Season 4, Episode 6 - Window of Opportunity
Original Air Date: August 4, 2000

Stargate Command is trapped in a temporal anomaly, but only Jack and Teal'c seem to be aware of the fact. They are faced with the dual task of convincing everyone that they're reliving the same six hours over and over again, and trying to find a way to break the time loop.

300 replies...wow that's cool.

I think Jack was starting to become slow in this episode.
like, you know how people are saying he is so much differnet now than when he was in the first season?
i think it startewd to show here..just a slight bit...but then it really picked up again...and the acting in this episode by RDA was really good.

WOW, 300 replies, that shows the interest that this episode generates. It's one of the better ones, and so funny! Even though a lot is adlibbed, it's still great. you can tell that CJ and RDA had a lot of fun with this episode.

I've been waiting to see this one for a while. My girlfriend keeps telling me how funny it is! Luckily it's coming up this month on SciFi.

Guys... i find that to moderate you need rules to work by... and we have them, here, and if you have questions about them you can choose the relevant area here
now i know that the term "spamming" is pretty wide but basically i class anything less than two lines spamming... now occasionally i let a couple slip if they are adding something to the conversation... or on the other hand if the person writes 100 lines of total BS i class that as spamming as well.. obviously.

Now i know that 300 is a big number but get over it... so i kindly ask that people no longer mention it and add something worthwhile... it makes me feel so much better and just helps make the forum a better place.

please do not trouble yourselves with writing "sorry" i know you didn't intend it to turn out like this... but please create a conversation!!! and if people haven't watchced it why don't you ask questions about it or something... use your imagination.

As much as I enjoy all the humor in this episode, it always reminds me of starting over with new relationships--whether with a romantic partner, or step-parent/child, or medical practioner, or with everyone when you move somewhere.

But the title of the episode implies that the golf and the kiss were most important to those who created it.

IA, this episode was an "opportunity" for the shippers, to have that Jack/Sam moment, without any repercussions. In fact, Jack and Teal'c had the best expressions on their faces when Daniel asked them, "did you ever think about there being on consequences because of what you do, because you just do it over and over again?" Listening to the commentary with this episode, it is quite obvious that both CJ and RDA had a ball with it, and were allowed to ad-lib at will.

Very funny episode granted, but i do not think that RDA put any kind of an effort to act well in this particular episode. Also after Daniel's comment we see both Teal'c and Jack leaving their posts to go have a blast. I think they should have emphasised more on what Teal'c was off doing, the way they did with Jack....

Well Teal'c got a little payback with that guy and the door, and the golfing, I'm sure was CJ's idea. He's an avid golfer and has his clubs with him all the time.

You may be right about CJ giving the idea but from the characters point of view it was certainly not suggested by Teal'c. So the only thing we see Teal'c do is bang that guy with the door.

Maybe the whole point of seeing Jack cut lose so much is that on the base, for the most part, Jack is pretty much by the book. He is their commander and leader after all. Other than hearing him talk about going fishing all the time, we never see him just be jack, relaxing, and doing something non-military. Whereas with Sam, for her, relaxing is still doing something scientifically. With Daniel, reading all those text is still his off-time thing to do. At this point in time, Teal'c is still doing kelnoren. So this was their way of showing Jack unwinding.

That's precisely what I get out of this episode. The frustration we have in real life of doing the same things over and over without being able to really benefit from the experience sufficiently to really learn, change, and grow.

First i have to say...Wow 300 replies, i think that's fantastic!

this has to be my Fave episode. i think the whole concept of groundhog day is brilliant and as for the fact that o'neill was stuck in it made me love it. it couldn't have liked as much as i do if it wasn't jack gatting trapped in it.

and yeah the fact that carter and o'neill always have moments when they both don't know about it is completely irritating. but i do like the fact that at the end of the episode jackson asks jack if he did do anything, (since there were no consequences) and all jack does is stare at carter. i loved that! laugh.gif

Well, we all must remember that the funny bits were only put in because the episode ran short...so i guess CJ must have had the idea for the golf and RDA for the juggling.

The episode does get repeattve at the start and i think they could have done something about that

that's true...in one of the 'behind the scenes' on the dvd, the producers talk about how they always wanted to have a scene with jack hitting a golf ball through the stargate and this episode was the perfect opportunity to add it in.

i agree. it was quite boring at the beginning. but still a fave!

the title of this episode had 2 meanings then.
i'm glad though that Jack was upset, like when they were trying to stop it all from happening again and he mentions his son and talks about the loss of his son and the emotion on his face was so good.

This one was hilarious!!!

I can't believe I am the first one to say this...I tend to get literal sometimes, but Teal'c must have been slammed in the face at least 214 times (assuming they started in a non-leap year Feb and ended in March (28+31+30) * 2.4 (Because each loop was only 10 hours long and so they would have looped 2.4 times a day))!

And given that it would have taken them at least an hour+ to convince Hammond and the rest each time! OY!!!!!

I'm surprised that they didn't have them really going off the deepend by the end. Imagine being conscious for at least three months without having a chance to let your mind rest (I realize that as far as their bodies were concerned, they kept getting reset and so no toxins had built up, but still!

James

PS. My wife said she was surprised that Daniel didn't try and do something outragious once the idea was planted. On the other hand, if Daniel only came up with this a few times and it happened at the end of each loop...

Sometime later...

Oh, I just had another thought, what if they had already been part of the loop, but previously, Jack and Teal'c hadn't been hit by the beam! There really is no way of knowing how long they really were looping...

James

And didn't Jack & Teal'C not get hit with the anti-looping beam the first time they went back? Shouldn't that have cause them to be in the loop of those who don't know they're looping? And, hey, how do we all know we're not looping? huh.gif

shouldn't Teal'c have bruising on his head or because of the looping the bruise would not be there?
Would their previous loop have no affect on their bodies?
