QUOTE(Dafmeister @ Jan 14th 2007, 3:59 PM) *

Do we really need to be steeped in Ancient culture though? I can understand the inclusion of a couple of episodes per season that give us a bit more background to the Ancients and their society but I wouldn't want to see it to the extent where Daniel would need to be involved in Atlantis.

Well, not to an extremly extent. But, for instance, Atlantis living quarters are like dorms. They Have a mess hall. But if this is their "city", then I would expext the quarters to be more like apartments. They should have kitchens and things of that nature In any of the quarters I've seen, there is just a a bed.

I would have liked them to take like 10 minutes to say, "these are the living quarters, this is how they ate, this is where they went to work or school...

I would love to see Daniel in Atlantis but I don't think I will get my wish. They need someone who is an expert on Ancient not just their technology stuff

Is that fact supporting Daniel or against him?

I think she means they need someone like Daniel who knows more about them rather than another person like McKay who is pretty much an expert on their technology.
My arguement against a Daniel-like character (and Daniel himself) in Atlantis is that they rarely explore the archaeology of the Ancients and so an archeologist character wouldn't be all that much use.

I agree. There is no need for a archeaologist, when you are in the city in the same state as it was when it was being used (minus the residents). I'm not sure what the character Daneil could bring to the show. Beside the fact that it's Daniel Jackson, and we all love him.

Daniel could add his knowledge of Ancients, but that is all. Sam could add technology and be able to assist Mckay. Sam is also military and can assist Shep. But I don't see any of the main characters coming to Atlantis. I can see Siler or Walter, because they are back up. I don't see Dr. Lam going either because Beckett is a much better doctor. I don't see Landry because then he would take over from Weir. Much like Cam would take over for Shep, so that won't happen.

The writers set it up as two separate shows, and for the most part they need to stay that way except for a visit or two.

Well, it's definitly not staying two separate shows... Right now we're looking at one separate show, and I it's just wishful thinking that our favorite characters will stay alive.

i would defently like to see more than what we have seen so far about ancient culture, like how there civilisation came to be so great and what sparked the war and what happened in the last few days.

Don't count on Daniel ever appearing in Atlantis. Shanks has been offered apart in 24 and the rumours were that he wasn't going to sign on with Stargate again after season 10.

perhaps not but it'd still be nice to see him in a few episodes every season

I think the only way you would see MS on Atlantis is if his career outside SG1/Atlantis doesn't go anywhere. He left SG1 hoping for a career doing other things. It didn't pan out and he returned. Of course, he got what he wanted also. They gave Daniel more indepth stuff to do. smile.gif

I am hopeful that MS will make at least one ep in Atlantis I would like to see Daniel in a funny ep of SGA they really don't have many of those. Maybe like WoO there I would love to see Daniel go crazy having to same thing over and over again same day repeating. I still think they need a Daniel like character there that's what's missing IMHO.

He won't. Michael is not appearing in season 4 and it was rumoured that he was quitting SG-1 after season 10, if an 11th season had gone ahead. Don't count on ever seeing Daniel on the show.

Episode 100 of Atlantis would be episode 20 of season 5 but I doubt the show will make it to a fifth season.

SG-1 aired for 214 episode and Atlantis for 60 episodes up until now. They would need 26 more episodes to reach a 300 episode combination. Since that would be in Season 5, we would have to wait quite a long time to see it happening.

And I wouldn't say that the show will not have a fifth season until I see how the show is doing in Season 4. smile.gif

That's just one season after the upcoming season. I would hope they give them at least two years with no SG1 for support. If they didn't, I wouldn't watch Scifi at all.

It's had terrible ratings. Episode 11 of both shows got reasonably high ratings, around 1.5 but after that they fell to around 1.2.
The ratings appear on Stargate Solutions:
Stargate SG-1
April 13 - 10.11 - The Quest Part 2 - 1.5
April 20 - 10.12 - Line in the Sand - 1.1
April 27 - 10.13 - The Road Not Taken - 1.1
May 4 - 10.14 - The Shroud - 1.2
May 11 - 10.15 - Bounty - 1.2
May 18 - 10.16 - Bad Guys - 1.2
June 1 - 10.17 - Talion - 1.1

Stargate Atlantis
April 13 - 3. 11 - The Return Part 2 - 1.4
April 20 - 3.12 - Echoes - 1.2
April 27 - 3.13 - Irresponsible - 1.3
May 4 - 3.14 - Tao of Rodney - 1.1
May 11 - 3.15 - The Game - 1.2
May 18 - 3.16 - The Ark - 1.2
June 1 - 3.17 - Sunday - 1.1

I honestly don't see season 5 going ahead. Mallozzi himself (even as self confident as he is) has asked all fans to watch the show to boost the ratings. I think TPTB see the inevitable, that Sci-Fi will cancel Atlantis due to poor ratings and not choose to go ahead with Universe.

That just might be true, and it will be their own fault.

I have to agree with Daf. I don't see a season 5 for SGA in the works. In fact, after things that have happened this season and things that are projected for next season, I have doubts about them being allowed to even finish season 4.

Remember SGA will be by itself on Friday nights, no SG1 and no BSG. It has never heped the SG franchise to always split each season in half. The second half is held up from September until February. Except this past season it was held up until April. Why would anyone want to watch a show that they have heard about from everyone and everywhere else? It's so hard to not hear things that happened. The rest of the world gets the seasons straight through, no hiatus.

Why they do that in the US, I will never understand. It's here that they have the Nielsen ratings. You would think that the SCI-FI channel would want to set up the very best chance to succeed, but they don't.

Not much better. Galactica only gets slightly higher ratings than Stargate but season 4 of Galacitca is it's final season and Sci-Fi has guaranteed a 20 episode season along with a two part movie also being released on DVD.
