, the depth of feeling he has for his new friends. They?re his family now, more than his team. He?d do anything for them.
Also, McKay, whom I adore, was great ? ?Let me rephrase that question? and ?Oh, it was, um?a mouse. Rat, really, very large rodent like?maybe a rabbit?? lol, great.
I was under the impression that the wraith couldnt feed on Sheperd after the Bug incident in one of the earlier episodes...
I will admit, after the first feeding I thought they were going to give him his life back, but I was unsure. I could see the old, "Maybe people can recover after being fed upon." or even "Sheppard is still in good shape, but now is a living reminder of what the wraith can do."
But yeah after the second feeding it was so very obvious:)
But all in all, great episode.
Nice epp. Really loved McKay speaking to the attack-force
I hoped he'd take the lead, but instead it was potatohead Ronan.
Man i hate that guy, the way he gets agressive on every occasion, no respect no thinking just get angry.....blegh.
Better than Tayla though, lal i forgot her name
Tayla reminds me of raisons in a badly baked cake. They look dilicious at first, tastes great! But if the cake is badly baked, you won't notice them being in there.
(hope that was correct English)
Hahah....I love how defensive everyone is on the site.
I hate it when noobs discuss Stagate.
Good thing this isn't one of those sites.
"Next time we meet, all bets are off"
Great line.
That bit at the end where he goes, "Next time Kolya(spelt right?) im gona shoot you on site. And you see Kolya like shaking his head. That was a great.
Awsome hail the writers and actors of this episode
The way Sheppard was healed well they gave away to much hints.... I thought the Wraith would do the healing..... it but I hoped he would get healed over time in Atlantis and while doing that they gained another weapon against the Wraith.... oh well just wishfull thinking.....
I hope they don't let Kolya live to long.... it's about time to give him one two hrs. special and let him die......
It was a shame that they use the Halling actor to play this wraith. The wraith was too 'Halling' in his long talks for my liking. That being said the Wraith was done brilliantly.
How much of his character was down to being in that cell for years or down to taking sheps force from him, He said about feeling his strength but maybe he wasn't just talking aobut physical but mental also
MaKay was great as well, I loved his speach to the Marines and thumbs up for Wier and then emptying a clip into a small defenceless mouse on that planet
.
Ronon was slightly over the top for me, yes his friend had been kidnapped and fed apon by a wraith in front of his eyes but still....
Did i see M&M's names being credited for this one? If so then what the hell has happened to them? Someone must have slipped them both a 'good script writing' pill or two. Kinda makes me less nervous in watching any of their upcoming episodes.
The only thing I hope is that the writers show Sheppard having some ramifications from his ordeal, nothing over the top or anything.
Watch the last 3 episode back to back. This one is pretty good.
Knew John would be ok, that was predictable, so now we all know that feeding process is reversible, you would think the Acients, might know that and left some info in the database?
I like it the fact that Weir did not negotiate, knowing at that time John will die painfully and slowly. Now JS just need to get really young to parallel Jack O'Neill's life
One last thing, did anyone think Ronin was a bit Over-acting when he approach Lalin asking about Sheppard, I mean he looked like it he care about he more than anything, abit too attached? or maybe bad acting?
I can't believe it but I'm actually starting to feel some sympathy for the Wraith. Afterall they only feed to live. Yes, I would not want to be feed on and yes I think by and large they are evil but mostly they just feed to live. I can't believe Kolya did that to Sheppard. Damn. But then again I was expecting Sheppard to say to the Wraith ... go a head and feed on any of the Genii you want here, especially Kolya. That Wraith needed to feed on Kolya, that's what I was hoping for.
GREAT EPISODE !!!!!!!
Ronin is secretly in love with Shep and sometimes it bleeds through to the surface. He struggles to keep it out of site but times like these where Shep life is in jeopardy Ronin has trouble!
You should try Wonders writings. There are lots and lots of slash stuff in the slash section of the forum. Just because you like slash does not mean you are gay. I love it and I am not gay.
This episode just shows how much Ronan loves Shep! Sure, sure as a brother in arms but perhaps with a touch of sexual love as well!
That was....amazing. The Wraith truly possess mighty powers...........
When the wraith sucked the life out of Sheppard that last time till he was a frail old man my mum said 'bastard!' and when he went on the rampage sucking the life out of all those Genii, she said 'its a shame they cant give back life'. hehe she got a nice surprise at least. I had figured when he took the last lot of life out of him, he was going to use it to kick Genii arse and give it back to him somehow.
Brilliant story. I liked this episode a lot. Perfect 5/5 from me!
have beef only with two things in this episode.
First, "the gift of life". Atlantis has been walking a fine line with the Wraith when it comes to how belivable they are and how scientific that all is. But they've since made attempt to make it a bit more scientific. Comes this episode and in need for a conventient solution to having the life sucked out of Sheppard, comes with one. Completely implausible and silly - and it diminshes the Wraith even more, because if they do decide this isn't magic, the second hte process is reversible it means the team can find the off switch and all point of the Wraith us gone.
The seocnd - why oh why wasn't this episode in season 1?!
Finally, we see the Wraith as more than ridiculous monsters. Finally, they get some character! But it was so much more needed earlier on. True, it proves damages can be fixed - hell, who knows, maybe the damage to Ronon and Teyla isn't irreversible? But it should have come sooner.
