First hour was awesome! I was really worried this show would suck. I'm enjoying this episode as much as this season's SG-1 premier. Finally, something worthwhile comes out of Canada.

I second that! I wasn't worried at all that the show would fall down on the job. I had faith where so many didn't, now that faith is finally pulling through. Lol! |

On the same note, best part of first part:
Daniel: He's Canadian. Jack: I'm sorry. |

That would be Pippen, actually. Atlantis definately seems to be living up to the great name of Stargate. The special effects, while looking slightly special effects-y, were very good, and I hope they have put as much effort into the whole series and this was not just something they did for the pilot. I thought it was funny when Daniel was practically begging to be allowed to go with the Atlantis crew. |

I don't think it looked special effectsy at all. It looks completely and totally realistic. |

That episode was awesome. This show has a great start, and it really looks like it could be really really good. Major Sheppard is the freakin man. People were sayin they were tryin to put a new Jack in the show with the humor. I found his sense of humor original and I was actually laughing aloud sometimes. You can also see that Sheppard and Ford are going to get along real well. They already started to show real good chemistry and the cockpit scenes were pretty good.
This show started off real great and if most episodes are like the series premiere this will be as good as SG1. |

That Dr. Beckett guy sounds kinda like Merry from Lord of the Rings
I was thinking the exact same thing, except I think he sounds more like Pip. |

Posted this in spoilers, not realizing this topic existed. Don't even know HOW I found this topic. As a matter of fact I don't even know if this IS the right topic...but here goes....
anyway, here's my take on episodes 1 & 2 (jumble of thoughts)... so far pretty exciting. Still has the Stargate feel to it. Was getting tired of SG-1 (gasp!)... this might breathe new life into my excitement for the whole Stargate Universe in general. And here I thought that only the 4 team members were going, but no...a whole damn group went. I like that. Atlantis itself is very well designed. Doesn't look too corny to me, looks like a lot of design work went into this premiere...and that is probably an understatement. New gate symbols and even a new video of gate travel (instead of the old movie one) The main characters I like so far, I'm getting used to Weir...Shepherd seems like the O'neill of Atlantis, but he's a pretty cool character, the "puddle-jumper" conversation comes to mind as a good moment. They better not let him die, being the only one who can use any of the ancient stuff proficiently. For some reason I really like Mkay/ Mckay?, I like the character better, a little more real than perfect Carter (double gasp!). I find the Scottish accent guy to be pretty amusing. Bla bla bla....um ...yes The Wraith. Much much more scarier enemy. Kudos to that. The Gua'uld just don't do it for me. But a scary even more advanced race that eat people...well sh*t...and now they are all awake. They look a little odd, but I'll get used to it. Kind of like humanoid creepy catfish people, things. The chick was especially ugly. Those ships sound like some crazy electric guitar riff. "They do not have a need to explain themselves" ...I like that...gets away from the "James Bond" effect of a villain explaining their big bad an evil plan to everyone. Seems like the henchmen are still dumb like the Jaffa, running around and dying. ..oh also thought that having Shanks and RDA in the episode made a nice bridge to the new series. Peeves- nothing too big) Kind of weird how the Wraith are so advanced that the ancients can't beat them, but Shepherd with a machine gun can destroy one of their ships. Everyone speaking English still, been a problem ever since the first season of SG-1...oh well I give up. Kind of pissed Sumner died...oh well... reminds me of the movie "Executive Decision" where Steven Seagal dies in the first 20 mins. Wraith so far are easy to beat...I hope they get harder. They're scary, but they don't have the skill shown to back up their reputations as Ancient killers. And if they were ALWAYS this easy, wonder what that says about the Ancients. Good music so far, I heard a few hints of the Stargate theme a few times. No distinct Atlantis theme yet. Unless the music during the Helicopter ride was it. In that case it wasn't bad. Anyway...seems like it'll be a cool show, I'll watch it... if it sucks...looks like I'm watching Battlestar Galactica. Alright, fill in the holes...I left out A LOT. Thanks |

I'm not one for long posts..so...i'll make it short. I really enjoyed the episode...was really impressed by the layout and visual effects of the city...both above and below water...i think we have another good show to watch!!
Out of curiosity...when we saw the 2 Ancients in the opening sequence (millions of years ago) was the female the same one from the episode Frozen (Season 6 ep#4) |

Hey i noticed that too mjd! I thought she looked familiar. That's kinda cool that they fit her in there.
As for this episode, I thought it was great. All the characters seem cool. I was hoping for a little intro to check out the any new theme music but i can wait a week. Overall a very nice episode. |

I hope no one kills me for saying this, but i thought the Atlantis premire was better than SG-1s Season 8 premire.

Great series opener, three cheers
I really enjoyed that there was no pretention about the wraith, no pompousness. Pure evil. One desire (well, two)...to eat and dominate. End of discussion. Well done imo. Their ships are a bit weak but sure make a nice sound as they fly by. And the Asgard-like transporter....some connection there I wonder? |

Yes, the Ancient female in the very opening sequence of Part One WAS the same one found buried in the ice by the SGCers working down there in Antarctica after the Solitudes episode, when Jack and Sam were thrown thru the second stargate.
The Ancient male was angry when he left her. Was it because she was infected with the plague? Was it because she wanted to -- or had to -- stay on Earth while Atlantis migrated to the Pegasus Galaxy? Interesting to think about, but it was indeed the same girl. |

Finally? Did you know that pretty much all of Stargates eps are filmed in Canada too? And what about Celine Dion? Okay bad example. |

ok....I'm a loyal SG-1 fan and, like many of you, I was also worried that Atlantis would suck. However, I thought it was very cool

Part One of Rising was good only for the minutes RDA was on screen. His charisma is unbeatable! So far, none of the other actors has really impressed me; Sheppard is SO derivative -- his character has very little that is unique or that separates him from all other hot shot hero wannabes.
I stand on neutral ground about "Atlantis." This post has been edited by PricklyPear: Jul 17th 2004, 10:48 AM |

All those who doubted it....be ashamed...be VERY ashamed.... GREAT premiere, love the new show and can't wait for new episodes. It is just as good as SG-1 and the fact that RDA and MS were in (even for the short time) made the transition even better. Brilliant Season Premiere, and good set up for the wraith!
