I have completely changed the ranking (yes again).

Here is the new table, which is based upon actual US Air Force ranks (for all you nitpickers tongue.gif ) :

Also, I am working on a USAF ranks page, which is here.

shouldn't be the highest rank supreme commander of staff?
i mean there can be too many generals in an actual army therefore there is always one supreme general.

The 'supreme general' would be Arcady.

As for supreme commander... in the usa that would be the president and since we've only got one of those... (besdies he doesn't work at the SGC)

BTW - I hate to sound ungrateful arcady but could we change the shoulder pins graphic? I know I'm kinda being an ass but it just seems kinda large. If you look at a one sentance post and the amount of room that's taken up b/c of the pin.... sorry. Just my opinion.

why an orange circle? Is that the international sign for goa'uld fodder. oh wait thats probably more for an airman or airman basic.
I like the difference made for enlisted ranks and officer ranks, brings back memories as an air force brat.

Not understanding your military, let alone caring for it, these are all just coloured lights to me. Something tells me it (what Arcady's doing) is good, but I don't understand it.

And he gets an eagle, or is it a hawk?? Fine, he must have posted alot since I last looked tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif but my point is what happens in 12 months time (at my rate anyway) when we all get coloured birds???

He's the admin, he can trick the computer. tongue.gif The rest of us have to earn our ranks.... although that's not a great way of putting it is it?

Lol - look at it this way AOT, if I really wanted to be a pain I'd ask Arcady to turn the bars horozontal. tongue.gif But I won't do that... so maybe things'll stay as they are.

And if white doesn't work hows pink... since the backgrouds blue and all?

The number of pips was supposed to correspond to the rank. A master sgt is an E-5, so it gets 5 pips. That's why civilians were pipless.

About the bars, are they supposed to go the other way? I have to admit, I was stainding over Arcady's shoulder while he made them, so they are in their current orientation partly due to me...

They seem kind of inconsistant.

If your looking down on someones shoulder from a birds eye point of view the bars for the lesser ranks go the way they're oriented, except for the major's insigna and the eagle which would be turned in the other direction.

If you're looking just at the pins and they're turned so that the eagles head is vertically at the top than the lt.'s bars etc. should be turned the other way.

Please realize that my knowledge of this stuff is from hollywood constuming (mostly JAG episodes - and they're navy) so if anyone's actually in the miliatry don't jump down my throat if I'm wrong.

I LOVE the ranking system like this. I want to join the af after college, so I'm totally lovin' this. Maybe I can pretend to be someone powerful eventually!!!
Thanx, Arcady. You've made at least one person a happy camper today!

Maybe it's been fixed since this post, but they look fine to me. I went and checked some of my husband's old caps, and the bars for the lts & captains were vertical. The officer ranks as now posted appear they way they would if they were pinned to a flight or unit (baseball) cap. Good job! smile.gif

The new ranking is cool. I like it - even though I was demoted from almost making Major to being a Sergeant!

But I have two questions. Is there still a group called Regular Members? I used to be in that group, but am now just a "Member". Is there a change there?

Also, it used to be easier to edit posts - so that I could go back and correct my stupid spelling mistakes etc. It now seems much harder to do so. And the post automatically reports that it has been edited - you no longer have a choice. Why the changes? But more importantly, exactly how do they work? For example, you seem to only be able to edit your posts now if there are no posts after them - which makes sense. But sometimes I can't even do it when that is the case. I just want to understand better how it works.

Actually the only insignia that is wrong.. is the Silver Eagle.. The head should be pointing to the left...

http://www.defenselink.mil/pubs/almanac/al...s/officers.html

That link will show you the insignia for ALL THE RANKS in EVERY BRANCH.

Other than that all the insignias are correct... But its not a big issue...

Just figured that I'd add my bit since im active USAF. smile.gif

(Ps Any of the Moderators, if you have ?s about this stuff, ask me. I deal with it every day, I'd be glad to let you know the little details)