Other than that, great episode. I have to say that unlike Torri Higginson who really showed she rocks in The Real World, I'm not too hot on Joe Flanigan's acting - nor the range of the character. But there were some really beautiful moments in there. The one that caught my attention the most was, I suspect, the moment the Wraith feeds on the guard - and Sheppard looks away and doesn't say anything. How that's for revenge on your torturers? Much better than the regular "shoot 'em dead again and again".
I loved the wraith. Completely and utterly. As I siad, much needed developing.
Weir not giving in to Kolya - hooray. Hopefully, LAten (is that his name?) would remember this the next time the Genii are giving us a hard time. This could really develop into a Tok'Ra-esque relationship, which is good. Enough with the double play.
Ronon - okay, they dind't develop him at all this episode, but I enjoyed the touches. Yeah, that little "no promises" smile was lovely. And now I believed the "we help our family" feeling much more than I did in Progeny.
Rodney debriefing the marines - brilliant! ha!
lovely episode.
Oy! YOUR GAY???? NO freakin way Pitry! ![]()
How come you don't like slash. It is so much fun.
I do agree with you. The wraith are and always have been a stupid enemy. Finally they got better...they needed to have more character traits so that we could understand them better. That part was good but it was a cheap copout.
I loved this episode. I knew that the wraith was gonna give him his 'years' back cause Sheppard was NOT gonna go back to Earth to an Old Folks Home. Great acting overall and seeing Kolya again was good but i think he's gonna start annoying me again soon!
Question: Did Weir have a tear in her eye when they were watching John geting fed on?
5/5 Great Episode.
Don't have any serious complains. Funny too. McKay telling the marines off - priceless. McKay justifying why he shot his weapon. " ... more like a rat possibly a rabbit" that was so funny.
That Wraith was very good. Finally we saw some depth into these 'people'.
I hope that he and Shep do meet again further on.
And on that note:
When the episode finished, I thought that it would be cool to see on later episodes Shep to have been affected by this whole sucking-the-life-out-of-him experience in some way (maybe restlessness, nightmares, working too much), some way like that, which a difference becomes apparent to others. I think it adds to realism, even though his health eventually came back to normal.
I also thought that It would be great if they were to make that worse in the episode just before he meets again with that Wraith, hinting towards them being linked in some way after they have shared life energy between them.
One of the best episodes so far.
About ten seconds after the first time we heard the wraith talking, I thought "this is going to be so good if that's a wraith". I was thinking that Sheppard would bond with his cell mate and in the end come to release him after being rescued be the Atlantis crew and only THEN find out that he had bonded with a wraith. But the path the writers chose to take was even better. This way Sheppard bonded with a wraith instead of a supposed human.
Although first creating a demonic evil as an enemy and then beginning to soften and humanize it in small steps is an old trick in writing, it's also extremely efficient when it comes to capturing the viewer. In this episode it was done quite skillfully. Without haste and too much corner-cutting. The wraith are still wraith, but not as wraith as they used to be. I like that.
It was also nice to see that like O'Neill, Sheppard also has some depth beyond his witty, humorous surface. Sometimes you just need some good torture episodes to reveal more dimensions in your characters. Abyss, anyone? ![]()
Aside from Sheppard & the wraith, the episode was quite standard quality. The chemistry and interaction between Sheppard and the wraith really made this ep for me. I hope we get to see this kind of stuff more in the future.
Even though this was a predictable episode from the start, it wasn't all that bad. What TPTB did with the Wraith was a really good twist but they pretty much ended any possibility of a future storyline by saying that Sheppard would kill the Wraith the next he saw him.
The Sheppard and Kolya arc is getting boring now, all that happens is Kolya captures him, Sheppard manages to escape then Kolya escapes through the Stargate. Kolya was a good character to begin with but now he's just being written the same arcs over and over again.
A good episode. I could see the 'gift of life' thing coming, but Sheppard seemed to really earn the respect of the Wraith, which finally showed there might be more to the Wraith.
Koyla should have realised after the 1st 2 feedings that Weir wasn't going to give up Laden. They writers really should just Koyla and Sheppard fight it out and finish it.
Now that was a much better EP.
yea we saw the so called gift of life coming, but i'm happy to see it.
It changes things.
I personally would liek to see Koyla given up to the waith.
here's an intersting thought.
The goa'uld ( i forget how that's spelt) would kill and revive people for information. What stopping the wraith from doing something similar?
suck most of the life out of a man, and give it back... over and over....i think that would be even worse!
And if they revive the person won't he still be still old and dieing? I doubt a sarcophagus would really be helpful but it would be cool idea if it could make them young again then they wouldn't have worry about going to different planet plus it would make the wraith that bit more freaky.
With Sheppard we saw him returned to the age he was at the beginning of the episode but the Wraith had fed on a number of Genii at that point. The one thing we don't know is if they can revive the dead by that method. We know the Wraith can restore life of a person that has been fed on but we don't know if they can return life to a person who has died from the feeding process.
But maybe with the difficulty of getting to earth because of us, they come up with some sort of Tel'chac device or a cloning machine or anything along those lines.
I would assume that they are not able to revive from the dead... just make young again. question is, is can they make someone young again that has natually aged?
Wow.. i was totaly surprised when he did that.
I think it was to be expected the Wraith would some how heal him though. I didn't think for one second that Sheppard would remain like that.
Well off course he wouldn't remain like that, he's a main actor
