Great Episode.
Perhaps it is the greatest episode that stargate ever had. It its related to the current political situation, it transmits a moral message to the people and it had realy great acting. This coul'd have been one of the best Star Trek Episodes, but it did work for Stargate aswell. stargate normaly is more about action so it was realy great to see an inteligent story line made up. Than I liked that peole from other planets did actualy not speak english this time, one of the advantages of having daniel on board.
So, maybe ther was no action, and much talking scenes, but that is what a good story is all about.

It took a lot of guts for Ironshirt to walk down alone into the camp. Even if the Unas had the soldiers outnumbered twenty to one, he had to have known they could kill him.

I liked the look on Daniel's face when the colonel said, "O'Neill was right about you. You are a real pain in the ass...but well worth it." That was a picture.

QUOTE (RookiesRevenge @ Jul 25 2003, 09:16 PM)
Awesome, another new episode of Stargate SG1 aka "The Michael Shanks Hour" tongue.gif

Hey RookiesRevenge!
Here's a few aka names I came up with for the show. How about the Michael Shanks Show or SG-1 with Michael Shanks? Here's one, The Adventures of Daniel Jackson. Or maybe Daniel Jackson and company. Wait! Wait! I got it. Daniel Jackson, SGC. tongue.gif laugh.gif Seriously though, it needed more RDA, a lot more RDA. And yes, maybe just a little more Major Carter. A little more Hammond wouldn't have hurt eiter. I'm just waiting to see if sometime between now and the end of season 8 they have an all Jonas Quinn episode. I know he's returning for episode later this season. That's all I wanted to say. Till later...

I think this one is my favorite of the season so far. It nice to see Chaka all dressed up. I heard next time Daniel takes him to a black tie affair and has to get him into a Tuxedo.

Definately a Daniel episode. Nice to see the Americans did not learn from the Indians. They were going to screw another race out of their lands cause that's what we need.

I personaly like the fact that RDA was in it except minimally. The constant smartass comments have looong since gotten boring. I like the subtler humor involved with Daniels antic. "It will take as long as it takes!"

BTW, has anyone seen the movie Enemy Mine? The resemblance is close to Unas. Butt-ugly

Hey, its the Daniel Jackson happy hour!!! That man sure knows how to negotiate and prevent war...
Shame that there doesn't seem to be a man like Daniel Jackson in GW Bush's present staff. They ALL seem to think like that ass of a colonel- "fire guns, sort stuff out later"! tongue.gif

But getting back to the ep- I jus knew that O'Neill was gonna get injured somehow so that he wouldn't have to stay in the next half hour of the episode! I was surprised to see AT with a tiny, tiny role- but generally, even though I adore those characters- it was great to see "yet another" Daniel Jackson episode!! The Unas are soooh cool! I'm real pleased they brought them back. And I actually really appreciated the language spoken more- I understood some words as Daniel kept translating to himself/ for the audience! smile.gif

But its like, "Well, you guys moaned sooh much about DJ disappearing for the last season, so we'll just put him in front of the camera for the majority of the next season and see how that fares..."
But seriously, if I see another ep with no Sam, and no Jack- I think I'll go insane! Where have all the "team" episodes gone to? (However, I am hopeful that the writers will restore my faith in them as the season progress!) biggrin.gif

Ok..to those of you who are complaining about RDA not being in these episodes lately...we all knew this was going to happen, but it's something that is necessary so he can use the days he's on set to work on other, more action packed eps as well.

I did think it was funny when he was complaining to the nurse to "go away" and acting in pain...but then acts like he's fine when Carter shows up...then goes back to being in pain when she leaves.

This episode was about diplomacy, so there was really not a lot use for Carter. At least they recognized that immediately and let her go work on her off camera "science project". I would rather have characters who aren't really needed for a story not be there, as opposed to having them just hang around and doing practically nothing for an entire ep. I mean, look what happened to Teal'c...what did HE get to do?

In fact, I think what would've made this even more interesting would've been the following scenario:

Jack gets hurt..stays behind
Carter works on project, stays behind.
Teal'c get hurt...stays behind

Daniel goes back to planet with Chaka to negotiate, then a group of Unas attack and force the SGC people away from the gate and the mine...Now Daniel and Chaka have to negotiate a peace with Iron Shirt before Hammond decides to send reinforcements through and all out fight breaks out. Meanwhile, the other Colonel is arguing w/Daniel about who's in charge and threatens to attempt to re-take the gate against a bunch of very angry Unas....and Daniel's got no one to back him up except Chaka.

What surprised me is that you would think that Hammond would've learned his lesson after the ep "Spirits", in which they tried to mine naquada against the wishes of an Indian tribe..and then has their "guardian spirits" come through the gate and start making SGC people disappear until Daniel admits they were wrong. Talk about short memories...

For me the best part was when Iron Shirt mentioned something about "the other tribes", and suddenly the balance tipped from the SGC people being the agressors to being outnumbered. I think the phrase "Oh...sh*t" could sum it up nicely.

I really enjoyed seeing Daniel in his "element" more than what he did in "Lifeboat". I also like the little reminder of how well O'Neill knows Daniel when the younger man started fuming about the relics being moved..."Daniel...go to your happy place."

