This is my favorite episode of season 5. I love any Sam episodes but this one should her in a different light. For once she wasn't able to kick ass and had to rely on the others to rescue her.

Sometimes I get a good chuckle when the Goa'uld says, "Shoot me and you kill the host". laugh.gif The host could be an absolute jerk and it gives SG-1 a justified reason for shooting the host. You kill two with one stone as the saying goes, watch the symbiot and the jerk host go bye-bye. laugh.gif

I agree with Mike. I wonder what the Goa'uld would do if we said to go ahead and shoot the host. They so wouldn't be expecting that.

Well in this particular example, both the symbiote and the host were jerks - after all, who would want to kidnap SC? But this isn't always the case. Look at the episode Serpent's Song from season 2. The host of Apophis was a frightened old man by the time he died. He really wasn't a bad person, but it was Apophis in him that was corrupt. So while it certainly would shock the Goa'uld, we have to be careful that we don't become as bad as they are in winning the war. You can't just go around killing innocent people if you have a choice.

Now admittedly, you don't always have a choice, and there are many Goa'uld and their hosts that we have killed. But it's one thing when it's in the heat of a fight, and another in cold blood. And in this episode, O'Neill certainly could have killed the Goa'uld and still got the information he needed because he could check the video recording. But he didn't. That's important.

I wouldn't be sensing some hatred towards the goa'uld there would I? That would probably be overkill, but hugely satisfying.

We also have to consider that although the hosts may be innocent victims, they'll have to be considered casulties or war. Hopefully it will be written in that Sarah could finally be free of Osirus but that remains to be seen. In "Proving Ground", a cadet hesitated to shoot the suspected pocessed Daniel due to her feelings or more accurately attraction to him. It may have contributed to the rest her team being eliminated in the simulation. If a more effective means of "tranquilizing" the host could be found I'm sure the SGC would employ it by all means.

Well there was that "tranquilizing" dart that Dr. Frasier came up with in The Curse which was supposed to be able to knock out both the Goa'uld and the host, although it obviously wasn't strong enough to work on Osiris becase he/she was able to hobble away long enough to get on the ship and escape.

I don't know why they don't use this more often. But then I guess you'd actually want to capture the Goa'uld, which doesn't seem to be all that high on anyone's list of priorities. Of course you can always hit them with a Zat at which point they should be rendered incapactiated long enough to capture them somehow. But then I suppose we really only want to capture the Goa'uld whose hosts we care about - like Osiris.

i would have shot adrian conrad. who cares about the host? from jack's point of view, this guy just had sam captured, then willingly implanted himself w/ a goa'uld. how can he be any good? i know he just wanted to save himself, but what about everyone else on the planet? they don't do crazy things like that.

oh, and point worth mentioning: i loved daniel's little "electrocuted" part when he and teal'c broke into the hospital. he can fight after all!

If this guy was so desperate, why didn't he seek a tok'ra symbiote rather than a Goa'uld?

Since he knew everything about the SG operation I'm sure he could've approached the SGC with a request to combine with a Tok'ra. The Tok'ra would've loved that, I suppose. Besides, he wouldn't have had to suffer the horrid evilness of the Goa'uld symbiote and the possibility of never being able to exract it out of him without killing the host.

Sam could've suggested that when she was informed of the situation, don't you think?

He thought he could be healed, then extract the Goa'uld, and of course gain power, prestige, etc. with the capability to cure so many more diseases. If he got a Tok'ra symbiote, then he wouldn't of got any of the power/prestige and would've had to follow the Tok'ra's orders...

Not to mention having to go up to the SGC and admit the minor little detail of having stolen top secret information...or the fact that the Tok'ra might have said no. Even when their hosts are dieing they are sometimes hesitant to bond with an objectionable person. Look at Jacob's 'interview' by Selmak. tongue.gif
