This was a very cool episode. I almost felt a little sorry for Heru-ur at the end there. He just didn't seem to know what was going on what with all those cloaked Hat'ak's appearing.
I thought it intesting that DJ managed to pick up and translate a manual in a few days that the Tok'ra had been working on for many years. Guess they really aren't all that special after all. I also thought it neat that O'Neill was able to take over and be just about as good a pilot as Jacob/Selmak was. Although given his special operations background I've really no idea where he actually learned to fly! He's more a grunt than a flyboy. I also notice, from looking at his uniform, that he really doesn't seem to be wearing any wings. So what is up with that? Teal'c's resistance to the torture was also pretty amazing. I think that other Goa'uld just had pretty much given up in the end. He just could not believe that anyone could resist so much "persuasion". I also have to wonder what happened to that lower ranked Goa'uld after he woke up and found that he was on Apophis' ship. |

this was the first SG-1 episode i ever watched, so i can't help liking it. i was, of course, really confused the first time i saw it, but then watching it later, i could actually appreciate it. and no, i didn't feel sorry for Heru'ur. He got what was coming to him. After all, how many times has he tricked different planets and their populations withOUT any repurcussions?

and jack did NOT pilot nearly as well as Selmak. I would've thought that he was going to blow them all up, except for the fact that they were all the stars of teh show and Couldn't be killed (unless they're reveived).

this is one of my favourite episodes, yes didn't Heru'ur get one hell of a surprise when all those cloaked Hat'ak's appeared, Heru'ur time was up and that made Apophis even more powerful when Apophis went to claim the rest of Heru'ur army, "Galactic Badness", as O'Niell said.

Every episode with Jacob is a good one and this is actually my fave one with him in. Heru'ur got exactly what he deserved, its just a shame that it didnt happen sooner!
And Jack is not as good a pilot as Jacob, as soon as he took over he nearly blew them all up! |

I disagree. Don't forget that the Tauri (earth) are where all ancient earth cultures originated, and Daniel is an expert on earth ancient cultures. The Tok'ra don't have the time or the resources to devote to learning ancient and extinct languages since they're always on the run, nor do they have access to earth's ancient mythology. |

Yeah. Also don't forget that this is the same Daniel Jackson that figured out the Stargate in a few weeks when the other scientists had been working for two years.
By the way, I haven't seen this episode yet. Was it ever covered as to why Apophis hasn't taken a new host? |

The one he has is still showing damage from his stay with Sokar. I don't think those thingies on his face are there entirely for decoration.

I'm pretty sure Jack is a trained pilot. He's flown death gliders before. And when they went to that planet with the racists, he piloted one of those remote bombers pretty well. Although, you are right about him being Special Ops. I don't know how often in the real world you have air force officers being Special Ops and pilots. But when he wears his dress uniform, I'm pretty sure he has wings on it. One other thing, I LOVE the transportation rings. That effect never gets old for me. Great visual and sound effects. |

It's the air force. Even if you're not a pilot, you have to know a lot about flying.

Nope, that is like saying a Naval officer has to know how to navigate a ship, or an Army officer has to know how to drive a tank. I don't recall if there were pilots wings on Jack's uniform, I will have to check. The only wings I recall were the ones on his rank. |

Time limit has passed for editing. So, double post. Sorry.
There are no pilot's wings on Jack's uniform. There are jump wings and one other badge which I don't recognise (which is also on Sam's uniform). The Army and Air Force pilot wings are almost identical and fairly distinctive. Granted, he could be authorized the pilot wings, but doesn't wear them, there is a limit to the badges you can wear at one time. |

Don't they put you through a whole bunch of classes even if you're not going to pilot? |

Classes in what, specifically? The Air Force Academy is four years long, just like the Navy Academy and the Army Academy, you will go through a pile of classes. They do not have the time or resources to waste teaching you something that you will not use.
Any Academy grads out there who can be more specific? This post has been edited by SSG Ret: Sep 24th 2003, 12:47 PM |

Great episode. The moment when the two plots come together seemlessly was brilliant. I loved the whole Daniel and Carter and the Toban numbers argument.

Yup, this is a good episode for me too.
Re Jack flying the ship. I'm not sure I understand why he would be expected to fly it well. Even if he did have flying experience for the Air Force - this is a spaceship. The two aren't necessarily the same thing. What I love about that part of the episode though and makes me laugh is Jack flailing his arms around blindly, waving off the encroaching asteroids. ROTFL. I love all the near misses with the bomb inside the ship too. (My shipper heart especially likes when Jack dives forward to drag Carter out from under it as it starts to sink. My hero! <g>) And, of course, there's some great Jack/Jacob relationship. I haven't watched this for a time - is this the one where they have that hilarious "Wait a minute, you said we weren't going to make it!" conversation? Can't recall offhand. But that one has to rank as my favourite ever Jack/Jacob exchange. Hilarious. Jack's expressions, especially after Jacob's parting shot.... Albion |

Just watched it.
Yes yes yes! And then after that they are squeezed into a corner together! What's with the "math thing" though? Remember how Daniel originally translated the code as "three to the blue, four to the orange," and it didn't work? And Sam figured out that they must also have a zero? And after that, somehow, Daniel entered two to the blue, three to the orange." Wasn't he supposed to go four to the blue, five to the orange instead? Oops forgot to add. I know it's kinda subtle, but I liked this thing. When Jacob/Selmak is inviting Sam and Daniel (Jack, "Ahem." Jacob, "And Jack, you're always fun to be around, too."), Jack says, "You Tok'ra always send us on missions and we don't even ever know what we're going to. No you explain it to us right now." And the funny thing is, that it's not Selmak, but Jacob who responds, "I was going to," thereby laying a guilt trip on Jack who meant to harrass Selmak, but harrassed Jacob instead. I'm not really clear on why Jack flies anything. He doesn't seem to grasp enough math/science for pilot training. His backstory is that he joined the USAF at 18 and was Special Ops. So I always figured that he came in through the enlisted ranks and educated himself up to officer. The death glider flying I rationalize as a spreading out of the talent. After all, Sam is the one with flight training but she can't be expected to do everything.
I like it even better when he gets down on the floor to look underneath the bomb and he's definitely crowding Sam's personal space. Always good to see Jacob in an episode. And nice to see Teal'c with a large part of the plot to himself. And if it happens to involve being shirtless.... |
