I think theyre massively superior shields could have held out long enough to jump into hyperspace.

Ok don't shoot me but if the ancients had a ok supply of ZPM's could'nt they just rotate them like keep 2 in and when they are getting low put another one in quickly so mabye they could have had enough power for a few minutes to power up the engines and enter hyperspace?

That would be dependant on whether they had spare ZPMs. 'Before I Sleep' spoilers:

There is nothing to say that it had already been heavily used by the Ancients before Ra found it. We have no idea of knowing if it was fully charged or not. From the time it was found in Egypt,it had been used to send an SG-team plus supplies to Atlantis in Seige Pt 2,was used to boost the Dadelaeus engines to reach Pegasus in a few days, and then powered the City's Shields and Systems for a while so they got their money's worth out of it I thought. If a MK2 Naquada Generator could power up the chair for a short time (at least we know they can do that in Antartica if necessary) and lightning can power up the shield to hold back the force of a tsunami (The Storm Pt 2) and Mckay can gate to Earth for 1.3 seconds with Naquada Generators to send a message to SGC then I think they could figure out a way to power up the shield for a short period of time if they had to. |

I know that it had been used extensively recently but we were never told if the ZPM had been used by the Ancients in the past. We have no idea if it was a fully charged ZPM when Ra managed to gain possession of it. |

Melia's hologram welcome speech:
"... in the hope of spreading new life in a galaxy where there appeared to be none. Soon the new life grew and prospered. Here, as before, we built a system of stargates so the fledgling civilizations could travel between the stars... exchange knowledge, and friendship. In time, a thousand worlds bore the fruit of life in this form. Then one day our people set foot upon a dark world where a terrible enemy slept. Never before have we encountered beings with powers that rivaled our own. In our overconfidence, we were unprepared and outnumbered. The enemy fed upon the defenseless human worlds like a great scourge, until finally, only Atlantis remained. This city's great shield was powerful enough to withstand their terrible weapons, but here we were beseiged for many years. In an effort to save the last of our kind, we submerged our great city into the ocean. The Atlantis stargate was the one and only link back to Earth from this galaxy, and those who remained used it to return to that world that was once home. There, the last survivors of Atlantis lived out the remainder of their lives. This city was left to slumber, in the hope that our kind would one day return." |

Thanks for that Revan but it doesn't really help the ZPM discussion going on.

So the discussion is that the ZPM Ra had was already mostly depleted, or are you talking about the Proclarush Taeonas one? In S3 of SGA:
» Click to Show Spoiler « I am thinking the Proclarush Teonas ZPM was already almost entirely depleted. Where do we have any information regarding the depletion or not of the ZPM found in ancient Egypt? Ra couldn't have known what it was, he didn't seem to miss it after it was stolen. I have noticed that no one has mentioned the classic Jack move of rolling the bottle of champange through the stargate. I just couldn't help smiling when I saw that.

I agree with you that these sort of stories are quite interesting, but doing more of them this season (5) is a little to late to save the shows future. That is the point I was making. They should have been doing those stories from the get-go. I said these types of episodes might just have saved the show. |

Episode 1 - Rising (Part One) Air Date: (US) July 16, 2004 A new Stargate team embarks on a dangerous mission to a distant galaxy, where they discover a mythical lost city -- and a deadly new enemy (Part 1 of 2.) Episode Guide | Teaser 1 | Teaser 2 (This topic is for people who have seen the episode to discuss it. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read this topic.) the beginning of those dramas are all so aweful except heroes. i was attracred by Clair for her no-dead cell.... but anyhow, Stargate Atlantis is really classical sci-fi drama. |
