Plagued by terrifying nightmares, Teyla begins to recall a time when she and her father were captured by the Wraith and subjected to disturbing experiments.

(This topic is for people who have seen the episode to discuss it. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read this topic.)
This episode was good. It got into Teyla's shocking abilities to sense the Wraith. We also learn that the ability to sense was a mistake by the Wraith as they were doing experiments on humans to learn from them. Another shocking evidence is how the Ancients CREATED the wraith. Of course it was accident, this happen by experimenting with the Wraith bug as seen in 1.04.
When Teyla went wild during hypnosis, I said to myself, now is a good time to have a zat. It would have been better if they brang them. In this episode she went wild like when a Goa'uld takes over your body.
Another thing I wonder, how come McKay wears the black "military" coat instead of his beige one?
Seeing Kavanagh again complaining was great, even though this time, McKay actually agreed with him and hated to agree with him.
This is building up great for the finale, can't wait till next Monday.
the start of this episode kinda bugged me.
and it looked like above Sheppards bed there was a poster...isnt that another personal item?
i think that they should have been able to bring more than one item with them...its kinda sad if they werent allowed to.
hey, how come sheppard got a double bed while Ford has a single bed?
it seemed Ford has cramped quaters while Sheppard got good ones.
This was a good episode.
The information contained within, however, I think is significant. First off, its great news for Atlantis. Without any defences or any way to power them, Atlantis was target practice, however if the Wraith want to connect to Earth then they wont come in and destroy the entire city. This gives Atlantis a (small) fighting chance.
We also finally get to see some Wraith technology showing they are just slightly more advanced than we previously thought. But not much so.
Their psychic powers are, however, concerning. Their ability to go through the psychic network and go into another persons body creates a much more powerful enemy than before. They all seem to have individual personalities but they share information but apparently they can limit what information they share.
We also learned that they can extract knowledge from a person by feeding on them. Thus, any wraith feeding on any member of Atlantis would be quite devestating - the person could simply "switch bodies" with another wraith, or diseminate the information gained throughout the entire network.
Also, it seems that they were quite advanced when it comes to genetic manipulation, and usually if your so advanced in one area...your pretty advanced in another.
Though it is slightly encouraging - Teyla, when approaching the Wraith ship, was able to get in as if she were a wraith. Perhaps this would allow her to use Wraith technologies in the same way Sheppard uses ancient technologies? Not only this, but with enough mental conditioning she could glean much information off of the Wraith.
However, the Wraith were able to extract at least some of Teylas knowledge (thus, how they got to the Alpha site). Depending on how much they extracted, they could know command codes, strategies employed by Atlantis, etc etc which obviously would not fare well for SGA.
Interesting ep!
Oh, well thats slightly encouraging.
One thing I'm worrying about though is that, at first they made the Wraith seem very weak and unable to do anything. Now, as we learn more, it seems they are going the other way - the Wraith seem to have superpowers and defeating them is near impossible - they are uberpsychic with technologies that can't be stopped.
I wonder how TPTB are going to handle it...
I so expected this ep to be a complete flop and based around solving teylers mental issues but it was sooo much better.... Very suspenseful how we had to keep guessing what they had found in the lab and what teyler could do with her "wraith" heritage. The thing i really dont get is why the wraith just dont fly to our galaxy....I would imagine that they had the technology to do so.... even the asguard we can fly to pegasus with the asguard technology...i cant see y the wraith.
Another issue that i'm still having with the storyline is why the ancients didnt stay in Pegasus and keep building more cities with the shields atlantis had or just staying in atlantis since the shields should theoretically hold against any wraith seige.
My guess is...when the Female Wraith extracted the knowledge from Col Sumner about the existance of Earth and it's population. She wasn't able to get the eight symbol address needed to go there,by Stargate or Spaceship.Either Col Sumner never gave it to her or he wasn't required to know the symbols,so hence she could not pass it on to the others before she died.
They now know of Earth but not it's location which would make sense why they would want to infiltrate Atlantis rather than destroy it this time around.
They seem to be taking a long time to get to Atlantis from the Original Awakening which lead me to believe perhaps they don't have hyperdrive capability at their disposal.
