Season 7, Episode 4 - Orpheus
Original Air Date: June 27, 2003
Teal'c and SG-1 must risk everything to rescue his son and his mentor from a Jaffa prison.
I haven't watched it yet, is it any good?
I thought it was okay. I know that RDA isn't going to be in the episodes as much, but I hope tonight's and last week's isn't going to be the norm. I hope he's in at least some of them more than he has been the past 2 episodes.
Hey, Daniel was carrying a P90!!!! I was so excited!
I liked the end where Ryac stopped someone from helping Teal'c in a fight. The kid's instincts are good. Winning alone helped Teal'c get back his confidence.
Ok, for starters, I thought this has been the best episode in season 7 thus far... I have expressed my doubts about the first 2 episodes, the third episode was decent, but this one has restored my faith in the season.
I was happy to see Daniel still struggling with the memory loss, I am happy to see this is still a problem and it wasn't just a quick way to get him believably back into the series. There were some good moments that he and Teal'c shared this episode as well.
I was also happy to see some cool and calm military tactics in this one too, man Daniel and Carter sure are gettin good at sneaking around Goa'uld ships...
Overall it was a nice serious, well done, episode w/ some good heart felt moments.
I wan't to write more but I can't at the moment, seeing as I'm on 56k and my brother is waiting for a call.
I liked it, but I must admit they took a big risk stepping thru the gate without making SURE the force field was really off. I do enjoy it when CJ gets to do just more than nod his head and look imposing all the time.
I also liked this ep. I laughed as Jack tried to give Teal'c the pep talk but failed. Also the Daniel and Teal'c moments were great. We don't really see those two together enough. And they finally, FINALLY got to use some snipers and mortars. I love it.
Look, there are dead, dying and zatted Jaffa all over the place by the end of this ep # why can't Teal'c and Bratac just grab a couple of symbiotes, stick em in the pouch and get back to 100%.
Once again, I must add, what's with Sam's hair? Have the budget cuts gotten so deep on the show that everyone has to go to Supercuts?

They makr it pretty clear that neither he nor Bratac are as resilient as another Jaffa because the other dude (can't remember his name ) is up and around while T and B are still lying around with their sippy cups.
Finally Daniel is getting the memories from the time when he was ascended.
Yeah, Daniel is getting his memories back, but I hope that they develop it all to be more than that. Imean, this feels like the last season to me and I hope they close some of the gaps # will we get to see the Furling this season?
Yeah it would be awesome to see the furlings. And where did the nox go?
They're around somewhere, i would like to see The Nox again, but i doubt we will.
i like is Eps it was good ... so Sg-1 will be in 2 weeks
too bad i think the Next eps will be bad

I just downloaded and watched this episode and must say I really liked it.
I think, this is the best episode of season seven so far.
Especially the last scene with Daniel reflecting on his situation of being ascended and descended and now finally he feels like he really belongs to something. And Teal'c said, that he felt the same way. That was great, cause it brings the team together even more as they already were.
The situation of Daniel who is remembering now even parts of his time as an ascended being is now much more believable, because the memory seems to return slowly
Greetz from the "old europe"
yeah' i thought that was a good use of daniels acention deacention amnesia................ thing, also the action was cool, & o'niell with a badass psg-1-classy
I have just finished watching Orpheus, it was a really kick ass episode, it was the first episode i have watched without the buffering, i am sooooo glad now i know how to get rid of the buffering, i just need to find Fallen/Homecoming.
This was probably the best episode in the 7 season so far, i was a little upset the RDA wasn't in the episode as much as i'm used to but other then that it was great. I was a good Teal'c/Daniel episode.
Oh, by the way, i read somewhere that the writers are seriously considering an 8TH season after the rating they got on the 7th season premiere! go to www.gateworld.net to read it yourself!
Attached image(s)
this was so much better than the other jaffa-centered eps. but of course i wanted to go in there and slap teal'c. i hate ppl whining like that. but the parts w/ him and daniel were cool.
i also noticed it was carter and daniel that went to the ship (w/ danny acting all military) which was odd, since oneill usually goes on those sorts of things. i think i liked it better this way. maybe it was just cause carter didn't get a whole lot of other parts.
Liked the whole "Teal'c struggle" thang and I also appreciated the great relationship developing between Teal'c and Daniel Jackson.
I was real worried that something was gonna happen to Bratac- but thankfully the writers haven't lost their minds! ![]()
I also miss not seeing RDA as much as before- if he's gonna cut back on his time, then thats fine, but he can't expect to maintain that "star of the show" status if he CONTINUES spending less time in the episodes than the other co-stars.
Overall though- I really really enjoyed the episode- the writing was great, the choreography was very well done/professional, and of course , (as always)the cast were fantastic.

