Season 2, Episode 12 - The Tok'ra (Part Two)
Original Air Date: October 9, 1998

The Tok'ra have turned down SG-1's request for an alliance against the Goa'uld because, as Garshaw explains, the people from Earth don't offer enough rewards to justify the security breech. And, the fact that none of the humans will act as host for Selmak, a Tok'ra whose host is dying, does little to build trust.

Wicked Jacob, hes great, does anyone else dislike the Tok'ra though, I mean they just seem to hide information from us, until it is nessisary, and we tell them everything straight away!!! how un fair, we must of proved our aligence by now!!!

Interestingly I've never thought of the Tok'ra as DELIBERATELY hiding things, just that they don't come completely forward. They only say what is important to them without realising we may see things differently.

One case in point when Danny was to blow up all the System Lords and rescue the galaxy (Jacob, a Tok'ra assumes he will), but Danny wants to save one blonde chick - just a case of two people seeing the same thing in two different ways.

In case you're interested, I woulda blown the bimbo up with the rest of them, there are bigger things at stake as Jacob says.

i actually think the tokra have opened up a bit since jacob joined because of the father and daughter realationship between him and sam and plus jacob lets them know they can trust sg-1 and gen.hammond.
i think they were just hiding stuff because they wanted to be careful who they trust because they didnt want ppl like the gould trying to wipe them out.

I agree ussshorty, but to take it further perhaps just having someone (ie Jacob) in their midst that understands the psyche of humans and what is important to them (ie openness and honesty) has helped the situation along.

That and he can add to the understanding of a race that has not been ruled by the Goa'uld for the last 3000 years. Remember that virtually everyone else the Tok'ra is running into has been virtually a slave for a long period of time. It's hard to trust those people. But those on earth think and act more independantly, and Jacob brings a perspective on that which is new to them. It certainly helps.

people on earth tend to look for safe but effective plans against the gould but the tokra go straight for it and lose many lives for moving to fast so earth and jacob could teach them a thing or two.

Errr there's more to humans than 50 year old married guys with kids. I was thinking more along the lines of chiroho.

Why wouldn't he? He's a military man and needs to understand both the enemy and the ally - whichever the Tok'ra turn out to be.

O'Neill has always been a little untrustworthy of the Tok'ra - and occasionally with good reason because they don't always provide the entire story. I think that he'd be more than interested in any information that Jacob Carter could bring to the table regarding them and what they are doing - especially since he's not only a former AF general, but someone that General Hammond obviously knows and trusts.

Spoiler

Abyss (606) doesn't help with his opinion of the Tok'ra. But maybe his mistrust is foreshadowing the Tok'ra being evil? We know how his intuition always turns out to be correct.

Actually, Morg999 have a point. Selmak did look too pink and too short for the symbiotes we know of.
