This show is starting to grow on me.
McKay is very much like a Robery Picardo-esque "Doctor" character from Voyager, mixed in with a bit of Jack's humpr in a fit of anger, plus a bit of Mr. Spock from TOS. Sheppard is SOOOO getting on my good side. Loved when they were explaining football to Teyla. That's what the Stargate franchise is all about.....good story + humor + likeable characters= success. So far so good. Col. Rocks out. |

May I ask what it is with all of you comparing Stargate - or even SG-A for that matter to Star Trek they're two totally different shows for Pete's sake! Give it a rest with the Gater/Treky comparisons. No offence by the way... Yes, I agree with you Colonel', this show has been growing on me - but from the very start. I laughed at the Football and Hockey part...that was great...especially when they tried passing the popcorn to Mckay! Lol! You know, Atlantis is growing on me though, just like the SGC being Home...Atlantis is getting that place in my heart as well. And all the rest of the city they have yet to explore!! Its amazing, they have so much room to expand if they need to. Yes, all in all, this was a great episode, I hope it continues to bring such appeal. |

I agree......comparing the shows is getting a little old.....I mean it is true that the people in Atlantis know way less than the people in SG-1.......mainly cause Atlantis is a BRAND NEW show.....I love Atlantis and in my personal opinion think todays episode was kickass

Still can't get into it! Seems too derivative; I find myself constantly reminded of Star Trek and other shows' plot devices, stock characters, childen and/or females in danger, etc., etc., etc.
Am still occupying the Land of Meh ... and will until something really grabs me in this show. I find ALL of the characters intensely annoying, by the way. Their charisma quotient is so low that it's not even on radar. Bitch at me all you want; I'm totally unimpressed so far. ############# [Final Rip: The bowls of popcorn for the football game viewing sent me completely over the edge.... This was the silliest and most gratuitous nonsense, and it shocked me that any writer connected with the Stargate "franchise" would insult a fan's intelligence this way. Yeah, sure. Take a trip to another galaxy... And, oh, by the way, don't forget to bring some popcorn.... PULEEZE! Spare me. What crap.] |

I'm not too impressed so far either. But I think we still need to give it some more time. I'm sure once we get to know the characters etc it'll start to get alot better

Wow, no wonder you call yourself prickly pear! I find it interesting that you still go on with the comparisons about Star Trek, if you want to do such things after I explicitly asked that we hang such base comparisons on such two totally different shows, please, take it to a Treky forum. This is afterall about stargate, not startrek. I personally find the popcorn part quite appealing. I bet most people that discredit the show so would not as much if it were Jack with that popcorn. If you wish to bash into Atlantis, and dislike it so much, don't watch it, don't even comment about its "stupidity" and keep your fingers typing such felgercarbon on the SG-1 side of this forum. |

Hey, Aquila! Not everyone shares your blind passion for Atlantis. To me it looks like a huge intergalactic sleep-away camp, with lots of weenies, candles, popcorn, and Gameboys....Are S'mores on the menu next week?
Leave PP alone; if this show reminds him of (dare I say it!) Star Trek, then fine. You're trying to exercise thought control over this thread. Stop it. We're all entitled to our opinions here -- it WAS an Internet democracy the last time I checked. |

I do not have a "blind passion" for it, I do see PP's point but at least I don't rant and rave about the show's misconduct in the same brash way! Fine, if it reminds her of star trek than fine, just quit making all the comparisons to two totally different shows! This is and SG-1 and SG-A forum, not a treky stargate comparison base! And yes we're all entitled to our own opinions, but that doesn't mean we should be outright blatantly trashing the newby show on the block. This forum is to have well thought cognitive discussions, not half witted ones, where all they say are the downside of things. This new section isn't meant for a negative pounding by all the ingrates with their lame comments on how "bad the show was." I'm tired of hearing all the negative, that is why I hardly express my own negative attitude to the show, we get enough from people as prickly as PP! I never said you had to stop watching the show, I asked that you don't if you hate it so much! I mean, why would people that hate and have all negative things to say about a show watch it? Nuff said, back to discussion. This post has been edited by Aquila: Jul 24th 2004, 3:58 PM |

It's impossible to get through to you. You're the one "ranting and raving." Calm down; have a drink; take a Prozac. Lower your hackles, my friend.
It's only a tv show! I've read a lot worse from other contributors to these forums than what Bel' and I have been saying. You shouldn't start a topic if you can't take the responses it will get. Rather than bitching at all of us for contributing to your topics, why don't you stop posting them for a while until you feel better. P.S. Bel's the girl; I'm the guy. |

Sorry for the gender confusion. The point is, I'm not getting responses, I'm getting negative signals bleeping on overload. I hear this non stop throughout the whole of the fourm, and I'm getting tired of it. Not a drop of enthusiasm...nothing has been inherent for a while now. Except for criticism. Precisely, your not contributing at all, thats the whole point. I may need to ice over, yes, but the rest of you need to shape up, as well as the forum. Do you know how it feels to be the only one that tries to keep things on a more controlled and posotive side? There is no contribution here, just critic. No cognotive discussions...just outright beligerance to a overly beleagured show. It hardly has any respect...I'm trying to give it some, but all I get is negative feed back through this tarn PC. No, I don't feel good, of course it doesn't help that I've just gone through jaw surgery..but heh...I come here so I can relax and enjoy some good discussions on a new burgeoning show - just blossoming, but all I get is felgercarbon. Let's get back on topic, PLEASE. PS. I don't have hackles, I have upper tail coverts. This post has been edited by Aquila: Jul 24th 2004, 4:37 PM |

Atlantis is still trying to find it's stride. I did enjoy McKay's part in this episode, just as I enjoyed Sheppard in the two-part season premiere. Teyla, still has not grown on me, but I am assuming that we will learn more about her later. Dr. Weir still needs to show that she is in command, and I'm sure that will come. Just the fact the the ep's, directors and writers are the same is enough to make me continue to watch.

I agree. I think that the first few episodes, even a full year of a new show takes a while to get the kinks out. The first year of Stargate was weak compared to its second, and the second year was weak compared to the fourth year.
I think so far so good, I like the show. If you don't like it, that's fine too, but I would recommend you give it a year. |