Great episode! It turned atound 180? suddenly! From one man getting lost, to chasing the Unas after DJ seing a joch excl.gif, suddenly peace after Daniel speaks a few words in the unas tongue, the negotiations and finally the big tribe-unition-thingie-surrounding of the SG-troups! Just great! If I hadn?t known that it was near the end I?d have thought the other curnel would screw it up!

Just one thing intrigues me: How would you describe a space ship to Iron-Shirt?

I LOVED this episode., for a bunch of reasons. One, even tho I miss the full team, I love the focus on Daniel from time to time. I love the Unas story line, partially because they are aliens who finally don't look just like humans so it brings some diversity to the show. I'm a language buff, so I loved all the scenes where DJ is chatting with IronShirt.

I also noticed the "french" component, although they used Quelle for several words, including How and Why.

My favorite scene? When DJ explains that they will give food for naquada. He takes a bite of the "granola bar", gives a mmm mmm good face, and then explains that they want to trade. I do miss the others, but this is definitely my fave Season 7 so far. cool.gif cool.gif

I posted something a day ago tho about the apparent lack of respect I think DJ gets in Season 7 after having been mourned and missed for a whole year. The "Daniel you're a pain in the ***" and "Don't be so....you know...[you]" thing kind of irks me. The guy has saved the world and died half a dozen times, can't he get some serious respect? huh.gif

I want my father to see this episode because he's always complaining about how in Sci-Fi, the aliens always speak English. I'd be like "Look! They aren't speaking English!"

I thought it was an okay episode...I didn't think they'd get things resolved so easily. And I wish we'd see more of the team, and not just Daniel. OH well...it did have a feel of the old Stargate episodes though.

As much good feedback there is on this episode. According to Gateworld this episode has had the LOWEST ratings so far with 1.17. This isnt good especially with MGM's withdrawal from the negotiating table to buy Sci-Fi Channel. Stick with it guys, dont let them pull the plug.

Hmmm this seems very odd and doesn't seem good at all. I personally thought the episode was very good, quite well thought out and very informative about the Unas' culture which we didn't know that much about beforehand

Maybe there was some other external factor as to why the ratings were so low and the next episode's ratings will pick up again?

When you think about it, an episode's ratings are largely dependent on external factors and often if people don't watch it, it may be because the previous episode wasn't that great (they don't know if it's going to be good until they watch it). Therefore the reduced ratings for this episode may actually indicate that not that many people liked 'Lifeboat'.

I liked this episode, and I think it's the first one where not having Jack was acctually pivotal to the effectiveness of it. I mean, there would have been no point in having Daniel and Edwards argue at all, if Jack was just going to run interferance all the f*cking time. Though, Edward's twat-iness was kinda forced and stereotypical. IMO, the best SG1 episodes are the ones that don't focus too much on action. Action should always take backseat to the storyline and characters, and if you're looking for a Sci-Fi show with lots of no-brainer action, you're better off watching Andromeda, Mutant X or Voyager re-runs.

Does anyone know of an SG1 BBS where the majority of people acctually have fully working brains? I haven't had time to look.

Even if you didn't like this episode, you should watch them all anyway.
The medium of television has qualities that shape what you see. From the formula, to the actors, all obey rules of hollywood and TV.
Examples. The formula that acvtion shows MUST use, is based on commercials.
Teaser, credits.
Setup, start to build tension, hook, before commercial.
Plot develoupment, tension builder, hook. Comm.
Repeat, with life threataning hook. Comm.
At maximum tension point, resolution, release of tension, and resolution just prior to end, commercial.

This formula was in place in the 50s, and hasn't changed since.

Budget.
Everyone is looking forward to the "Space race" episode, but that one will cost more than 5 "Enemy mine" type of episodes.
The high dollar episodes just can't be sustained with the budget they are on. Enemy mine, and Lifeboat were cheapies, to save their pennies for saturday night dance, so to speak.
Be greatful the didn't use the ULTIMATE cheapie, the dreaded "FLASHBACK" episode, hated by all but the accountants.

REAL world elements creep into fantasy world show.
The special effect budget will form a wave, from show to show, rising and falling, like the tide.
You MUST support the WHOLE show, or you will get NO show. This is a package deal.

You must "suffer" through the "merely" brilliant acting, and writing, to get to those all important explosions and space battles.

(Cough*spoilled*cough)

Do you nay sayers understand just how rare and special it is to have ANY TV show that isn't crap, pandering to the lowest commen denominator, in a race to the bottom, with fighting and sex the only real draw to the show? (Baywatch)

Good science fiction, (READ my sig) ALMOST doesn't exsist in mass media.

I liked this episode, because it is always good to dere the Unas, they are so cool, but I have a couple problems. one, Chaka looked very different from when we first meet him in Season 4's "THe First Ones", and the fact that they killed the UNas so easily by shooting them a couple of times. mad.gif

Will wonders never cease

I actually liked this episode, i usually think unas episodes are shite, but this one surprised me. I liked it when Chaka came into the SGC, and how Daniel had worked with him,m how he was civil and didnt be violent at all. The whole episode was great, still not seeing alot of Jack tho eh

I think they are slowing edging him off the show. He might not even be there, except maybe for cameo roles, for season 8.

I have seen just one time this episode, so I don't know well this one but I don't understand one thing.
On Gateworld.net, we can see these following pictures, but I have not seen that during this episode.
Maybe it is because I do not pay enough attention, but I would like to check with you.
