The consumption by the Goa'uld of their own in the episode was listed at the reason why the Goa'uld were in neutral to negative population growth. I personally think that the whole eating process was just a means that they could demonstrate their power. For even Osiris who had been out of the loop for thousands of years new that the consumption was going to occur and she's been out off the System Lord loop for a while. Therefore the consumption off the Goa'uld seems to be an old custom and its understandable that the Tok'ra didn't know about it as its doubtful a Tok'ra agent has ever been to a summit of the System Lords.

Watching the this episode and its companion episode again and I'm now convinced that the way SG 1 gets out off this fix is bordering on the impossible. In some ways the writers need to keep things believable.

They eat mature symbiotes for one reason, to keep down competition. If the numbers of mature symbiotes rises, more system lords will appear, and they will each control a smaller territory. If they eat all the symbiotes that mature, then they can keep producing Jaffa, but ensure that no rival Goa'uld rises.

O.K. I'm reverse engineering my way through the series so, maybe someone can tell me just who osiris is. Or, obviously, who osisis' host is to Dr. Jackson.

well osiris host is a woman called sarah i dont remeber her last name but she was really close to daniel so i guess osiris could use that against daniel she was also a doctor of archology.
osiris normally chooses a male host but this time she choose a woman she osiris also has a brother who is a gould system lord i just cant remember who.

Well yes, but not all Goa'uld become system lords. We have seen plenty of Goa'uld who are not system lords, yet are in the service of a system lord:

- Zipacna in Pretense, was a servant of Apophis
- Klorel was the "son" of Apophis, but obviously wasn't a system lord
- Tanith was a Goa'uld in the service of first Apophis, and then Anubis
- Mot was a Goa'uld who served Ba'al
- Bynar was the lord of Netu, and served Sokar
- Osiris, on his/her return, served Anubis

And as I think Teal'c says at one point, there are only a few system lords, but there are many thousands of minor Goa'uld in service to the system lords.

So I don't think it's just to keep the population down because the fact that there are more Goa'uld doesn't necessarily mean that they will become system lords. But it obviously does help keep down the number of rivals.

Well they don't have to eat them, just not letting them take hosts

I don't believe the Tok'ras will kill off the Jaffas by the way, it's the way of the Aschen and that won't just happend, rather I find it more likely that Teal'c's idea will be implentated, with free jaffas and enslaved gou'alds. (well a couple of queens is enough)

A new Tok'ra queen would give other possiblies but I find that highly unlikely

I haven't seen the relevant epsiodes, yet, but in Ancient Egyptian mythology and religion, the brother of Osiris was Seth. Seth slew Osiris and scattered his body parts, but Osiris's sister and wife, Isis, gathered them together, and raised Osiris from the dead. She then bore a son, Horus, to Osiris. Horus was able to avenge his father on Seth, and suceeded to Osiris throne. Osiris became the king of the dead, just as the Pharaoh, the Horus, was the king of the living. online2long.gif online2long.gif online2long.gif
