She could've been an ancient experiment. You've never seen a wraith feed off of another wraith. So, the ancients could have thought that including wraith DNA into humans would keep the wraith from eating them.

Colours and races are a *bit* different. SciFi pulled out very alien lifeforms and very humanoid lifeforms. There are a few thnigs in the Wraith physiognomy that would irk me. |

I like the idea of Teyla being an ancient experiment. They gave thier decendants a fighting chance in the one way they could... their genes. Knowing when they are around is a pretty good step in defending oneself. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Ah, Ms Wraith...where do I shove it in?
You've got no nipples to s_ck on, how do I pleasure you? Perhaps they're more like us on the inside...they might be wearing a bodysuit of somesort that hides their private bits. That's only if you're wondering how to copulate with the Wraith. Perhaps they do it all in a petri dish. I'm sure that the Ancients just did a bit of gene splicing since they made that gene machine that Nirti was playing with rather than physically blending two species through copulation. The machine would be able to introduce specific genes rather than leaving it to chance and having a half half hybrid species. |

Maybe her original heritage was the Wraith She never had the chance to use any Ancient Technology. And I keep hearing "The Ancients," "The Ancients," "The Ancients;" dont they have any other name which they call themselves lol |

Nope.
Some of them died, some of them ascended. Maybe one of them is still alive, who knows. |

I would like to bring up that O'neil was able to heal and activate Ancient technology after getting his head stuck in one of those ancient devices. So unless that device injected O'neil with the genes as well as knowledge of how to us it.....
Doesn't explain how the Asgaurds were able to remove the information from him without(?) contact. "The 5th Race" I think is where that was shown. Also, the wraith have eaten other wraith, "The Defiant One" |

just a thought - but I dont remember seeing how the wraith reproduce....
To me they are modelled on vampires... and vampires tend to bite their victims then, let them feed from them.... so maybe teyla isnt decended by them... but was in the middle of being turned by them... could be a possibility!? SG1 has been kinda slow this year (except this weeks skyone episode in uk with repli-carter! I cant wait until it gets to the point where the gould, replicators and wraith fight it out to be the big bad of the galaxy! Did it hear right in this week episode of sg1 that our buddy Thor was preparing an experimental hyperdrive to get to atlantis?? That wouldnt be wise! :S Lemme just say this site rocks... i only just found u guys but initial looks say its a cool site so well done! |

Consider this for a moment...
The gene does not "activate" the technology... The ancients designed their technology to sense the gene. So, the technology has an integrated biometrics device to prevent technologically inferior races from using the technology to destroy themselves, as with the Tolams, the Nox, the Asguard, the Tok'ra, etc. The asguard have never provided a weapon to the earthlings that could be used on anything but the replicators. They have provided scanners (currently installed in the gate room) and engine modifications using earth technology to increase efficiency. The Tok'ra have provided no technology to us aside from the toxin to destroy the Goa'ould (SG1 5x15-16 - Summit & Last Stand) and a ring platform for the X-303. The Tolan learned their lesson whenthey gave a fusion power source to another planet in their solar system, and a day later they blew up their planet, ultimitely leading to the Tolan's need to leave Tolan to go to Tolana. And, the Nox know better. There is no reason to assume that the Ancients were any different, especially guven their response to Wier in "Before I Sleep". And the whole not seeing a "living" ancient is untrue. You may want to review SG1 3x20 - Maternal instinct. In this episode, SG1 and Bre'tak go to Kheb and find a temple. There, they meet the monk there who "taught" Daniel to light a candle with his mind. He was not ascended, as the Jaffa shoots him, and he dies and ascends. He was there to teach those who wished to ascend how to, so that Ohma Desalla did not encounter the wrath of the others. Now for a little trivia... Who here knows where the writers came up with the title "Before I Sleep"? Answer Click For Spoiler Hint! Click For Spoiler This post has been edited by projectle: Dec 31st 2004, 2:04 PM |

I like the idea of her having some wraith dna .. would be interesting.
Also it would be interesting to see one of the atlantis team immune to the wraith. How would the wraith view that person? A Threat? Someone to ignore? If female a breeder for the wraith (if the wraith can do that)? etc etc |

i don't want to give too much away but Dr. Jane Heightmeyer is hot.
oh yea its a wraith experiment not ancient. it was an experiment to make the feedings more compatable. it made teyla part wraith. she can use wraith devices and has a telepathic link with them. about how the wraith reproduce is strange. they were originally buglike creatures so eggs or something but since they had a queen maybe its like a bee hive or ant colony. Since they can live for an extremely long time i don't think they have really produced any offsprings in a while. they came in to being humandod from feeding on people after the ancients first arrived. about jack. he has the ancient gene since he can fly a jumper. the ones with the gene are more qualified to hold the repository but still can't handle it after a long time. cuz were still not using 100% of our brains. wonder how it would affect someone without the gene. maybe they can't downlload the repository in to thier brain cuz they don't have the gene. about the healing ability i'm thinking its related to the knowledge in his head, hey the brain can do alot. right? lol and i think i would call the ancients..... atlantians cuz that what they are. QUOTE(coaldat6 @ Oct 4th 2004, 10:23 PM) Right - so i guess she doesn't have that gene, but maybe she has a different Ancient gene... that's my only guess as to how she could sense the wraith Dunno if sumbodies metioned it already but: THE ANCIENTS DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO SENSE THE WRAITH. THE PEOPLE THAT THE WRAITH SCIENTIST EXPERIMENTED ON HAVE THAT GENE BECAUSE HE TRIED TO CROSS Wraith and Human DNA! I wrote that in caps so it would be noticable |

In this episode Teyla starts to feel the Wraith. When Sheppard finds the necklace "Rising Part 1" and gives it to her, it activates a Homing beacon (because it is keyed to her DNA) so when the team would go to a planet that has a wraith device that lets them know she is there and they show up.
She does not have any Ancient Gene but does have Wraith DNA in her. Link to her BIO http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teyla_Emmagan A quote in the bio "After recurring nightmares, it was discovered that Teyla's ancestors were experimented on by a Wraith scientist. The scientist attempted to make humans a more palatable food-source by splicing Wraith DNA. While the scientist and most of its subjects were terminated by the Wraith, who viewed the experiments with disgust, Teyla also possessed some of the Wraith DNA. This explains why Teyla was able to detect the Wraith prior to their approach -- and why Teyla believed there to be a Wraith on Atlantis. ("The Gift")" |