Can someone please give me a site to where i can download all the SG-1 episodes from Season 1-7, i am also after Fallen/Homecoming, please don't give me kazza , it doesn't work, please someone help me.
Hey, greetings from a place where season seven hasn't been aired yet!
I have a question, how are the special effects of Season seven so far? I noticed that the quality and effort of the effects peaked at around season four and have went downhill since. Are they better again?
They seem just fine to me.
Did anyone catch how Sam was talking about the movie "Signs" when her, Daniel and Teal'C were in the workout room? She said the same thing that I said when I first saw the movie.
Great Episode. Although I really haven't had the complains a lot fo fans have with the earlier episodes, this episode really impressed me. Rya'c showing the courage and wisdom his father has tried to instill on him, Teal'c showing the dilemma of not being a true Jaffa anymore, and O'Neill and Jackson's interaction really made this episode.
Not to nitpick, but how did Jack know that it was gonna be dark in an hour? Solar and Lunar cycles should be a mystery on new planets. Regardless, season seven is looking great, and since from what I read this is Sci-Fi's highest rated show, I'm hoping for season eight.
And excuse me if my post seems a little hard to read, It's late here in Jersey and I've just come from a night of drinking with my friends.
this was probabbly my favourite season 7 episode so far, it just worked really well. and i liked the effect of the ship falling ![]()
@ StargateSG-1 fan
why do you have problems with kazaa (lite)?
all the episodes are there - even in very good qualities. All you need is a little patience.
Kazaa is my best source for all the eps...
I can't find the episodes on kazaa lite, if you could tell me how, it wouldn't be a problem, i really want to watch fallen/homecoming.

here's a question, why is jack shooting the symbiotes? With all this talk of tretonin don't you think that all the jaffa that are killled are used to save the rest, IE, make tretonin? Coulq we use half destroyed ones as long as they were removed quick enough?
i realy liked th episode. but i can't belive how stupide the first plan of teal'c and this other guy was, did the realy think they can go into the camp and noone does even see them. in every other episode the would blow up the damn ship at once. but the writers wanted teal'c captured and realy feeling bad i think so he can regain his strength. And one thing realy botherd me, how did Carter and Daniel get on this Ship?
they found a ring transporter, prolly guarded by a few jaffa. we didnt see that though,
Well, they didn't have to 'find' the ring transporter - you kind of figure that the Jaffa are getting from the ship to the ground somehow.
However, what struck me was that it should've occured to teal'c and Ragnok that Ray'ac and Bra'tc wouldn't just leave and let things go on as they were.
Funny thing about SG-1, I like all the episodes. Orpheus had a good story line.
Oopses: One usually does not place one's support weapons (mortars, in this case) on the skyline where they might get taken out.
It was good to see the Teal'c added another line to his growing collection. The reference to "Mojo" was almost as funny as first season's "What's an Oprah?"