I thought this was a good suspenseful episode without alot of special effects. It was first amusing and now a bit frightening that the Wraith can control Teyla's free will. I also like the psychiatrist Dr. Hightmeyer (sp?) and hope she becomes a recurring character.
One thing I'm not liking is the writing for Ford. He seems to becoming more and more a token character while guys like Bates and Zelenka are getting more important lines. The whole scene when they gated to that Wraith laboratory, Ford was just plain annoying. Maybe it's time for a Ford-centered episode.
Was a pretty cool episode, not sure if it completely leads us up to the next episode though, we'll have to see how well it's connected.
wickid episode, luved it!! i like'd the bit at end, it really sets up for the final!!!!! and was it just me or did at the start in the control room was that Carter on the console in the back??
Fair episode...
Don't have much to say about it really, nice buildup to a finale though.
I'm really enjoying McKay's and Zelenka's (is that the name?) antics.
Teyla's legs are so toned, they make me so jealous!
she looks so great in pants.
the episode started slow and it seemed to go over the same thing which i didn't like.
I wonder if Kate Heightmeyer took her own chairs because they look really cool.
Im glad Teyla doesn't have the curly...well i guess it was actually wavy, hair anymore and it looks nice on her this new straighter hair.
Weir needs to have straight hair...the curls bug the hell out of me.
Sheppard seems to be showing a lot of caring for Teyla...and he and Weir aren't really showing any relationship signs so it does make me wonder.
The labratory was interesting and then to see Weir actually looking at information...we finally see her doing something other than giving orders, talking to people...we see her being smart! and she can translate! so cool.
"McKay, you have a little what!?"
*LOL*
yeah i was thinking of that, if they have hyperdrive then why don't they just mosy on other cause apparently they have the address. and the eigth chevron odesn't really matter all that much cause she would have already had it from sumner. So never mind all that i guess that it would be fair to assume that the Wraith's hyperdrive is s*** and is a lot easier to get to earth through the stargate which provides another problem. If they could get the stargate intact and with that thing, how would they get past the iris?
LOL yeah Ford is getting screwed, one of my frends told me taht he won't be a main character next season
even if they had the hyperdrive equivalent of the asgard, how far is Pegasus from the Milky Way as compared to how far the Milky Way is from the Asgard home galaxy (dun remember the name
)
that those connecting through teyla was really cool, shes all searching through her mind then all of a sudden "UR GONNA DIE BITCH!" *shock* "omg, what happened?" haha kinda wierd, but fun...
can't wait till the season finale it looks awesome
she didn't actually say that word though...she said you're all going to die.
i think this episode could have possibly been a 2 parter...with so many things going on...i would have liked to have seen more of the labratory.
I thought the episode was really good. Looking forward to the finale
I especially like how their showing the wraith as a more unbeatable enemy. It would have been a lame storyline to have humans beat them so easily and yet the wraith beat the ancients. (Although we have yet to see in the next two upcomming episodes)
I think the Wraith are coming to Atlantis, because need the coordinates to the Milky Way galaxy. If they tried to fly randomly to galaxy, they might never find Earth. It's like searching for a "needle in a haystack of infinite size", as Thor would have said. So, they will probably use Atlantis to dial Earth and send a probe, and the probe will send back the exact location of Earth. Then, the Wraith will fly to the Milky Way and feast. That my take on the situation.
P.S. Great Episode!
well there ya go, some good answers by Ted_Simple.
i'm wondering just how long the ancients were in the pegasus galaxy and how long they could live before they went and ascended.
not a bad episode.... the experiments were a supprise to me.... and the fact that the ancients might have created the wraith... the fact that the wraith wanted the atlantis gate wasent a supprise..
if they got it i wounder what will happen.... will they be able to use the "GDO" to open the iris..? just fly straight through itand go splat on the other side? but with the SGC they can blow it up if needed so nothing could really happen...
Where does Teyla 'superpowers' come from . .. And I lvove teyla even more . not often that you see Black woman in Scifi characters used the way they should be .
Apparently not.
The show was good, I was filled with suspense as I was waiting to see Teyla connecting to the Wraith. I liked the scene where she turned all bad, that was good. Now I'm thrilled and can't wait to see the Season Finale!!! I'm so anxious now.. as all of you are.
