New details on the episode entitled 'Sanctuary' have now surfaced. The episode is written by Alan Brennert and will be directed by James Head.

When the Atlantis team travels to the distant planet of Procul-Arum. A place in which McKay thinks is just too good to be ture, and for once he may be wrong....

Once on the planet the team meets a woman called Chaya, who is the high priestess of Athar. Athar, a goddess that the people of Procul-Arum pray too. The people of the planet know nothing of war, sickness, and are always happy. The Atlantis team hopes that thye can use Procul-Arum for the sanctuary of those made refugees by the depredations of the Wraith. The team brings Chaya back to Atlantis, where she explains to them that her planet is protected from the Wraith by Athar, and Athar will not allow outsider colonization of Procul-Arum.

Meanwhile, McKay is sceptical of Chaya and her beliefs about Athar. He believes she is some kind of trogan horse, and he decides to investigate.

McKay exposes Chaya for who she really is, Athar, a Ancient in human form. Athar was punished by the others for interferring when the Wraith came to conquer her world. Her punishment was to protect that planet's people for the rest of time. The catch is, she cannot allow others to settle their for it would bring the wrath of the others upon her.

During the episode, Sheppard and Chaya/Athar begin a relationship and are attracted to each other. They also do the sharing of souls thing that Carter did with the Anceint man from season 5's 'Ascension'.

'Sanctuary' should begin filming somtime early next week.

That's what I don't get. If the Ascended-Ancients don't interfere with the inferior-races why don't help the other Ancients? or normal Ancients r considered as inferior as well?

You are right "The Doctor" havent seen such a storyline in a while, seems like a real nice one. I really cant wait for this episode. Its nice to see ancients. we still have to learn a lot about ancients and their way of thinking.
Finally a very very interesting episode

I wouldn't say that. Most of the Episodes have been extremely interesting, what with all the Ancient Tech the team is learning about, as well as the Ancients.

This is cool, now we know that either an Ancient (ascended) traveled to the Pegasus Galaxy, or learned to Ascend whilst still in Pegasus, hopefully this episode will give us some more info on what happened to the Ancients in this Galaxy. king.gif

Oh, and here's the link to GateWorld for the News...since Arcady didn't give it:

Finally even though I have found Atlantis very entertaining this is the one plotline i wanted to be elaborated on so i am definitely happy.

The primary reason I am so happy is that we will finally get to talk to an ancient, in detail, about her culture. Her memories of Atlantis when it was inhabited by the ancients will be valuable enough, never mind the fact that we will actually be able to understand her... (" Meal cooked long time ago" crap is not what I want from a supreme being because it?s confusing not philosophical)

Other than that it sounds like an excellent storyline, seeing the character of Athar will be excellent, can you imagine the emotional torture she has endured. Imagine being forced to live eternity isolated from the rest of your people and then on top of that not begin able to help anybody from other worlds with your powers.

My word this should make interesting for character depth! I can't wait to see it!

Wow! This is interesting, The Ascended can travel that far!!! "The Others" being both in the Pegasus and Milky Way galaxies indicate that they can travel that far. They've both got the same attitude towards mortal life and share the same rules and beliefs in both galaxies so it's unlikely that they ascended seperately.

Hmmmm, Dr Weir is gonna be a tad jealous of this new chick hehehe

Yep, quite a torture.
Question:
Could she "descend" herself or did she decided to stay ascended in order to be able to protect that planet in case the Wraith would come?

Hey, I'm just readong spoilers for episodes that I'll only be able to watch in several months.
THAT is torture.

I really like how SG1 and Atlantis are both exploring the Ancients during this season. I have to assume that most people are watching both shows, so I wonder if the information we learn will be duplicated in the shows, or the info from each show will complement that of the other. Ohh! I can't wait to find out.

lol
so true
but they should lay their hands of earthlings and fish on some of their own ancients.

i wonder when will someone fall in love with jack o niel? apart from that female on whose planet jack was stuck for a few months.

now Jack seriously needs to get laid its been a while since he ever had fun apart from the time when he got laid and then started to get old like the other people on the planet

Wow, another descended ancient, what will they come up with next. Any how, I do want to see this epidsode. Maybe this one could be a liason between the Alantis Team and the Ancients. Lots of other parts like if the Ancients won't help the other humans in the Pegasis Galaxy, why would they help the ones with from the Milky Way Galaxy. Well, it could be since that we were the only hope from being destroyed from the wraith that when these Ancients learned that they have yet not been ever detected by them that it could let to other epidsodes that get more in dept with the Ancient Technology. Like powering the Alantis Defense Shields, or to ones that lets us get more technology from them. Then that info could be sent back to earth 'eventualy, and then technology to defeat the Evil Gou'al can happen.

Well don't know about you, just to site and wait for the next half of Alantis to Air, and for the 7th season of Star Gate, should be out around 19th of Oct. So keep your eyes peeled for it.

Anything that brings us new knowledge of the ancients, I'm all for. So far all we know is what Oma has implied, Daniel has repeated, and what Orlin divulged to Sam. Even the Harcesis child was rather ambiguous in what he told Daniel. I would hope that whatever is revealed will compliment what has already been told on SG1.

Yes... sounds like a great episode... I hope she doesn't give them one of these stupid reasons why she can't tell them anything worthwhile... If she can't allow others to come to her planet, maybe she'll at least help them make the best use of Atlantis and Ancient technology...

As good as the first half of the season was - the second half sounds like it will be even better... i can't wait!

I'm wondering... if this planet has been protected by the Wraith, have the people been able to advance technologically - at least to the levels of Earth?

I agree...

She'll probably give them some insight into the Ancient?s past... but not much along the lines of advanced technology.