I liked that room full of candles. How did MS and CJ make it look like the heat didn't bother them? |
I know that they found a ring transporter and i know that its logical to asume that ther is one if there is a ship in the sky. My question was, when the Jaffa searched for someone who came with Teal'c the would have a guard around the transporter, and Carter and Daniel where unable to fight against the six Jaffa on the Ship, how did they get on the ship? I think it doesnt make sense that they get up there so fast.
well, i have to say, i didn't think that that episode was WONDERFUL, what ever happened to the days when they were just explorers. i mean, when was the last time they went to a planet without knowing who lived there, what was to be found there etc. everytime they go to a planet it's to rescue someone or ambush someone... what happened to the good old days (oh, no!!!
i sound like my parents
)
well, someone mentioned ring transporters, well i thought the same when i first saw them just ring aboard the ship... i was like, how did they get there??? wouldn't the rings be somewhere in the camp under gaurd. but one thing is possible, in 'homecoming' the colonines (jonas' people) put a ring platform in storage. this means that they are portable, plus in 'the other guys' earth was studying ring platforms so it is possible that they just brought a platform from another location and then ringed aboard or even brought a cargo ship around to the planet... who knows???
Yeah, I know what you mean about the good ol' days. I was watching some of season one's early episodes yesterday, and I was thinking "Nothing beats these early episodes." I love how the characters are still developing, how they're still very new to this whole Stargate thing. Don't get me wrong, I love the rest of the episodes too.
I've been thinking about something Daniel said regarding his descendsion(spelling) from the others. My mind started rolling when he said "I dont know whether i descended willingly or was forced to". Now we've always presumed until this point that he was FORCED to do so against his will. Perhaps there is a reason he wanted to descend. In that episode where Sam meets a descended version of the ancients, he was given all his knowledge. Compare that to Anubis. I guess where I am going is that could it be that because Anubis(probably) fought back against the others when they made him descend, he turns out to be half/half. Which would lead me to the conclusion that since Daniel is FULLY descended that he might of done it willingly or even requested it. In trade, he gave all his knowledge while ascended up.
Actually i said this a long time ago.
Daniel probably chose to descend cause he couldn't just sit back and wathc his friends getting their asses kicked.
Oma probably had a chat with him
"Choose.....descention by your own free will(cause we know how forced descention works out) or never break the rules again"
it was a great ep. i won't say its the best until i seen them all
I must be kinda alone in my opinion here. Persoanlly, I didn't think that this was the best ep. in season 7. For my part, i liked the Fallen- Homecomming combo better. As far as sci-fi goes, that WAS sci-fi. However, my biggest gripe about this episode was Teal'cs apparent softiness. Now I know, I know. The fact that he doesn't have his symbiote blah blah. No, im talking about his emotions and his facial expressions. He isn't as stoic as he was before. I suppose that you could attribute his softening to his lowered pyhsical state, but I still think that the dynamic they had going with Teal'c was damn good. He was always missing the meaning of ceratin earth phrases. He hardly ever smiled. And damn well never showed that he was sad (except when his son hated him, i think). In this episode he was all depressed. I think they might be cutting back on direction time.
##Oh, off the subject, I'm pretty sure about a Season 8. There is a contest underway at SciFi.com for a walk-on role in a SG1 episode. That means that it will either be aired during season 7 or season 8. Knowing how much time it takes to make one of these episodes, I'm pretty sure that the contest winner will appear in season 8.
ok, was able to d/l and watch today...
re Daniel's descension:
I'm guessing it was voluntary as well. At the end of Meridian he told Jack he believed he could "do more this way". Unfortunately he had no way of realising how many rules and restrictions he would have to abide by in his ascended form, which Oma apparently thought to leave out during her Ascension Sales Pitch .
What she said was "with great power comes great responsiblity". I for one don't recall her saying "with great power comes more restrictions than you would ever want to have in this lifetime or the next." Even Daniel didn't seem happy that he couldn't help Jack more in "Abyss" or "Full Circle". Anubis's threat to destroy Abydos was simply the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back.
re Daniel and Teal'c:
It's great to see them together in scenes, but what did Daniel mean when he said he finally felt like he belonged to something important? Excuse me? Exactly what were those first five years about then?
re Teal'c:
Hey, he had a right to be depressed. I would be too if I thought I was no longer capable of the strength/endurance that I was accustomed to my whole life. I mean let's face it, the ol pride is going to take a few blows in this situation whether he would ever admit to it or not. I'm just glad he realised that he still "had it"