It was good learning about Wraith's physiology. At least we got somewhere to start on knowing where did the Wraith come from. The part when they were on the planet that Teyla wanted to go, was interesting. The best part was when Ford tried to crack up a joke but ended up not being funny, and said that he could make fun of me but not likewise lol.
First timer here.
There is alot of information in this ep.
as far as the Wraith and whats taking them so long to show up. They are all just waking up, ALL OF Them. They need to feed and get there fleet up to speed. I find it hard to belive that the Wraith only have 3 ships.
The good news for us, If we can holed the Wraith in Pegasus they starve to death.
the bad news, They eat everthing in pegasus first.
if they can't get the atlantis gate would they make it to Earth by ship in time?
my 2 cents ![]()
BTY if the Ancients did make the Wraith that would make the Wraith the childern of the Ancients. Now would the Ancients kill off there childern or just ascend?
or by the time the Ancients new what was happening was it to late to stop it?
if u saw the ep.. "before i sleep" u would of saw that the wraith attacked atlantis when the ancients were leaving for earth... so they did fight each other... but i believed they said that one on one the ancients could beat the wraith but in a big assault the wraith would win... if i am correct... (a bit like the tok'ra's methods)
it's not a matter of whether or not thy could destroy them...
This has been said a few times...but didn't the ancients have this guideline where they would not interefere with other cultures...even if they were about to die?
Daniel Jackson basically said the worst thing about being ascended was knowing you could do something to help others but knowing you could not.
But didn't the ancients interfere in the first place by seeding new life into a galaxy? oh though it is a lot different.
yeah thats what i was gonna say lol
they said plenty of times in sg-1 that the acended ancients had protocols they all agreed to adhere to one of which was non-interference when it comes to the issues of coporials. if they did make the wraith then that would be before they ascended and decided on this code of conduct which would make what they did before out of their hands, if they couldn't deal with it before then they can't do s*** about it now
and that whole going to earth is kinda messed cause it would take a while to get there by ship and like someone said earlier, they're gonna stop off and eat the only problem with that is that there is nothing between galaxies...jack squat nuttin. those huge chambers with "food" might last them for a while but probably woudln't work out too well cause since most or all of them have awoken, they'd be damned hungry. so either they go back to sleep or send a small group. Sending a dart through the gate wouldn't work either considering the fact that earth's gate is in a ex-nuclear silo way below ground
nice and complicated, the way i like it lol
Ok! I guess the wraith hiveships are capable of traveling to the Milkyway galaxy. Considering they can hibernate and store food, time shouldn?t be a reason why they couldn?t.
She did not extract info, she simply asked him and he didn?t keep his poker face when she asked how many lived on Earth. So my guess is that they want Atlantis, so that they can find out where Earth is and/or to get a hold of the gate.
(But do they know that this is the only gate capable of dialing Earth. If they did it should be feasible to calculate the galaxy position? don?t think they know though)
And we have seen that the wraiths have been ?above? humans? Not needing to explain them selves. So Teylas ability must have taken them by surprise?"UR GONNA DIE BITCH!" not very smart. Instead he could have just kept quiet and extracted as much intel as possible.
The ancients didn?t create the wraith they evolved on their own possible with some help. If the wraith are this advanced after 10000 years?how fast is their technology evolving or do they steel?!
The ancients seeded the worlds, but that doesn?t imply that after they ascended they should keep interfering. An ancient and an ascended is not exactly the same.
a very interesting episode, teyla is part wraith, her ability to sense the wraith is finally explained as a bleedoff of whatever mental barriers shes developed to block out the entire wraith physic network, that large beam going from the village into the sky in "letters from peg" is actually the wraith tagging a planet, perhaps to say that that feeding ground offers no resistence or that the "crop" is ready so the "supply ships" that are tagging along will collect them
and we learn more about the wraith and have a possible orgins for them, an agent introduced into a world that had those bugs instead of starting the new human life its absorbed completely by the bugs who begin to transform into what we see them as today(i wonder if they have any relation to the bugs in sg1 "bane"), but it does puzzle me as to how they could have risen to a point as to challenge the ancients, maybe after seeding the worlds in peg, the ancients in atlantis put themselves in stasis so that they could see the end result, only to come out and find that one of their worlds had become the wraith instead(in keeping with them landing on a dark world and awakening a new enemy), and that exploration team being tortured and life suked to the point that the wraith's physic abilities could gleem a small understanding of some advance techs to become the threat that they are when combined with their numbers but still remaining weak enough that the expedition team can handle them(after the experience they have from fighting the goa'uld) if they come one at a time
and the desperation of the wraith to find a new feeding ground, they know they are dying and can not sustain themselves, so now they need to find a foothold in our galaxy, i'm glad they only know about earth having a larger population and not that the whole milky way is full of life
anyway, just my 2 cents
Hmm.. A decent episode, not half as bad as I expected it to be.
