I thought the device for capturing/ attracting the "shadow" was much like the episode of SG1 where they start seeing those large catepillars walking around and they have to quarrentine the whole area.

I also generally enjoy episodes that take place off world instead of lurking around the base. I was hoping to see more gadgets if they were gonna stay in the base the whole time.

I missed the Premiere eps (except for ten minutes or so at the end when Robert Patrick's character got killed), so this is my first one, and I must say I liked it quite a bit, from the opening sequence on. It had some genuninely honest character stuff that the SG-1 ep shown that same night was missing....yes, I too also liked how the two stories complimented each other. Very cool. cool.gif

I'm not that familiar with the characters yet, but I would expect there to be some rough spots since these are new characters and everyone (including the actors/writers) have to get used to them. I'm willing to give them the time based on what I saw.

The standouts for me were McKay and Sheppard, with some of the Scottish doc thrown in. I was actually laughing when Sheppard pushed McKay over the balcony, then they mentioned that wasn't the first thing they had tried...including shooting him..er...in the leg... laugh.gif

The ep was well paced too, and since I don't read spoilers I was always interested to see what was going to happen next. Very impressed with McKay turning the thing back on and going into the depths of that entity. The look on his face before doing so as he made the decision was terrifc.

I have to agree with Mith on this one. In some places I thought it was better than the SG-1 ep, partially because I'm still discovering what the pace of Atlantis is. It's similar to SG-1, but there are differences that I'm getting used to. I am surprised at how much I like atlantis and the plots.

The humor in atlantis is especially good, even without RDA. If TPTB could pull that type of thing off on stargate, I would root for a season 9.

Oh my! What a disappointing episode. At the moment the main cast are not gelling very well and the support cast seem very wooden, badly acted and miss-cast. It almost reminded me of an old battlestar galactica type of episode, with ships full of refugees, or in this case a city. Dont get me wrong the story is solid but the script and the support cast let it down in a big way. I would consider this on a parr with Sg-1's 'Emancipation' or maybe I was just expecting too much after last week's premiere. I know its a new series and it takes a while for the cast to click but lets hope they get it together quite soon and get on with it.

I though the episode was a little lackluster as compared to the pilot, but we shall see how it goes. I hope to finally at some point & the sooner the better, Teyla finally kicking alien butt as promised long before the show began. So far sadly she has been kind of relegated to the role of a supermom or something like that. huh.gif
Would gene theraphy really work as fast as it did in that ep.? unsure.gif

McKay was awesome laugh.gif

Weir needs to lighten up and stop actin like she does

Umm.. you mean acting like she is the leader of the expedition? smile.gif
She is the leader, and she was doing a good job of it to.

The only thing i saw that was remotly wrong in her behavior was expressing her doubt about what one of the Athosians had seen infront of that person (something i blame the writers on really, this woman is supposed to be a top negotiator so she should have some kind of tact).

And you should also note that Sheppard had the same doubt.

And im sure if O'Neill or Hammond where in charge they wouldnt just throw caution to the wind and trust the Athosians immidiatly.

(I blame all spelling errors on my swedish upbringing)

Okay, am I the only one who thought the black cloud was a much cooler villain than the Wraiths?

Hmmm....any chance that the black cloud was really Anubis, and after it/he went through the gate he dropped in on the Russian in the space station?

I don't know about having 3 Jacks. I'd say it's more like it takes the 3 funny guys on Atlantis to equal 1 Jack.

I thought the episode was kinda boring, but maybe because I had just seen an episode with the whole black cloud thing right before this one. I was like "Hey, it's Anubis." I do like the humor, though. smile.gif

I liked this Episode more than this weeks SG1 Episode. I'm really looking forward to Atlantis next week biggrin.gif

The humour was great! I found McKay extremely funny... I thought he was ment to be an ass like he was on SG1. His interactions with Sheppard were great too... "I shot him! ...in the leg". The look of glee on Sheppards face when he said that was awsome. cool.gif

I really like the talk about Ascention too. Knowing that the Ancients actually researched the possibility of Ascention is very interesting.

I didn't really like the theme song that much... Not as catchy as SG1's. Hopefully it will grow on me though. I also thought the intro sequence could have been better, more shots of the gate and such. But its the episode itself that matters, and that was great.

I really really need for Dr. McKay to come up with some far-fetched explanation about why all the human natives (descendants of the Ancients?) and the Wraith can all speak English with 21st Century American grammar and vocabulary (why not modern day Spanish or Mandarian?).

