supersoljahs who look vaguely like Darth Vader underneath.....
Hmmm interesting concept...although i immediately thought of the X Files when the term "supersoldier" was used...hehe |

I just saw this, and I loved it. Both story lines are great, but I am really starting to get frustrated with how split up the team is. I definitely want to keep Dr. Lee. It's nice having Daniel be the calm under fire one with someone else as the nerd. It shows how far his character has come since the first season cliffhanger when he managed to miss a Jaffa standing 20 feet away!

Contrary to popular opinion, I did not like this ep. I so didn't like it that when it aired again last night I changed the channel and watch JAG instead! Has Stargate really gotten to the point where the new villians need to be of comic book proportions? The "Super Soldier" has the helmet of a Bionicle and the face of Ripley's half alien offspring for cryin' out loud. Are we meant to take this joke seriously? And while the armor idea is interesting you'd think an explosion, while not hurting the wearer, would at least knock him on his butt.
The source of sarcophagus technology, another interesting idea, is believed to be on Earth and the SGC only sends two guys to South America to find/retrieve it with no back up? A minimum team sent off world to a known peaceful planet is four and Earth is anything but peaceful. As for Daniel getting kidnapped in the jungle...over five years under Jack's command and he hasn't learned to do a basic threat assessment? The kidnapper stood out in the crowd. Warning bells should have gone off. Sheesh! Nope, didn't like it at all. |

If they sent a full expeditionary force or whatever, that would attract way too much attention. It would attract a lot more guerillas, mercenaries, whatever to go after the team. The small 2-man team with guide was a good way to not gain any attention. It just so happened that a someone was listening in on their conversation. If I were to spend 5 years hanging around a physicist, it would not make me any smarter. Just because Danny spent some time around Jack, doesn't make him an Army of One. You say the kidnapper stood out in the crowd. I remember him just sitting at a table acting nonchalant. Daniel is still just an archeologist; maybe has some basic training, nothing more, nothing less. |

My favorite part is when O'Neill and the others are in the cell and he tries to convince Ramius that they weren't there to kill them. I thought that was funny how Jack handled the situation with Ramius.

Well it has been a long while since they were captured by a system lord, at least less than a series. |

I wasn't suggesting a full expeditionary force. It has often been stated that one of the mission objectives of the SGC is to acquire alien technology. Well here's a biggie and yet they don't send a discrete force to find and secure the location in what they should know is a relatively hostile area.
No, but it should make him more observant.
edit note: I put the two thoughts together in one quote since they are related. Sorry if I've distorted your original intent. If you sit in an outdoor area, especially one as seedy looking as this was, and loudly discuss where exactly you intend to go and how much money, implying you have alot, you're going to pay a guide to take you there, you're going to attract attention and make yourself a target.
At this late stage in the game with all he's seen and done, Daniel has certainly become more than "just an archeologist". |

I assumed that they sent to scientist types because otherwise they might have to explain soldiers from America wandering around someone else's jungle--other government have funny ideas about sovereignty and national borders. |

They probably sent two archaeologists because they weren't worried about a threat. Earth is supposed to be safter than offworld...right?

I thought it was an ok episode. Really nice to see Jack back in his usual form, but also stlll not the team together.
I agree with dorien. I think that they would have atleast send along a 4 man team. Not military, but I am sure the SGC could dig up some guys that were experienced, but did not look military. As I recall the guide was use to people wanting to look at temples and ruins. I don't think a team of 4 'archeologist' would have drawn alot of attention. I also agree that Daniel should have picked up a few skills from Jack and Teal'c. I think he was lulled into a false sense of security because he was on Earth. |

The thing that kinda bugs me about this episode: If they're planning to try to catch a SS with heavy armor, shouldn't they at least bring some anti-armor weapons? I hear the latest single-man anti-tank rockets can go through like a foot of steel. Maybe they don't know if it would work, but I would think it beats shooting at it with weapons that you know won't work.

I kinda liked the supersoldier, even though he was a tad Star Wars as someone said earlier. But I liked it when the explosions kept going off near him and he just walked straight through them...
My dad kept yelling at the tv "Its Arnie, the terminator" - so I'm guessing he didn't like SS... |

As you say, they wanted to catch it, not kill it. So choosing anti armour weapons that go through a foot of steel is probably not the best weaopn to use if you want catch something alive. |

The episode was cool. Jackson kidnapped, new supersoldiers (which I like). It was a very cool episode. Daniel was very confident that his friends would come for him; which that is a good thing.
When they opened the Supersoldier's helmet, his face was awesome. I need to get myself a mask for halloween |

Now THIS is stargate!
Seriously, I had been starting to worry that after 701/702 Season 7 was going to turn out to be really dead in comparison to the others - especially with less RDA. But I'd seen odd spoilers for the second half of S7 so I was hopeful that it would get better - which indeed seems to be the case if this ep is anything to go by. And I know Part 2 and 'Grace' are going to be worth seeing, so the next couple of weeks look good! More action, a new enemy, RDA is back (hence better team dynamics), Daniel is back to digging around in ancient temples...as I said, THIS is stargate! Can't wait for part 2.... |