Teyla's finally got some character depth! not much, there's still a lot of work to be done... but we finally get to see something. I'm still bothered with her not acting alien-ish at all, but oh, well, can't get anything.
How come Weir not only can read Ancient- (she was a part of SGC for 3 months - and I daresay not quite a lot afterwards they were already of to Pegasus,) - when did she have the time to learn a language it took Daniel years to figure out - and know it in so much depth that she cxan recognise Wraith is a derivative of it?! And rtead Wraith, I mean... Unless it's almost exactly the same language, or very very very similar like Russian and Polish or something, this can't be done overnight. Oh, well.
Heaps of info in this ep, although i didnt really like it (I guess i have to stray from the general consensus that it was great) because not much happened. By that I mean that there is a problem with the impending wraith attack and they have done very little to reslve it. Obviously this is being left for a huge season ending which i am really excited for. The episode was all about Teyla which i guess was neccessary as she has done NOTHING so far.
I liked the bit where it was explained that the wraith originated from ancients. It justified why they resemble humans so closely. Am i the only one who has a problem with aliens in all sci-fi resembling humans - two arms, two legs and slightly distorted facial features??
The other thing this information explains is why the ancients hadnt been prepared for an attack from the wraith. They had evolved in the middle of one of their 'safe' plannets. This makes their defeat by the wraith seem SLIGHTLY more believeable.
Also, the whole psychic connection, did that remind anyone of the Borg?
Didn't hate Weir in this episode for some reason, first time for everything.
McKay and Zelenka are hilarious.. along with Carson they r the best characters.
i think they had a translation program with them to read ancient... otherwise there is no point in going there if everything is unreadable...
i wounder if in the seasons to come... if any they have an epidsode where they find out where the wraith homeworld is ![]()
but in saying they havent done anything to stop the attack... i would believe they find a ZPM somewhere because Maj Sheppard is able to use the chair.. (u can tell by the picture on the episode list)
Weir knows Latin and isn't Ancient close to Latin...like it shares some of the same strands?
also, she would have studied some of the ancient language.
And I found Weir slightly...too out there this episode
If the Wraith were created accidently by the Ancients, you also have to think about how the Wraith got their massive ships etc?
Maybe the Wraith and Ancients were allies originally, and the Wraith turned on the Ancients? Maybe the Wraith were working for this "unknown enemy", in exchange for technology? Whatever the case, it' sure to be a great season finale, and season 2.
maybe they either had the nowledge from the humans they original beings bonded with? maybe they stole it from either the aincients or another race... just like the goa'uld...
i wounder what would happen if the goa'uld and the wraiths met each other... bloodshed or friendship... or maybe a goa'uld wraith...
The Wraith would have to die at some stage...they can't live forever.
but over hundreds of years the planets would gain more life wouldn't they...
maybe they started going too far with the culling and they bred too much and thats why they now need Earth
I have one favourite bit where Teyla under the influence of a Wraith, says in an evil sly Wraith-like voice --
"You're all so pathetic"
Teyla as a wraith ??oooo creepy.
This EP was very cool. But do they have to keep giving away top secret info about Atlantis and there operations. You think they would be getting smarter! LOL
It would really suck if the wraith got through to Earth but I?m sure the Asgard would crush them.
Hope the Atlantis Team prevails in "The Siege"![]()
i got a simple theory..
i believe taht the one of the wraith bug that landed on sheppard in 38 mins.. fell onto one of teh ancient and managed to sort of merge into a wraith.. sort of the best of both world...
then it has all the capability of and knowledge of the ancient... it then merge its brother bugs onto the defenceless humans... and start building weapons to dominate...
know i;m guessing that the first wraith is not a weapon speacialist so its knowledge of ancient weapons and knowledge is not complete.. therefore its less powerful tahn the ancient but they have numbers..
what you guys think ??