very upsetting. but anyway, that should work for you...
Im back for my usual summary and thoughts on the episodes so be prepared for plenty of spoilers! Its also very long cause I have a lot to say ![]()
Anyway, I didnt think I would like this episode since I thought it was going to be based around Tealc and Jaffa which arent my favourite storylines. Even though it IS based around the Jaffa and Teal'c, it also touched upon many things - consequences and continuality from previous episodes and in some sense closure. All in all an excellent episodes mainly because it was a continuation from previous episodes.
We learned about the consequences of going against Anubis (Previous 3 episodes this season). Baal is now in control of the whole alliance of System Lords, which ironically, is what they tried to prevent in the previous seasons. I would assume that now Lord Yu is disabled due to his mental disability.
They've also incorporated Daniel's ascension into the storyline. Continued from the previous seasons (10 Cure and 19 The Changlings) and Daniel's involvement in it all. First, I want to mention Daniels descension. Again, they asked why Daniel descended. We have always assummed that Oma forced him to descend due to his previous actions at the end of last season. But Daniel asked himself whether he chose it himself and we have getting more prove of that. He ascended because he thought he 'could do more this way' (and to a lesser extent to fit in), and ultimately found out he could do nothing. The end of the episode shows that he realise being with Sg1 is where he wanted and should be.
Daniel's have regained most of his memory surprisingly. And with this episode he started remember things during his ascension which means that his memory loss is a side-effect of some sort more than something that was forbidden. This is interesting cause as more his remembers, whatever he learnt during ascension would be very helpful as proven in this episode itself.
We always knew that the drug Tritonin (spelling?) was too perfect. Its effects are passive than active (unlike a simbiote). You have longer life span and protection from many dieases, but it does not heal - so no regeneration at all. Also as Tealc have mentioned, Tritonin only gives a lesser extent heighten strength and senses.
The storyline itself was good although the way Tealc regained his confidence is very cliche. Although I doubt there is a better way of doing it.
Some Notes:
- Jack and Daniel Pep talk (not peppy enough?)
- Alliance of the System Lords
- Daniel starting to remember his ascended life
- Daniel and Teal'c bonding moments (so Daniel is replacing Jonas)
- Tritonin is passive
well you warned didn't you that it would be long! If i ever have to to do an anaylisis(spelling) i'll contact you first for a prep talk!!!!!! thanks LIZIE for the fulcontent website ill try it out now
no problem, glad i could help a fellow cable starved/SG-1 starved person...i really thought this ep was a good one. i am glad they are showing teal'c in a more human light, it makes the character easier to identify with. and it also shows off c.j.'s acting skills!!

Not to nitpick your not nitpicking....but why should cycles be a mystery? All you have to do is draw a circle on the ground and put a stick in the middle to get a sun dial. Then calculate the time the sun moves from one position to another (like from 1'oclock to 2'oclock)...then....look at the position of the sun in the sky. if it is nearing the horizon on a decent.....and it takes (approximately x-amount of minutes to move)...you can very safely calculate (in human terms of an hour) how long it will take to set. Besides....all he had to do was read the script. |
it was a good epsoide...... I wonder if the sgc is going to salave any of the parts from the hatack that crashed....
I MISSED THAT EPISODE!!!!
About the time thing, i reckon jack just saw that the sun was low and took an educated guess.
I wonder how many rounds that Jaffa that made it into the SGC took, probably quite a few.
[QUOTE]Besides, maybe he didn't know that days are different lengths on different planets and it was just a lucky guess?
[QUOTE]
Even the planets in our solor system have different day lengths and Jack is an amateur astrologer, of course he knew that already.
Every field soldier worth his salt knows how to guessimate time passage by sun position, it would be no stretch to use both to guess time remaining until sundown.

