Ya, I didn't really like the guy. He was a know-it-all that actually didn't know much of anything. Plus he was a jerk to Sam.

But at least he is smart in one respect: He thought Sam was hot. And hot Sam is wub.gif

Who was the tall, blonde mechanic guy at the end (in the gate room)? I've seen him before in small cameo parts. Is that some member of the crew?

Good eppy, I loved the part when Jack asked if Sam wanted to be in there and that guy said basically 'Not really', I felt for him when Jack said 'I was not talking to you'.

That nerd guy played by Dave Hewlett, I love it when Sam told him to suck a lemon, since the dweeb is allergic!! Go Gurl!!!

I do wish that they would give some of the other people at SG a little more names and stuff, to the unknown employees of Stargate!

He usually plays "Sergeant Siler". He shows up fairly regularly. Some episodes I remember him in are The Curse, when he is helping SC work on her bike, Entity, in which he's helping destroy the thing that the entity built. I also remember him beinf mentioned by name, although not necessarily seeing him much, in The Fifth Race. Usually he plays someone who is working on the gate in a technical sense. But he definitely appears fairly regularly.

It's also amusing when O'Neill walks into the gate room right at the end and taps Siler on the arm and says "Shake it off sparky". But that moment referenced previously when he asks SC if she wants to be in the room, and when Siler responds he says "I wasn't talking to you". That was pretty funny.

Yeah, all this guy needs is a wrench which gets larger with every appearance. I feel his is one of the most under-rated supporting actors in the show.

Never thought of him, but how often can you say "chevron seven locked" or be electrocuted by computor systems before you ask for a transfer. This guy has lines which rarely change each episode, must make it really easy to learn.

This discussion is missing a very key point of the episode. The asshole techno geek DID know more about the DHD than Sam did. He knew that the error codes that they have mapped were less than half of the errors that it should support.
I forget who said it now but I"m sure it was him. paraphrase here: If you had a DHD you it would have boosted the power and routed his (T'ealc) energy signature to the gate and would have put him back together automaticly.
That is the real bitch about having the computer run the gate. It doesn't have all the proper protocalls that it should, so there for it can't work to its full compacity. (and for the people that havent' figured out that to dial the Asgard you'll need the 8th Cevron and a hellovalot more power to reach another galacy all together). ooo
I did like the show. Its cool. They just have to understand that they are limited by thier inexperience with the advanced technology. They will have it all sorted out sometime.
Cheers

very good insite! i always wondered why they didn't use a DHD, it would definatly cut the spending because of all the energy they would save from operating the gate using the DHD's power, it would make sence! though i suppose it's safer using a computer incase a goaul'd got into the base he wouldn't know how to operate the computer and hence would be stuck!

i told my sister (another stargate fanatic like me) that this was the quintessential stargate episode. jack, sam, and daniel all got their chances to shine at what they do best, teal'c got his revenge, and maybourne had a part. what more could you ask for? but i sooooo wish that jack had shot that goa'uld. he knew about the tapes, so why didn't he just kill him? somebody pleeeeeze have an answer b/c that's driving me crazy.

They didn't kill the goa'uld because he was too precious a commodity. He was the only goa'uld they had managed to capture, they wanted to use him to get information.

i was thinking.... well firstly.. how did the russians get a DHD scince there wasn't one on thor's ship and secondly... they shouldn't have been able to use that DHD because the "point of origin" symbol would be different to that of the gate... so what the hell is up with this?!

do you know when sam and daniel was having that little convo on the phone and she went is there anyway the russians can be convinced to give us their DHD and then he went only if we give them bck Alaska.
i really liked those lines they should of had more comedy scenes for sam nd daniel to act out together. biggrin.gif
