Season 1, Episode 10 - The Torment of Tantalus
Original Air Date: October 3, 1997 Daniel Jackson makes a remarkable discovery while going through film footage of Stargate experiments conducted in 1945. It seems that the early team, led by Professor Langford, succeeded in getting the Stargate to work, and that a young professor, Ernest Littlefield, actually traveled through the gate, never to return. |

Why didn't the old man dial home? Oh, wait, is that the episode where the DHD broke? Ouch, bad luck. Daniel found something about the meaning of life though, right? I think it was put there by the 4 Advanced Races. He should always have a DV cam on him. Bad luck.

Totally agree there, although a DV cam isn't that good at recording a three-dimensional holographic image... It tends to make everything look 2D. |

I always took that line in the script to be sarcasm. I don't think it actually has any significance, or at least none that he knows about. |

I know nothing of US government policy, but surely if one branch of the government did experiments years ago, why wouldn't they allow the next branch access to those studies. Sure, lose a man, cover up for the public, but for the government itself?!??!!?

Pity the woman who played the original Katherine wasn't alive when this episode was shot. I bet she would have done it, too.
S'pose they'll ever get James Spader to make a guest shot on the series? |

Actor Keene Curtis passes away
NOVEMBER 6, 2002 Actor Keene Curtis passed away on October 13, at the age of 79. The Tony-award winning actor of stage and screen is known to Stargate SG-1 fans as Dr. Ernest Littlefield in Season One's "The Torment of Tantalus." Curtis played Daddy Warbucks in a Broadway production of "Annie," and is also known for his role as John Allen Hill, the cranky upstairs restaurant owner in the long-running Cheers. He also made guest appearances on such shows as Star Trek: Voyager, The Pretender, E.R., Lois & Clark, Benson, M*A*S*H, and many others. Curtis died in Bountiful, Utah, of complications from Alzheimer's Disease, according to reports. |

He played "Old Man" in episode Sacred Ground
It's the episode where Kes in injured by being too curious and Janeway has to undergo some retarded ritual to save her. I think he's one of the older people in the "waiting room" |

Her or me? On second thoughts don't answer that LOL ussshorty I thought of that, but it seemed to go from European as a child, to perfect North American as a young woman, then back to European as she aged. Ahh, nitpick. |

Not always... thinking of the people I know in real life, once they've passed 18/19 or so their accents don't change so quickly anymore. Younger people do, they adapt quickly. But, ahh, save this for another thread sometime when I run out of things to post here

New clothes certainly, but this has to be one of the less believable plots, no? An old man living alone for 50 years? Didn't seem to be any structures he built, just wandered around making notes (where was that book when he originally went through the gate??).
It's not like he was a strong military mind that wouldn't give up, he was a geek scientist afterall. |
