New spoilers revealed by Gateworld for this episode:

Colonel Sheppard and his team visit an alien world with a tower apparently built by the Ancients, one that possess a control chair able to defend the planet from Wraith attack. In this way the people have survived for generations -- but only the line of the Lord Protector, the local ruler, has the Ancient gene that allows him to operate the chair.

After Mara, daughter of the Lord Protector, visits Sheppard's room to try to seduce him, the Colonel confronts Otho, adviser to the ruler. Otho confesses that the Ancient gene is fading in the royal bloodline with each generation, so that the ability of the Lord Protector to use the chair is no longer a certainty. It is his job to study the royal family's lineage to determine the best mates for the Lord Protector's children.

When the team arrived, Otho had used an Ancient scanner to examine Sheppard. He determined that Sheppard has the Ancient gene, stronger than anyone in their recorded history going back three hundred years.

Meanwhile, the Lord Protector's son Tavius is not going to give up his birthright so easily. He is next in line to the throne, and Otho tells Sheppard that the possibility of his sister bearing genetically superior progeny is a threat he will eliminate the first chance he gets.

Soon Tavius will be Lord Protector, as the current ruler is deteriorating more each day. Sheppard hopes they can help, and brings Dr. Beckett and Dr. Weir from Atlantis.

Lolz... i dont think so...

i recon that the whole protector thing falls apart, and all fo the "royal family" gets killed by a wraith attack, that sheppard defends the city... they steal the ZPM, and all the drones and run for it

its a shame that were not going to see another city like atlantis but an outpost is still cool i guess
it would have been nice to see a detailed ancient structure, there arcutecture is unique to say the least especially atlantis
what do u think sheppard will do to resolve the situation, atlantis needs those drones, maybe he could trade for them wink.gif
some of these people are decendants of the ancients (but the ATA gene is diluted)just like some members of the atlantis expedition team so they are potentially valuble allies!!

or not... the king is dying, and according to that spoiler, the next in line, doesnt want anything to do with us... so yeah

it would be preemptive to sleep with her. remember what happened to the genni, you help them, and they turn around and try to kill you.

giving them someone with the gene, is exaclty the same, wats to say, that int eh future, now they got the gene back, they wont become an enemy.

yea good point, they could turn out like the gennii but they would have ancient weapons/technology and a ZPM!
but atleast some people are decendants of the ancients so hopefully there not going to be too bad and we know that they do know how to use some ancient technology so maybe they could give the atlantis team a hand. i can see some major benefits an alliance with these people might offer

I think its quite simple how you avoid them becoming an enemy, you give them the gene activation retro-virus so that half the people gain the ability and thus see us as liberating them from the inequality of serving the protectors out of necessity.

If you free them from a bar steward like this meglomaniac Tavius and make it so they don?t have to give essential resources to individuals who have manipulated their desperation then they aren?t going to become an enemy? the new freedom will make them gracious allies, surely?

Then again us promising the Genii technological aid, sharing of information, aid, etc was enough to stop them from attacking us so what?s to stop these people becoming enemies who actually parallel our own Atlantis expedition?

no cause then when the realised we were more advanced, they just wanted to steal our stuff...

my bet is if they find out about atlantis, they will want to claim it as their own.. "right"

How about giving them the Gene Therapy thing, so they have the Gene, albeit it stronger.

stronger, so they can take us out.....

why dont teh asgaurd give us weapons... cause that would make us stronger..... even thought we are allies, they wont give us certain things. You gotta be careful, who says that giving them the gene is enough, we helped the genni steal information, helped them with knowledge, but they still wanted more..

who is to say even if we give them all teh gene, it will be enough, they will want more.... and more... just like the genii

That is why there is an Asgard on the Daedalus. The Asgard dont trust the human race so they assigned an Asgard to oversee the use of hyperdrive.

What's up with the Asgard not trusting us? We've saved their little grey behinds several times either because they've asked for our help or we've just been too determined to give up on them. Our relationship with them has been the closest Earth has gotten to having true "friends" from another world.

Unless, of course, you mean that the Asgard are afraid we'll blow ourselves up or something. whistling.gif

It's probably something like that. Chances are that if Earth scientists got their hands on the tech within Daedalus they would try to reverse engineer it to see how the Asgard tech worked.

Well, it seems to me purely from a rational point of view, that the Asgard should be happy to let us have the technology (with supervision initially, of course) because it would create a more powerful ally for them. It's been obvious that they need an ally like us. What they have in technology - they've lost in strength and determination. An equal alliance would fill in the gaps in each of our defenses.

You know, you bring up an interesting question for me. Since the release of the last SG-A season 2 title,"Allies," I've been contemplating whether "allies" as noted on another thread, means the Wraith have allies, or if Atlantis will. My first thought went to these people from "The Tower." Afterall, even though there might be a problem with the higher-archy, who is to say that in the end things won't turn out well for once? It seems all the other potential allies and recources that were going to work out for Atlantis have gone caputs! Maybe the producers will give the team a break for once? It would be sad to see such an opportunity to go to waste for potential allies once again...

I can't wait for this episode...of course, I've said that about all the SG-A episodes! laugh.gif

The "Tower" is the center tower of an Atlantis class city/ship. It's just buried!

Yes? And? Isn't that pretty obvious? Anyone who has seen the episode can work that out.