Perhaps the real reason General O'Neill turned down Daniel Jackson's request to go to Atlantis is because with everyone speaking American in the Pegasus Galaxay there would be no need for a linguist. (Did Dr. Weir even bring one?).

Since the universal translator has not been invented we can't have the usual Star Trek explanation. What is even more insane is that none of the characters seem at all suprised to be able to understand each other completely. I know this is an old SG-1 bug but this is a new chance to explain.

Why do the Wraith have human-like bodies and female breasts? I suppose the parrallel language development came with the boobs.

Atlantis makes RDA seem very old.

I liked this episode. Since I saw it before SG-1, I didn't find the shadow repetitive. I liked how this related to ascension, and that they are still discovering new things in the city. I also like McKay, he was great. I suppose I've always liked his character, but moreso on Atlantis. I hope they can figure out how to make the shield work again, and since only McKay can use it, they won't overdo the invincibility thing.

When Tayla suggested letting it go, I thought the address dialed earlier in the show was the shadow dialing its homeworld, and that they were going to send it there. I was apparently wrong, but I think it would've worked better since the shadow was sentient.

I thought that Lockdown and Hide and Seek were very similar-must have been writing them in parallel! MacKay was funny and it was moderately enjoyable.

So far i like Atlantis. Good story, nice the way it was related to SG1 plot.

I have to say i already have a Favourite character McKay. He is so funny. And i like the Scottish Dr. him and McKay have a good comedic Combo. Little bit like Jack/Daniel. The part where the green shield thingy fell off was funny. McKays expression.

I kinda agree. I wouldnt say "boring", but almost shocked that they would have such similar plots.

It was almost like they used the humour of the SGA episode to distinguish it.

I would have liked this episode better if it were shown before the SG1 episode.

Good first single hour episode to start the series, looks like it will follow the same format as SG-1,atlantis based episode one week, then an offworld based episode the next week.

Thought the dialling sequence at the end looked pretty cool, although am still a big fan of the animated chevrons locking into place on the sgc computer.

They should have sent the entity to the Wraith Gate,it might have solved two problems at once.

Except it would be floating in space rather than doing any productive Wraith killing... and the wraiths may be able to beat it.

Why would it be "floating in space" if sent to the Wraith planet?

It would flow out of the stargate and look for an energy source. Seemingly, the wraith equipment and the Wraith themselves would be the most obvious source.

If the Wraith did capture/kill it, great one bad guy taken care of. If not, they would have had additional problems on their planet

I have a theory about why both eps were a bit the same..

It's called "All the writers/producers are down the halls from each other", So I can imagine the story sessions kinda going something like this:

SG1 writer knocks on door of room where SA writer is working:
SG1: Hey
SA: Hi. What's up?
SG1. Not much. You doing anything with that whole black entity idea we were tossing around in the room?
SA: Yeah, I thought I'd make it something to do with the whole Ancient/Asension thing.
SG1 writer get peculiar look on his face.
SA: What?
SG1: Um, we were in the middle of writing Anubus's comeback as a black floating entity.
SA: You're kidding.
SG1: Uh...no.
SA: Hmm...
SG1: Yeah...
SA: Any chance we could both use it to sorta tie in with each other? I mean if that's cool with you guys.
SG1: Sure. It'll be fun.

yes, I'm joking folks...really...

Did I really see the Scottish Doc hang up his stethoscope after examining Dr. McKay who had his personnal shield activated? As if the stethoscope get through the shield when nothing else could. Oops.

The new Doc is the most natural and believable character on Atlantis.....aside from his "successful gene therapy within hours"! He would have been a good replacement for Dr. Frasier on SG-1.

Missed...pilot...Tivo on fritz...VCR not go that high in channels!!!

Ok, I feel better now.

I remember reading somewhere that you could download these episodes. Can someone supply the link/links needed for this?
bow.gif

or I could be interested in exchanging money with someone for a copy, either DVD/VHS, of the pilot in the St. Louis area. Please PM me if you are interested.

I liked Hide and Seek as did my wife. We are both suckers for well done humor.

I liked the shield thingy, but I'm glad it was drained. It could have been abused way too much.

As for the Wraiths...from the previews and the sneak preview show, they remind me of the Time Machine Morlocks, the more recent movie.

James
