Season 3, Episode 21 - Crystal Skull
Original Air Date: March 3, 2000

Daniel Jackson becomes intrigued when the video transmission from the MALP reveals a huge Mayan pyramid with a glowing crystal skull in its center. He tells the rest of SG-1 and General Hammond that the skull appears to be identical to one his grandfather, Nicholas Ballard, found in Belize in 1971.

Is this the episode where Sam is the first to fall and the last to get up? If so, I don't like what the writers did there. Sam should be strong, not weak.

I believe this is the first time we see someone from Daniel's family. We already know about everyone else's family, but now we know Daniel has a grandfather (was it really? i was thinking uncle).

This one was so good that is showed how well Jack knew Daniel. When Daniels grandfather was relating the info and Jack said one of his usual smart alec comments and Daniel says "Jack, don't be an ass" and Jack says "Daniel?" Classic!!!!

since i am from mexico i am very annoyed that i haven't seen this episode as i love the aztecs and i can't wait to see it, even though i haven't seen it, it seems good to see that the writers of the show haven't compleatly stuck to the egyptians and considered cultures from their side of the atlantic!

I think Dr. Jackson's past is very strange, I mean, he was adopted when he was a baby, right? How does he knows about his grandfather? Is he related to his biological family? dry.gif

Someday will we know more about his past?

They have no plans to finish it off, but there are no plans for them to do so as of now sad.gif

I would like to see Nick tell us more about those aliens.

Although this episode had some quite funny bits I actually found it quite sad.

Daniel's parents died when he was 8 and Nick wouldnt take him becuase he was too busy with his own archeology career so little Danny had to go into foster homes.

How bad must that have felt. To loose your parents then be rejected by your only living relative?

the skull itself was pretty cool. the episode had a good plot in my opinion, and it waskinda funny, too. i loved when daniel was watching that other scientist (what was his name- rothman?), but his best line came when he was following sam and jack.

"What happened to working through the night? I'd do it for you."

I think he was about 8 or 9. At least that is the impression I got from the flashbacks he had in "Gameskeeper". He saw them die while setting up a museum display which collapsed on them. Hmmmm! Evidently, he is at least a third generation archealogist.

This is one of the first episodes I popped into the ol' dvd player when I got my new box set, and one of the first things that impressed me were the CGI improvements in the Cave where they found the skull.

Another pleasant surprise were the little scenes that showed Daniel how much he was missed/appreciated. I was especially struck by the scene in Hammond's office when his granddaughter invited Hammand to her school play and he said he might miss it because a friend had gone missing and they were trying to find him.

Hammond always refers to Daniel as Doctor Jackson, in fact I think he's the only one who does, so its not always apparent that he considers Daniel a "friend". From the look on Daniel's face when he heard it I think he was surprised too.