McKay - i got a little...
Ford - *big smile*... You got a little what? Mckay? you got a little what!!!
Great episode. Atlantis has become much better in the last few weeks. Its so much better than SG1. We finally find out what the Wraith are, just want to know how human DNA managed to merge with that of the bug. I thought they just 'sucked' the life from you, not your blood. Cant wait to see the finale. The part when Zelenka told McKay to pay up was ace, it was made much more effective by having them do it in the background.
Where did the chair come from? A whole season and they only decide to try the chair now, seemed a bit of an after thought to me. That Cavanagh still gets on my nerves. For some reason i was expecting someone to turn around and hit him.
this episode made me think.the wraith evolved after the ancients came to pegasus, there should already have been other races in pegasus, the wraith probably would have fed on some of theses races.one of these races could be as advanced or nearly as advanced as the ancients, with the wraith attacking they decided to take action but not finding a direct way of attacking the wraith they decided to take out their main food supply-humans-to do this they made the virus that would kill humans(i think the nanovirus in hot zone).what do you think
I hate clip shows even though this was blended well - didn't we just have a clip show on Atlantis? but ....where was I?
ah yes...
leadership.
i wonder if atlantis will have more clip shows like this?
they certainly did a good job with this one
That was a good EP.I realy liked that one.
But,do the wraith really think they can take down the Milky Way galixiy. They may have a advantage in tech but,the have to beat two of the four race's,us,and the jaffa.WE have MORE people.
Teyla's gift has very possibly turned into a curse. I don't know how they could regard her as anything but a security risk now because her connection with the Wraith went far beyond simple telepathy.
Her mind and body were actually being controlled by them and now that the Wraith are aware of her, couldn't they just use her at any time to get information, especially when she sleeps?
And to get a little nit-picky - why were the Wraith able to do this to her? There doesn't seem to be a precedent for other Wraiths being able to do this to each other. If anything, I would think the connection would be weaker since Teyla's Wraith DNA is minimal.
My last nit-pick with this episode - not enough Dr. Rodney McKay scenes!
Nice show, fun to watch, good music, some nice characters. But the show is already falling to Standard Crisis of the Week TV writing. Too many inconsistancies, too many things which happen just in the nick of time (whew.., heh?). I know it must be hard to write for a TV show and keep it both fresh and believable, but they do get the big bucks...
Anyway, its beats most TV fare. And my kids don't like it, which earns it two more points...!
I'm stuck on the wraith's background. How does this bug and a human just merge DNA? I think that episode with the bug is going to lead into a much bigger storyline. Could the bugs actually be sentient? Something like a Go'auld? Maybe latching onto another life form is some sort of an incubation process a la Aliens. I hope I'm wrong, though. It seems like it could parallel those movies a little too closely. Guess we'll see...
I love it I love it I Love it . A must see for Teyla fans , and John and Teyla fans alike . But great all around .
The Gift
And if you like reading reviews then read this . This person is crazy .

YOU ARE ALL GOING TO DIE !!!!!!!!
while this episode did show some dark sides and had some good entertainment it did bug me a bit.
Teyla just isnt my kind of girl.
that's how you feel .
But I see great things coming for Teyla Emmagan , maybe and hopefully in the future Teyla and crew or John and Teyla are trapped on a planet and must use a wraith dart to return home to Atlantis , maybe she's have that natural pilot thing for a dart like John with the puddle jumper . just a though anyway .
Man did ya see the way she threw Ford like a rag doll .
I have been highly enjoying the fight scenes as they bring something to the show and it's good to see them training and learning new things and finding new ways which they could defend themselves from an enemy.
But also it is very good exercise.
And to think they didn't make those fighting techniques up...
It's good to see that they are researching things and adding them to the show
I kinda was this coming from the begining how did she sence the wraith? She must have eithere had some gene or wraith DNA but aftert the intro to this ep. its obvius it was cool to wache talya turn wraith then back it shows good acting skills on her part to be able to chang like that.
It said at the beginning of the epsiode that the Wraith experimented on Teyla and her father and that Wraith DNA was inserted into her own genetic code.