Although i thought this episode was ok, i dont think it is as good as some people have said it is. I think i just missed RDA, i have this habbit of blinking and i think i must have missed him.
I liked the bonding between Daniel and Teal'c, and that we got to see the more "human" side to Teal'c in this ep.
I liked that we got to see more of the father son relationship between Teal'c and Rya'c. We saw just how much Rya'c looks up to his dad, like he sees him as his hero and indestructable.
I also liked the bit where Teal'c asks Jack to look after Rya'c if anything was to happen to him on the mission, although i'm wondering why he wouldnt have wanted B still making sure Rya'c is ok, B is his mentor after all. I guess he thought that he was dead or dying from lack of tretonin.
It was nice to see that Daniel is still struggling with some aspects of his memory, because his memory of before he assended just seems to have come back to him a bit to quickly for my liking.
Well the memory thing can be explained, don't forget that these sort of shows span weeks or a month since they're last encounter in the episode with Jack being abducted and cloned, so that would have trigure some more memories to come flooding back to him as he re reads mission reports and continues his present missions.
I was thinking that about the memory thing, but then again we saw Teal'c get injured and then suddenly well again. There had to be a good couple of months in there that we didn't get to see.
It was and ok episode. The blonde jaffa bloke was a bit wiggy if you ask me. Didn't miss Jack at all, thought he was in it a fair amount, however there wasn't many of his pithy little quips which made it feel like he wasn't around so much. Actually one of my complaints about O'Neill is that they sometimes get so caught up with writing him something dry and sarcastic to say that they forget that he's got this deadly serious side too. They do that with the dumbness of him too. he's not dumb, he's really smart but he just likes to pretend he is to shut Carter up from time to time!
I liked the Teal'c and Daniel bonding too. I think it's been a long time coming. I always felt that neither Sam or Daniel have ever formed any sort of relationship with Teal'c. It's always been Daniel and Jack, Sam and Jack, Teal'c and Jack, Sam and Daniel. This is probably one of the more beneficial side effects of RDA's reduced time.
I also liked the fact that we got some sort of closure on the whole ascension/descension thing with Daniel.
Lastly, and yeah this is a really shallow thing to notice but, I swear Amanda Tapping had a cold when they filmed this episode. She sounds kind of stuffed up and her nose is all red bless her!
I thought jack was cold and serious in that episowhen he was waiting for the moment to shoot, if i was him i would have taken out that blondey straight away as soon as the attack started, but it had to be handled by teal'c obviously.

I thought that ep was my least fav so far in new season as i thought fire fight was a let down. But still enjoyable to see some action.
I read spoilers of this episode in a magazine before season 7 started, and to tell you the truth, it sounded like it was going to be a really crap one but it suprised me when I watched it. It deifinately wasn't the best episode so far this season, but I actually quite liked it. The whole Daniel/Teal'c thing at the beginning was the best part for me. Any episode with bonding, emotions, etc I normally like. Action packed ones are good too but there wasn't really much of that either, just Jack lying around while Teal'c got whipped!

