| SyFy Channel Cancels Stargate Universe |
The Syfy Channel's Craig Engler posted via Twitter that Stargate Universe is being canceled (first reported by Deadline.com). "Syfy will end its original action-adventure series Stargate Universe when the show returns with the final 10 episodes of its second season in the Spring of 2011," Engler said. "The Stargate franchise" consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe "has aired on Syfy since 2002." Stargate has been on the air continuously since 1997 when SG-1 debuted on Showtime. No future Stargate series is planned at this time. | |  |

| SyFy Replaces Friday Programming with Wrestling |
Starting in October, Syfy will begin airing WWE's Friday Night Smackdown in place of long-running Friday night drama series, such as Stargate Universe and Sanctuary. According to the Hollywood Reporter, "there's nothing more sci-fi than ... competitive wrestling." We believe that this marks the beginning of the end for the troubled network, which rebranded itself as "SyFy" last year. By distancing itself from its science fiction roots, it seems to have lost its identity. | |  |

| Season Five Given the Green Light by Sci-Fi |
From a report in Variety: The Sci Fi Channel has given a fifth-season renewal to "Stargate Atlantis," commissioning 20 fresh episodes. " 'Atlantis' truly came out from under the shadow of its sister series this year and proved that it's a hit in its own right," said Sci Fi's Mark Stern, exec veep of original programming.
