The Ark
Summary
The team boards a crippled space station to discover people have been preserved there with the hope to outlive their enemy, the Wraith.

Details
The team encounters two people who had been preserved in a technology designed to hold their patterns in an energy buffer. Stored like this, they hoped to outlive the Wraith. Over a thousand people have been preserved in this fashion.

Herick is the engineer behind the space station?s technology. He is released from his storage upon the team?s arrival. He restores Jamus, a leader of his people. Herick discovers that Jamus didn?t preserve his wife and son, while Herick claims that there wasn?t enough time. According to Jamus, the program was a secret and not all of the people could be preserved. When they launched their first shuttle of those to be preserved, the word got out and the people rioted. The second shuttle, the one on which Herick?s wife and son were most likely on, was delayed. They waited a day for the shuttle, but the Wraith came in the meantime. Fearing that the second shuttle?s navigational systems would lead the Wraith to their position, Jamus ordered that the second shuttle be destroyed. Afterwards, the entire planet was wiped out with nuclear weapons, making it uninhabitable for a very long time, ensuring that the Wraith would never return.

Herick is devastated, all hope has left him. No longer able to endure his grief and anger at Jamus, he commits suicide. His manner of suicide, however, leaves the rest of the people on the moon in danger as it begins to approach the planet?s atmosphere where it will burn up.

Because the entire population of the planet was killed, the people preserved in the storage device are the only survivors. Jamus takes Teyla hostage to guarantee that these last remaining people survive.

Sounds interesting but it also sounds a little bit like SG-1's season 7 episode "LIFEBOAT".

Well, only the survivors part does... the rest is all new it seems. Also, in Lifeboat, only the minds were stored in a computer because otherwise they would degrade.

But it is enough alike to not sound too interesting to me. They have been recylcing SG1 ideas ever since they began.

We've seen this concept way too many times... And once was very recent actually, in The Long Goodbye. The Ark must add something new or else, but I doubt it will be able to.

Sounds a lot like '48 Hours' too. As long as there is some character development (Major Lorne specifically) I'm not to bothered if the story is similar. TPTB have been doing that for a while now, it's nothing new.

I don't know it sounds interesting and kinda got my attention but this seems like they stole the idea from startrek. They used that "store your pattern in a buffer and survive for years thing" in many startrek next generation episodes the one with scotty is the one that comes to mind. I was kinda hoping that the survivors could be ancients or something but I guess summary rules that out.

I guess it kinda doesn't matter where they got the idea or if they have done it before as long as it is interesting.

The part with the wife and son dying is especially familiar. That was done in Lifeboat. I don't remember if the other ship launched in that episode, but I remember the wife didn't get to go, because it was a lottery. crying.gif

Yeah it was a lottery. If, and that is a huge IF, they do character development (Lorne), like Daf says, I can forgive it being the same type of story. If they do not develop any character, then it is just a rehash of the same old thing.

i'd be nice if these people could become allies after all they sound like they're fairly well advanced
maybe even moreso than us they could have better powersources than are availible to us which would be handy after all we don't want to burn out that precious zpm

This sounds simliar to a TNG ep about the people being preseved for later. I didn't see "Life Boat" what season of SG-1 is it from? I have seasons 1-3 and season 8 on it's way to my house I am determined to not be a Stargate Newbie anymore.

It's from season 7 and the episode is predominantly focused on Daniel. If you like Michael Shanks then you'll be pleased by 'Lifeboat'.

I would be most pleased to see more development of Lorne, I think his character is certainly worthy of more exploration. Just hope they do the episode justice and its not a re-hash...

Are the new episodes on hiatus from airing overseas right now?

I know the US is still waiting for the midseason break to end, but the first 5 eps of the second half have aired overseas, havent they? They seemed to have stalled though....whats the schedule for the international airing?

The UK has had the first ten episodes of both seasons. SG-1 restarts in the UK on January 9th (this coming Tuesday) with 'The Quest' part 2 and Atlantis restarts on January 10th with 'The Return' part 2.

Lol! Every damn year I wish I was in the UK around this time of year.

If I'd only win the damn lottery, I'd move there just to see the shows when they first come out!

Get somebody to record them on VHS or DVD, and then mail it to you.

Aren't you Canadian, where the seasons will still air before they do in the US?

Yes, they have been airing here in Canada already!

Mua ha ha ha ha!

It's the SG-1 stuff that hasn't aired yet, I think that's what he's talking about.

We should pool our resources, and take a nice UK vacation.

For this episode... will there be a twist? It would suck if the second ship never exploded, and that guy jumps into some sort of reactor without actual reason.

Not to harp on the same topic, but while Stargate from 1011 is not, Atlantis from 311 to 316 is...elsewise available for viewing, as evidenced by the star ratings on those episodes. Were those leaked, but not aired anywhere yet? Or, if aired, where and when, and will they continue to get new Atlantis episodes weekly at the same pace? I'm just surprised that Ark hasnt received a star rating yet, a few weeks after 316 has. Or did they just get the first five of the second half, and are waiting once again for the end of the season?

Canada is currently airing the second half of season 3 of Atlantis so Arc created the episode discussion threads. As the second half of season 10 hasn't aired anywhere yet, he hasn't created episode threads yet.
So far the US and UK have recieved the first half of each new season, Canada has had fifteen of the twenty season 3 episodes of Atlanits but no episodes of season 10 of SG-1, the UK will get the second half of the new seasons in a couple of days and the US will get the seond half of the new seasons in April.

No offense to anyone who liked this episode, but the ark was terrible......deserves a 1/5 >.<