I just re-watched the episode on channel four yesterday and I love this episode alot more than when I first viewed it.
I loved the bit between Teal'c and Bra'tac when they are in the tent and Bra'tac is worried about Tealc;
Teal'c: "..Because I let you win old man......."
Bra'tac: "Better, much better"
I love that little bit so much that it really just made the episode. I don't know why that little scene did but you had a warm feeling when the two old friends help each other or seem to rekindle thier strong relationship- you know what I mean, or am i talking gobblygook again? LOL
I had watched this episode a while ago.
Their rescue was good. The most part I want is when they wipe off an Jaffa Force using mortars. I think they took the Jaffa in complete surprise and they all attack in long range. That Sniper use by Jack was good it kills in only a single shot, he kills many on it.
In that episode Teal'c has return his Mojo, hes now his confidence back.
And the Jaffa resistance will add up its army because there are lots of prisoners free.
I was watching this ep just a few days ago.
I was still sad at the fact that Jonas had left, but this ep was good.
I was almost in tears when that blonde guy was about to kill Teal'c. Then their attention went to the mothership, & that's when the Jaffa began to attack! There was one guy (a Jaffa), & he started doing soem moves that were like some of the moves I learnt for 'ti-quon-do' (i think thats how u spell it...). I was happy then. Oh! & when Teal'c started to fight with that blonde guy, & Teal'c gave him a head butt, i was like 'Wha-hoo! Go Teal'c!'
Also, at the end, I really liked that scene between Micheal Shanks & Christopher Judge- it shows that they are really good friends, as their characters & when they aren't. The candles- how many do u think they had? I think more than 100. That scene was a nice way to finish the ep, except that last shot where you could only see the candles. (I wish they could have kept Daniel & Teal'c in the shot).
I still can't get used to Sam's new hair-do!
Where the hell does a jaffa get peroxide for their hair?
...
Anywho, I was wondering about the timeline, how long did it take Teal'c to recover from his injury and how long between this episode and when ascended Daniel was standing there just watching what was going on? My estimate would be a good 4-6 months, so why did Bra'tak still have tretonin just before the time of their rescue? Teal'c has mentioned before that he has tretonin everyday, surely Bra'tak wouldn't have been carrying enough tretonin to last that long and that the guards never searched and confiscated it off him either...
I didn't get which movie Carter was talking about until a friend told me it was Signs (I still haven't seen that movie).
I guess the only burning question now is what colour jello does Daniel eat? Teal'c - green (even though he didn't like it), Carter - blue, O'Neill - Red.
I found the ending a little too convenient. All the jaffa decided to join the jaffa rebelion? These jaffa were there in the first place because they refused to serve another god, sticking to their beliefs and willing to be worked to death because of them. Why the sudden massive change of heart?
Love this episode- great team moments balanced with action. One of the best Teal'c centred eps!
Ok, I think I'm missing something. This gate had an energy shield around it like the Iris on the Earth gate. They needed to send a signal to turn off the shield like we have to send a signal to turn off the Iris. Now, all we had to do was look at the signal that Bra'tac sent when he opened the gate to the Alpha site. Then once we knew the signal, we had a way to shut down the shield.
Ok, the GDO's are radio transmitters. They don't transmit unidirectionally because we've seen them in various positions while using the GDO's. So, they must transmit in all directions, part of which goes through the gate.
Now, it's been said that it's common knowledge for the Goa'uld that Earth has an Iris and a code is needed to open it. Sooooooo.. why don't the Goa'uld do the same thing that we did with the prison planet? I mean shoot, we go to Goa'uld controlled planets all the time. All they need is an itty-bitty device that records radio signals and they'd all of a sudden have a record of the GDO transmission.
If we could do it, they could do it too....
Great Episode full of action.
Question the jaffa who is in charge of the camp if you look closely you will see he is wearing the same armor as Bratac/Apophis did in the flashback episode in early season 5, Was it?
this is the first episode of sg-1 that i ever saw and i thought it had an interesting plot
Damn Prometheus....a very hard episode to watch for a new person to Stargate. To many hidden meanings and layers to get the full gist. You still understood it all? That Daniel had been ascended and that he memory had been blocked?
Loved the action sequence at the end, and I enjoyed the changes that Teal'c has had to go through since losing Junior. Good to see T back to his best.
I liked this one quite a bit, had a lot of action and i loved how Jack & team hung out up there and picked off the Jaffa that held everyone prisoner. Nice to see Rya'c again too, and alsways good to see Bra'tac. I didn't get what system lord that complex was, was it Baal, that comes to mind but i dont remeber anything about who owned those Jaffa.
Well you can just type "stargate *insert episode name* transcripts" into google and youll come up with a few links but the first few always take you to gateworld. They have them all but just go via google its quick and easy to find.
Stargate wiki is what I use.
You can also use the following:

I like the beginning in this episode a lot when the jaffa arrives before the iris is closed and Teal'c has a surprised look in his face but he doesn't look down to his wound. I like that for some reason and how they have portrayed the burn with the smoke.
This was a great episode because it dealt with the changed states of two major characters. Daniel's state after de-ascension and Teal'c's state without a symbiote. I liked the ending a lot too. It shows the two characters bond well.
The action was good too but I especially like the beginning and the times where Daniel and Teal'c are in a room meditating and talking.
Only regret in a small detail about the hundred candles burning at the end. The seer volume of them seems a bit ridiculous.
Here is a question for all you die hard SG1 fans: About 20 minutes or so in this episode, Carter and Daniel are at the central computer accessing info regarding a coded energy signal recorded at the Alpha site. Any ideas as to what operating system they are using as I would love to have it. My thoughts are that it is Linux with some variation of Sawfish or Fluxbox Window manager but I would love to hear what you think.
