Season 4, Episode 9 - Scorched Earth
Original Air Date: August 25, 2000

SG-1 is caught in a conflict between two civilizations trying to colonize the same planet. The current inhabitants face destruction by the new visitors. SG-1 studies the situation, and concludes that the visitors' vessel is terraforming the planet for a type of life unlike any they know - sulfur-based life, rather than carbon-based.

Well I thought it was great biggrin.gif
I actually found myself thinking how the hell will they get out of this one?
I think this must go down as one of my favourite episodes. O'Neill going for the explosives, while Daniel goes for the peaceful solution.
Although - if only a few days on earth would affect their eyes, how come they weren't all blind already?

This is the first time any NON-Carbon-based lifeform was mentioned. That is probably because all the Stargate worlds have to be like Earth to support Carbon-based life and so SG-1 can go explore them. Its nice that they finally addressed that not all aliens are like us. Even most of the aliens they meet are offshoots of humans, or humanoid (Nox, Asguard few thousand years ago)

The liason said that he would be willing to translate all of the information that the beings carried. I wonder why they never mention all of that advanced technology later on, assuming that they indeed gave it to us.

He did go with them.

He programmed the ship to fly back to the planet on its own and restart the process after it droped him and the others off on their original homeworld.

Whatever happend to the aliens that were being re-born so to speak? They looked pretty advanced and could prove to be good allies against the Goa'uld, why havent sg1 returned to that planet to see?

the reason sg-1 hasn't gone back would be because the teraforming would take out the stargate( which is why they would not be able to get all the people of the planet in time) and also after the completion of the alien operation there would be no suitable atmosphere for sg-1 to visit(if they could-see above).

This episode was quite good, but the guys with the yellow eyes annoyed me a bit, i knew they were appreciative but they just didnt seem it.

Its great to see how Oneill blatently disobeys orders at the risk of some serious repreciussions, in order for the greater good. It just shows how much of an emotional kind guy he is.

no- bacause he is not a robot he is artificially made but is flesh and blood. ny reasoning for my theory is the fact that he told Daniel that he had breathed in the sulphur loaded atmosphere to test the reacttion the body would take and when Daniel went up to see him we see him getting healed because of the damage caused- this would not happen to a robot.

Just one thing:

I don't understand: how will be possible to relocate these people if the ship has just enough power to finish the 'new world" ?

i think what they mean is that it had only enough raw material to do the teraforming- not travel that's why they said once they started they couldn't stop. and in the end they go to a planet with the original enkarens on it- that was turned down by the alien race cos of one of many things- it was too big- indicating they had not enough material for a planet that big.

That would probably take decades. I wonder if whathisname left a report on ship for when the race was...er...reactivated? Something like, these are humans and they are friendly...

The ship knew. It was a smart ship. It had to fly back once it dropped off the enkarons.

Granted, but would it think that would be something that would need to 'downloaded'?

I'm sure once the race was 'reactivated', they would have full access to the ship's computers. Since the guy was created by the computer, the computer has all of the knowledge that the guy had.

I liked this episode. We got to see a moral dilemma. Makes a change from the usual straight forward bad guy thing. There was no bad guy in this episode. The aliens were also good. No bumpy foreheads allowed on Stargate. The interior of the ship was gorgeous.
