I have mixed feelings about this episode. I liked the premise, but the fact is that Duplicate O'Neill just seems like a throwaway character. Although the whole cloning concept is cliche, I think it worked well because they had set precedent in season 5. I would appreciate the episode better if they writers bring young O'Neill back for at least one more episode. I mean he might be just like O'Neill but he is still a huge security risk for the USAF.

Was it just me or did Cloney O'Neill seem more irritable than the real one. I wonder if the writers deliberately wrote the character that way to account for teenage hormones.

I liked the clone O'Neill. I do hope they bring him back as the "nephew". I thought was pretty good. He didn't want to age himself by saying that he was O'Neill's son. I thought that the clone did a good job mimicking Jack's personna from body language to speaking. It was good.

I thought it was pretty funny at the debriefing when Carter was talking to the pilots and they wanted O'Neill. O'Neill was funny when he came to join in. He got their attention...despite Hammond's direct order.

So when Col O'Niell retires, will Col O'Niell take over?

I mean, clone or not he would be the most qualified, even missing the next few years he'd have all the knowledge of the project from the beginning to his cloning and be familiar to offworld contacts. By the time Jack retires Young Jack would be a perfect age for the job.

Oh, and can anyone imagine Young Jack entering the Air Force again and wowing all his trainers with his flying skill?

I could imagine the disciplinary actions that would be taken against him as a result of the protential wisecracks that he is known for doing.

QUOTE (Rikaelus @ Jun 21 2003, 07:34 PM)
He *is* O'Neill. Being a clone doesn't change who he is. The definition of a clone is a copy of the original, and except for his age, he is the same Jack O'Neill. We saw a similar situation when SG-1 had robot duplicates made and even the robots couldn't stay away from Stargate travel # and they're a lot less like the originals than Jack's clone is.

No, he's not O'Neill, he just thinks he is. smile.gif

O'Neill was born on such-and-such a day to whoever, didn't pay attention in high school or whatever, went to whatever Air Force Academy and did all that stuff, went on all sorts of missions to other planets and whatnot. This guy was grown in an alien laboratory a few days ago. None of that stuff ever happened to him and he knows it. Every time he sees someone or something he thinks he knows, he has to realize that his brain is lying to him.

I think the robot thing is a little different for a few reasons. First... they're robots, they might be programmed to do certain things. They're also a team of adults who were friends beforehand and are still together and apart from their originals. They live on a completely alien world and can't ever really go home for more than a day, they're completely away from everything they've ever known, gate travel is as close to familiarity as they can really get. For young O'Neill to do things he's used to, like being at the SGC or in the Air Force in general, living at his house, talking to the people he remembers, he'd have to force people to accept him, and he'd have to deal with his original all the time. It would be sort of grating.

I'd be really pissed at myself in the first and third person all the time if I were around me. It would be inescapable.

But again, maybe I'm just reading too far into it.

I think the irritibility aspect might've come in from having his body severely altered without his knowledge or consent... or maybe the kid was over-acting a little bit...

Yea he's probably not a throwaway character, but I don't think you'd see him again until Season Eight, if there is one.

Writers like to leave doors like these open to themselves. How many episodes was Cassandra in (although little screentime in each I admit)? R'yak? Even Robot O'neill had 2 episodes. Clone O'neill will get a second episode if the show continues long enough. It'd be pretty easy, Col O'neill is disabled but we need someone with his expertise, Oh no! who do we call?

Yes, I agree - he'll probably get another appearance in season eight if it happens, maybe even another this season, although I think it should be a relatively minor role in the episode if he was to appear again this season.

My point is since the character was introduced in what will probably be the final season of Stargate, it is doubtful we will see him again. The robots and Cassandra where introduced early in the series and even if they only got a couple of episodes we had closure with the robots and character development with Cassandra.

I think if there is a season 8 they should bring Cloney back, and it would even be a good episode to bring back the NID, maybe some sort of kidnapping plot can be done.

Okay, I see what' you're saying now.

I dunno though, even without season 8 it might play into something else with the other series or whatever, or at least they want that base covered for whatever reason. There seems to be something special about Jack at this point and this whole young clone thing seems to me like it could be a very convenient plot device. But of course I'm speculating, and there's a reason I don't write shows. smile.gif

and the air force set him up? to be a clone, thats a SWEET deal

loki was intresting... who did the voice?

Yeah that song seemed out of place.. it just didn't seem like the kind of thing Jack would listen to for pleasure, and Jack was the only person... people... in the car.

Very good episode though, and I agree, mini-jack was acted extremely well

Just downloaded and watched today. All I got to say is for once I was right. When the description of this ep came out a few months ago I said "It's an Asgard named Loki"

Loki kicks ass. Too bad Thor is going to punish him

I'm curious to know what the tune is as well. It kinda threw me for a loop as we have never heard any type of music on the show aside from the "mood music" that is added to certain scenes for enhancement. I thought I was watching an episode of Smallville or Roswell for a moment there.

I honestly thought before the commerical break after the school scene we would hear. . . "Music for tonight's episode of Stargate SG-1 was provided by blah blah blah. . . .". laugh.gif "You can purhcase this CD at the Stargate SG-1 superstore, log on to MGM.com." tongue.gif

no, we hear music at the ends of some of the eps, just not all that often. and not quite like that. i thought the ep was a little weird, but i'm glad we finally met somebody out there named loki (i've only been waiting for it forever, as my friends can tell you) i didn't like jack's "mini me", but i have to admit he did a really good job at acting like him.

ya know... a few thigns stuck in my mind... 1...
can you say security breach.... i mean yea hes a little jack running around.. and as such has all of jacks traits... ie not spilling secrets.. but at the same time... you think the SGC would have been a tad bit more tight about letting him go out to high school... i thought they were goign to let him go with the asgaurd so they could have their own jack... since they like him so much....

secondly... how well is mini-jack going to fit in with high school... sure hes young... but he has jacks mind and such... hes going to give his teachers the same crap if not more that jack gives the tokra... "I dont care if you know more... i dont like you"

thirdly... we know from the episode where sg1 is made into mechanical copies... they couldnt stop being who they were... will little jack be able to stop being who he is... IE a Colonel in the USAF?

While I htink for a little while he woudl be ok with it... i dont think he will be able to stop for ever...

I did like how little jack went fishing... haha just a little hint of hte older one there... alwyas going fishing. smile.gif

well those are my ideas

I`m just watching this ep...looks good, much better than fallen and homecoming. I think the way mini Jack acts towards Sam seems a bit different than usual..when he says "that`s sir to you" and when Sam says "sir please" about freezing him, it doesn`t seem to have as much effect as it had other times.
Oh yeah, and Daniel seemed TOO normal..like nothing had happened to him since season 5.
btw..was Loki ever mentioned before in another ep?? Thor looked a bit weird...out of his nice and probably comfy chair.

I`d love to be in that kid`s place..play the clone of Jack..but anyway for that i would have to be a boy and good at acting:) What was the part about being a bit weird in high school all about? I really didn`t get it.

LOL

well after watching it again, i knew i'd heard that song before..... well turns out it is "Who Am I?" by Lily Frost and it was in the movie Crazy/Beautiful (which is why i've heard it, hehe)

if you listen to the lyrics it makes sense, dna, who exactly am i? but i was too expecting something at the end saying what the song was... nope, nothin'

Okay, after they realized he was a clone, why the heck did Sam keep calling him sir? I'd be like "To hell with this...I'm calling you Jack! Ha ha!"
