Jack seemed to like her just fine. And she was a nice person. Not quite as hot as Sam, but she would have been a good wife for Jack. Plus he plans on going back to her when he retires.

I was wondering, at the end when Jack was about to return to Earth. When Laira put her hands on her stomach, was she insinuating that she was pregnant at that time?

I thought this was a great episode for many reasons: 1. it showed that Samantha has feelings for Jack, 2. it showed us a new side of Jack (mellow, calm, willing to settle down and start a family and let go of his previous Stargate life), 3. It showed how Teal'c was willing to die to bring Jack back sooner rather than later (when a star ship would have picked Jack up the next year), 4. it showed that Daniel Jackson was the only one with half a brain who clearly understood why Jack wasn't absolutely thrilled with their coming to "rescue" him.

All of that was surprising to me, but I'm a new Stargate fan and haven't seen all the episodes yet. The episode reminded me slightly of a Star Trek Next Generation ep where Piccard lived a lifetime on a quiet, planet in the past (similar to Edora), and was happily married with children, and then in the end he woke up back on the Enterprise and went back to his original life. He wasn't real happy either cuz he had come to love his life there on the other planet.

I love the idea of giving up your whole way of life and starting completely new like Jack did in this episode. It's intriguing, and I like the way they left it open for Laira to have a baby, which will hopefully lead to a new episode about that. I think she was hoping that she was pregnant the way she held her belly. Maybe Jack will go back to the planet for some reason in the near future and find that he has a little kid there. Could prove to be very interesting! tongue.gif

Yeah, Jack did admit to Laira that part of him would never forget his old life, but he did also tell her that he wasn't happy to leave and asked her to come with him. Do you think he really meant it? He doesn't seem like the kind of guy to offer something that big and life changing unless he really meant it. I don't know for sure.

Teal'C is awesome. I wish I had a friend like that! It wouldn't hurt to have those big muscles as your friend, either! He would take care of some jerk-off bosses I've had! tongue.gif

i love the way stargate experiment with jack and sams emotians not being nasty to danny or tealc or jonas but to me sam and jack have the most intresting past , most intresting emotians and the most intresting feelings i think knowing a bit of the characters background can really help a actor play the character. tongue.gif

This episode is another one that really covers too much for a single 40 minute episode. When it ended up being complete I understand that the writers would really liked to have make this into a 2 parter. This is primarily because they felt that O'Neill just would not have given up that easily. While he likely would have settled down at some point, they felt that he would have tried for longer to find the Stargate and would have liked to be able to show that.

In terms of Laira holding her arms over her stomach, the idea was that she could be pregnant with O'Neill's child. RDA has commented that if this were ever to be brought back into the plot lines, he would like for it to be a girl as O'Neill already had a son. However, my understanding from reading writer interviews is that, at least as of when initial planning for season 7 was being done, there were no plans to bring back this story line. A major part of this decision was apparently that a lot of fans wrote in very much against the O'Neill-Laira thing.

You'll also notice in the season 4 episode 2010, Jack has retired to his cabin in Minnesota and has not gone back to Edora to be with Laria, so they obviously decided not to go with that idea.

In reference to this ST:TNG episode, what happened was that the Enterprise picked up an alien artifact and it passed to Picard the memories of another person who had lived on that planet. The lifetime that he experienced there actually was only a few minutes of time on the Enterprise, so it's not quite the same situation. Picard simply had someone else's memories planted in his head. O'Neill really was trapped on Edora for three months.

I absolutely agree....

In fact it's about more than Daniel having "half a brain"...after all, he was the one who was living on Abydos for a year before Jack came through the wormhole to drag him back to Earth....talk about walking a mile in someone else's shoes....

The meteor shower was really cool. Sometimes I wish that they had more budget for cool effects like this one. I'm sure with more money they could've elaborated much further than they did.

I was wondering though, how come Jack gave up on the hope of going back so easily? I mean, it did seem pretty hopeless to try to dig up the stargate especially with most of population unavailable. However, he knew that the Tok'ra would help. Thor wouldn't give up on him either. Heck, even the Tollans wouldn't have minded paying back some favors. If I were him I wouldn't have kicked back as far as he did back there.

I found Laira to be attractive and nice as well. She was very hospitable and she was among the few who managed to get to the good side of Jack quickly. Don't forget also that she's the one who helped SG-1 convince her people to go through the stargate. I liked her especially when she hushed that other idiot guy in her house and told O'neill that he's welcome there.

Nevertheless, I think that Teal'c was the star of this episode regardless of the little airtime he had. The notion that he was very close to die just to be able to save his friend months earlier than the tok'ra makes you wonder how did he ever serve under a Goa'uld!

Overall, a nice episode with touching moments.

for all the sam/jack fans out there, he did go back to the SGC. It was not for the paycheck, since he was originally retired. He could have stayed and become the official diplomat for the planet, but he didn't.

that aside, michele (michelle?) greene has certainly blossomed since her days as the mousy attorney on la law.

as the apparent spiritual or cultural leader of her people, laira set a great example for the edorans to follow in welcoming the refugee jack in spite of them blaming him for having lost two thirds of their community

and she didn't have to tell jack about what she heard on the radio. she could have simply left it in the swamp with his clothes and teal'c might have suffocated trying to dig out and jack would have never known.

so while some shippers may say boo to laira, I think this character deserves more than that. after all, it would take a heck of a woman to distract jack. anise couldn't do it.

also, the thread of jack being a simple guy with simple tastes runs through the whole series, but is probably best illustrated here.

I haven't seen all the shows, and I'm seeing them mostly out of sequence, so I'm getting a picasso view of the subplot lines, but it seems like because of the sam & jack thing the writers have had to skirt really sensitive (heart wrenching) character development episodes like this one in favor of light-hearted flirting and banter between them, which even though I'm a shipper, I think is a shame.

this was a good ep, even though it hurt to watch.

Totally agree!

Personally, I hated Laira - frankly coz she got Jack - but I think had Sam and him been stuck on Edora - thinking that they would never get home, I'm sure they would have acclompished more in those 3 months...

Then again, maybe Jack didn't like Carter as much as she did at this time. He sure changed a few eps down the line - and don't even get me started on season 4! smile.gif

Oh and he SO WANTED to go back - did you notice how frikken happy he was to realise that he could go home??? I don't think I've ever seen him that happy, but then he realises that he's being insensitive to Laira's feelings and wants to make her feel better so he says,
"I'll come back." (Yeah right!) laugh.gif

Man, the look on Carter's face at the end, when they showed a close up on her, when Jack went over to Laira....it looked like someone had kicked her in the stomach. Boy, do I know how she feels, unfortunately. I understand Jack caring for that lady, but I thought it was kind of insensitive and rude to just ignore Carter and walk over to Laira. He must've been totally clueless to Sam's feelings at this point.

When I watched this episode I came to notice something I did not expect. Laira clutching her stomach and looking quietly pleased with herself, as if she were pregnant. Shock horror because when later consulting my season companion, I read that they are planning to find some excuse to visit the planet again. This means that if they do then Jack will almost certainly leave and sg-1 will be no more. Later in the rumour mill I heard that this could be a possible ending to Stargate where they all go their seperate ways. I think this would be a disaster because then everyone would be wondering what if?

Another thing that has been bugging me is that although Jack and Sam have declared their love for each other they are pursuing other love interests, For Example Sam and Orlin in Ascension. Jack was surprised that Sam had a date but was not the slightest bit Jealous??!!!!

What is going on? If I had just told someone that I loved someone and they went off with some one else, I think that I would show a bit of emotion, don't you???
