Why'd it bore you, I thought it was wicked seeing tecnology, and the use of the other gate, also this one made me think that, why didn't the ancients incorporate a 1471 service into the stargate, so they would know who just called or what the last call made was, wouldn't that be soooo cool, cause then they could know when some race that is not deadly is trying to contact them!

1471??? Guess you had to be there. Or is it like some redial or something?!?!? If it is, then you'd think there would be someway to do that on a stargate.
But, I didn't think the episode boring, perhaps not one of the best, but not boring. Was a bit easy though, I mean controlling the weather is fine, but take away the device why would the weather turn bad, I mean NO WEATHER is CONSTANTLY bad, that's what makes it weather - good to bad to good to bad etc... ahh sometimes I think too much I think, I must think about that sometime - arrrgghhhh.... |

I watched the ep again just now and realised that it wasn't the device that was controlling the weather - the device was controlling the moon/planetary alignment etc which in turn obviously dictates the weather - makes more sense to me know.
Wonder who invented it? That race couldn't have, they couldn't even use the gate. Our old friends the Ancients I wonder?? |

Under what circumstances would you propose a race STOP developing tech? I can't think of any. |

When they were having a blizzard and getting all p-o-ed at SG1, I wanted to tell them that they wouldn't be so cold if they put some damn clothes on.

Got a wonderful new quote from this episode ( I think it was this one). Anyway I'll definitely be able to use it.
Teal'c: On my world it would be within my rights to dismember you. Or something like that. Said to Mayborn. I love that, I'm sure I can work it into conversation at work. |

By regulation. You 'uncover' inside a building. There are exceptions, like when you are armed, but generally, that is the rule. Yes it was probably in her pocket, those garrison caps fold well.

This isn't my favorit either, but I thought it was really good since we find out about the secret agendas of the government. |

Europe pretty much came to a technological standstill during the Dark Ages. As Daniel mentioned, scientific thought was considered antithema. The only that was developed in 800 years that I know of was the stirrup. |

We humans have always been religious to the extreme. Not that I think religion is a bad thing. I myself have deep religious beliefs. The problem is most people make things too legalistic rather than try to examine the lessons and true principals in their religion. This is how the dark ages came to be. It was thought that man should be completely reliant on God for everything. I don't disagree with this principal, but again, it was taken to the extreme and became legalistic. |

Well Madrona's weather was probably really bad since it was formed millions of years ago, and when the ancients were probably on that planet they must have left the weather device on it otherwise the humans that were transported there by either Gou'ld or the Agsard would have died when they got there.

Every time I watch a new episode, I am impressed with something newly added to the series. Numerous things about this episode were terrific:
The SG1 team demonstrated that they are honorable diplomats when they chased all over Earth to find the Touchstone. If in a similar situation, the NID team probably would have killed the spear- and bow-carrying people of Madrona when confronted at the beginning of the episode (and probably laughed about it). SG1, on the other hand, noting the goodwill of the Madronans, just stopped the attack from happening and negotiated their way out of the confrontation. The U. S. Government is notorious/famous for refusing to admit when mistakes are made. And when mistakes are made, the person who should be in charge of an investigation to determine its causes and instigators (General Hammond) is removed from the case so that it can be buried. Teal'c established his antipathy and death wish for the unscrupulous Colonel Harry Maybourne. By the way, does Maybourne remind anyone else of Oliver North? My apologies for the second post. I would like to bring up two extra points.
I am fairly certain that the climate control device had been in use so effectively for so long on Madrona that no one would have the need to make winter weight clothing.
This is off-topic, but...Speaking of the Dark Ages, has anyone seen a program called "Secrets of the Dead" with an episode purportedly dating the Dark Ages to 535-536 A.D., due to a volcanic eruption from Krakatoa? It literally cast enough ash into the atmosphere to stunt the growth of plants and trees for several years and caused the sun to be hidden by clouds, creating two years worth of nearly winter-like conditions. Now, that's dark (or dim at least). This post has been edited by sgcl librarian: Mar 19th 2004, 6:22 PM |

Your assuming that the climate control device doesn't incorporate winter into part of the planet's normal functions. I mean, the device would likely try to make the planet's weather patterns as balanced as possible and without a winter, in one form or another, it could be unhealthy for both the Madronan's and the natural life on the planet. One of the main advantages of having winter is that many diseases, particularly ones carried by animals, are killed off during this season (this effectively helps cleanse the world). Furthermore, weak animals who are a drain on the ecosystem are killed off during this season (allowing the strong to thrive). Therefore I would suspect that the Madronan's should be at least familiar with the concept of winter and would have clothing that is suited for it.
Even still, you can avoid double posting by using the "EDIT" button on the top right hand corner of your post. |
