ORPHEUS
A Jaffa-centric episode, and it's not a good day for the ones who like the Tauri.
Teal'c's son Ry'ac, and Bratac, are prisoners at a Jaffa death camp. SG-1, however, will not let their friends meet a lethal end and are determined to rescue them. Along the way, Teal'c becomes a prisoner (whether by mistake or in order to save his son, it's not clear) and his fate looks very precarious (since he's a Sholva).

I wonder why it is called Orpheus...seeing how he was a greek bard right...maybe we meet someone new
Orpheus goes into hell to retrieve a loved one, and pays a terrible price.
damn it does tealc get captured in EVERY episode this season?
Orpheus is a son of the Greek muse Calliope. His wife, Euryphidus (or something like that... it's been awhile) gets bitten by a poisenus snake (I think) and dyes.
Orpheus sings his way into the underworld where his singing makes Hades himself cry and agree to let him take his wife back into the world of the living. However, to do so, he must walk infornt of her and lead her along a dangerous cliff - but until they are out into the light of day he cannot ever look back at her.
Greek tragedy working as it does, Orpheus hears her cry out as they are moving. Thinking that she's tripped he turns around to catch her - but in doing so he has condemned her to stay dead after all and looses any chance he had at every being with her again.
Isn't the wife Demeter or the daughter of Demeter...I can't remember off the top of my head....it's only been about 12 years since I looked at greek mythology
No, the daughter of Demeter is the wife of Hades. (Demeter's a she) Her name is Persephone, she ate half of a fruit of the underworld and is Hades wife for six months of the year (Fall and Winter) and her mothers daughter for the other six (spring and summer).
Yep that's it I knew I knew it I just didn't remember.
orpheus's wife is eurydice , im doing it for latin in school.
a lot of smart people in here
I hate stories with teal'c's son, teal'c's wife, teal'c's planet............ Like the warrior, familly, crossroad ....
I am not impatient for this episode " orpheus"
come on it should be good one
I just learnt to translate the whole damn poem FROM LATIN for an exam. It sucked! I wonder if they'll sing, I've always had the image of all the blokes being drunk (cept Teal'c obviously he'd be bolt uprite sober) singing I will survive and then doing a ballad to Janet and Sam. Just the strange wandereings of my mind
So ladyLuna- how long have you been learning about "Greek mythology" for then?
It's all real interesting- but I was taught many of the stories when I was like 12 and have since forgotten them- but when I read your account of Orpheus- I remembered!
how old is teal'c's son now anyway?
and i kinda agree w/ delilah. these teal'c getting captured eps are getting pretty old.
New screenshots have just arrived for this episode, and there is one for the guys - Sam in a combat vest, here's the link:

It looks like it is going to be a really good episode.
There is another photo at that site where you can see what looks like a sniper rifle in the hands of O'neill. Maybe he will see some covert ops skill from him in this ep. Also.. any one see the bleached blond jaffa. hehe. there is a photo where you can see that one of his eyes has been whited out. Does anyone recognize the tatoo on his head? I wonder what that guys story is.
Yeah, this ep sounds to be a bit lacking. I hope they pull it together by the end of the season. I wonder if this will be the end of the Jaffa rebellion, or if they tie it up with this episode?

Stargate SG-1
Orpheus
60 min.
A glum Teal'c battles to revive his spirits and save his son in a moody episode written and directed by ex-21 Jump Street star Peter DeLuise. Fans of the taciturn Jaffa warrior#-SG-1's equivalent to Star Trek's Mr. Spock#-may be surprised to see him so angst-ridden from a laser wound. The reasons are twofold:
His son Rya'c (Neil Denis) is missing, and Teal'c is shamed by his own feelings of weakness. As Teal'c works to heal both his body and mojo, teammate Daniel Jackson, a former godlike entity, inspires a rescue plan after recalling images from his omnipotent past. The clues lead to a Goa'uld labor camp where Rya'c and the Jaffa elder Bra'tac (Tony Amendola) are being held.
Cast: Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Don S. Davis, Neil Denis, Tony Amendola, Obi Ndefo, Teryl Rothery

it should be a good Eps
the thing is, if they plan on mirroring the "orpheus" legend, someone's gonna die.
are you sure ?
Well they could be using the name Orpheus in the same way they used Ra and the Egyption gods and Hathor, where it's not a particular legend they're talking about, just using that name as a goua'ld.
For all we know, Orpheus could be the Gouald who runs the labor camp.
Looks like there will be some good Military action going on too.
i am 98 % is one will be a good one DOnt Miss it
Looks like the SG-1 team and the other 2 teams that go along with them have alot of different from P-90s, sniper rifles, zats, pistols, and apperently Teal'c uses his Death Glider gun in this episode.
BTW how to you attach pictures under neath your threads?

FINALLY!!! FINALLY!!! MY WAIT IS OVER!!!
The true first episode of the season 7 campaign has aired and it's name is "Orpheus".
That was the best ep of the season so far, it had everything. (Including a sniper rifle for the first time in the SG universe I believe).
I knew this one was going to get it done. I knew that a Teal'c/Bray'tac/Ry'ac story would resurrect this soft season and it did.
Was it me or did those captured Jaffa KICK ASS?!?! There was some little Asian dude who flipping around like CRAZY!!!
What an ep!!! That one gets an A++++!!!
Rocks out.
Totally agree, way better than the last couple of episodes.
Does this mean Daniel will start to remember everything about
when he was ascended?
This is kind of bugging me.
Since Teal'c and Bray'tec are now on Tretonin and based on Teal'c's admittance that he was not as strong as he once was, shouldn't he also be aging physically at a much faster rate? Teal'c is over 90 years old and my assumption was that the symbiote also slowed their rate of physical aging.
Yes the Tretonin is designed to boost the immune system much like the symbiote but if it is not 100% effective as the symbiote in some areas, we should notice more changes aside from weakened strength. That being said, Bray'tec should appear much older than he is now.
Perhaps there is something in Jaffa physiology that gives them a slower aging rate, symbiote or no symbiote.
If this may be the case, schew the Ashen's anti-aging/sterility drug. A little time and research, the Tauri can develop their own.
I thought the ep was great! Especially that ending where the 3 jaffa warriors stood side by side and blew the baddies to hell- now that's what I'm calling "quality" Stargate SG1.
Liked the DJ and Teal'c interaction throughout as well...

Whoops, I guess my mind inverted those numbers (I thought it was 331, but I'm blind like that) thanks for the correction.
we need that force field iris that was cool we can easily put those on planets like in demons instead of telling ppl to bury the gate

Actually, the deal with Bra'tac and the Tretonin is that in season five they said that he was going to die within three years because his symbiote was 'maturing'. The Tretonin just expanded his life span by some more years. (I think Bra'tac is around 300) Ry'ac will probably live a normal Tauri length life since he never got a symbiote in the first place but I don't think that they're going to rapid age Teal'c and Bratac. Maybe from this point on they'll age at a normal rate but I don't think they're going to "catch up" on aging... that'd be kinda wierd. Also, I'm surprised to say I liked this episode. I usually don't like Jaffa oriented eps.... |
Ray'ac got a symbiote? I so need to stop taking bathroom breaks when watching stargate.

thats.... no
I was just wondering who that Jaffa was that went with Bra'tac and Teal'c to the slave camp.. I didn't recognize the tattoo on his head, might have been scratched off or something, it looked funky. I guess I didn't see the episode he's been in before, anyone who could shed some light on this matter, it'd be appreciated.
a bucket, food and water# can not forget anything else that might take you away
