First off; Zelenka and McKay rule! For the drama I can understand why you need to kill a relatively known character, shame it had to be Grodin.

Ehm... just outta curiosity (might be my own ignorance) why aren't there any puddle jumpers in the air to defend Atlantis? There must be a number of qualified pilots around to form a (small) line of defence...?

Anyway, great episode, I'm actually beginning to love the spin-off. Job welldone!

Greetz,

King Hans

cuz if they did then they'd certainly get blown to bits along with the pilots, who would be more useful on the ground fighting than scattered in little bits all over atlantis.

Aren't there a very limited number of pilots for the puddle jumpers? For one thing, you need the ancient gene to fly them, right? And I doubt they brought that many qualified pilots with them as the mission planners had no way of knowing if any ancient ships would even be available.

In one of the episodes towards the end of season 1, where the Atlantis detect a Wraith Dart approaching Atlantis, we find out that they have very few people capable of flying the Jumpers. Sheppard was off world and Bates had to recruit Beckett to pilot one of the Jumpers along with two other pilots. In all they only had 3 people capable of piloting the Jumpers (4 with Sheppard).

Yeah, I thought it was something like that, but I couldn't remember the number of pilots. Wish I had your memory, Daf. biggrin.gif

Beckett already (sorta) knew how to fly the jumpers because he first flew a jumper in 'The Storm' and then i'm not sure what the second episode was called but as Daf said it was in an episode where Shep was off world...I think the episode was titled 'The Brotherhood' because that's the only episode which i can think of where he was out of radio contact.

didn't beckett fly a PJ when stackhouse (and the other guy who was with him, i forget his name) was blown to bits?

was stackhouse the pilot or was it the other guy?

so if there were only four people who could fly the PJs and one was dead, one was the 'doc fraiser of atlantis' (i.e. the main doctor) and the third was the top milatery person in Atlantis it left only one person to fly the PJs. no one in their right mind would attack that amount of wraith on their own. it would be certain suicide.

Yes it would be good to see more of Zelenka and get more of a personality out of him.
We've established that with Beckett and he's making such a great addition that i hope we do see more of him.
Zelenka and Mckay make a good team.

QUOTE(nitesoul @ Jan 26th 2005, 6:09 AM)
i never said he couldnt, i'm sure up until that point he was still sending information, they mentioned that bit about not detecting bob sending any transmissions to the hiveships while he was on the city, well thats how he would have done it, and i'm pretty sure that once they remember that, telya will be comepletely vinidcated of leaking out info to the wraith

but all in all it doesnt change the fact that once he was caught and stuffed in a cage he couldnt find out any new intel on them that he hadnt already given the out to the wraith, and why didnt he tell the hiveships what weirs anouncment to the city was? well hes was stuned with the wraith gun a few times and was being shot to death by shepperd, its seems bob would be a little too distracted

bottom line, shepperd tortured bob for info to the point of bobs death, the sgc never did that with any of the goa'uld they held, heck the nid even remained civil toward the conrad symbiot(not that they havent resorted to torture), its shepperd crossing the line or at least bluring the normal conventions of the good guy(i'm in no way saying that i dont like the darker aspects the show is taking, just surprised)

Was there really any point to that post. Just saying you agree with another post doesnt add anything to the discussion of the episode.

that scene was brilliantly acted on both parts, you could see the anger on Shepperds' face when Bob says "no matter where you go, will find you as surely as we will find Earth"

would you do the same thing if your were placed in the same situation...?

im sure i would'av...

crying.gif I was very sorry that they killed off Grodin, and wish that Kavanaugh(sp?) could have been the one instead but he's so full of himself he would not allow himself to pushed into a possible suicide mission like that. Also I wonder why Sheppard didn't just shoot the wraith in the head. I mean why only shoot the wraiths (and I do mean in all other episodes also) in the torso where they usually seem to have some sort of body armor? I know in this episode he was questioning him, but his last shot could have been "right between the eyes". I'm sure he's a good enough marksman.

Actually if you look at any show where weapons are used, most shoot the torso. They usually do not aim for the head, much too much blood and all that. wink.gif

I totally agree about Kavanaugh though. He's a character that I do not like, but you have to have those idiots at times to make you appreciate the other characters.

Yeah you can't really show head shots on tv, because in real life, when a person is shot in the head, usually... half of their head gets blown off... It is really gross. sick.gif
