Thus far, that's it. We know that Joe was written an episode which is called Epiphany.
Source. I wonder how good he is as a writer. Of course, his script will probably be tweaked, but the premise has to be good at least. |

Well Joe has been getting really into this, so its no surprise he's started writing some. I predict that it'll be a good show, he might get some help, but hey its his writen show!

I'm glad to hear that Joe has written an episode for Atlantis...I remember an episode where Michael Shanks wrote the script and Amanda Tapping directed it for SG-1.
I think it's really good when they do these things. |

I read the interview and Joe Flanigan sounds like a very intelligent, well-read guy. Thoughtful. Now I'm really interested in seeing this episode, especially since he was being so secretive about it.
Ben Browder wrote one for Farscape and I was pleasantly surprised at its' complexity. Nice to know Ben and Joe aren't just pretty faces. |

According to Joe Mallozzi at Gateworld, Joe Flanigan isn't actually writing the script for Epiphany at all.

That's just weird. JamesBHOY - did those interviews have a date? The interview with Joe Flanigan in which he states that he is writing Epiphany is dated April 4th.
QUOTE Flanigan also said that the episode he has written is in fact on the production slate for this season. The working title is "Epiphany. From a Gateworld article dated April 7th. QUOTE ME: Oh, now. Are you going to be one of those actors over there who eventually writes and directs episodes? JF: Probably one of those. Actually, I have written an episode they?re doing for this season. ME: Title? JF: Well, the working title is ?Epiphany.? ME: Any chance you?ll tell me what it?s about? JF: No. From About.com dated April 4th |

Sounds like Joe actually wrote it from the About.com article. Also sounds like it was subsequently scrapped by Malozzi and company.

QUOTE I believe the interviewer misheard Joe or what Joe meant to say was that he scripted a draft of the outline for Epiphany It sounds like came up with the ideas, scenarios that were to go into Epiphany. Basically what the episode was to be all about. Since it was only a draft, I doubt they put a majority of it in unless it was a really good draft. However he must have asked them himself or been asked to come up with one. So to keep him happy as he's probably the shows main character they will put some of it in. |

Look at how far into SG1 that the cast started to get involved in story writing and episode direction. The cast of Atlantis is still relatively new, maybe the TPTB on Atlantis want them to concentrate on acting for the moment. Personally i would prefer the writers to continue the stories and set the basis for Atlantis then allow the cast to write and direct episodes in later seasons.

Here is some more information for the "Epiphany" episode just posted from Gateworld:
WARNING: Spoilers Below "We came up with an idea where I get stuck on a planet that has a different time ratio, and I actually age faster," Flanigan revealed. "I go through the threshold and I'm waiting for McKay and the rest of the team to go through, and they don't come through. And a year goes by and I'm stuck on this planet with these other people, and I've got a beard and everything else and I've become sort of the de facto sheriff. "And McKay shows up and only five minutes has gone by in his world. And, of course, I say, 'Where the hell have you been?' And he says, 'What are you talking about? It's only been five minutes.' "And it's a planet of people who are going to ascend. And the Ancients went onto this planet and to get away from the Wraith they put it under a different time dilation device, a different time ratio, and they ascended. And there's a group of people who weren't capable of ascending, and those are the people we deal with." "Epiphany" wasn't the first idea that Flanigan pitched to the show's producers. "I had an idea for 'The Man Who Would Be King,'" the actor said. "It was me and McKay discovering Z.P.M.s and becoming greedy and kind of drunk with power. And I thought that that would make for a great episode. And I got the standard reply that I always get when I pitch a story, which is, 'Oh, we did that on SG-1, Joe. Episode 157 ... haven't you seen it?' "And so we had to come up with an episode that obviously hadn't been done, which is very difficult because Stargate has been on the air for a few thousand years." Executive producer Brad Wright is writing the teleplay for "Epiphany," which is expected to go before cameras shortly after the cast and crew return from their summer hiatus in July. The episode will likely air in January on The SCI FI Channel. Original Article, here |

i read a fanfic once that had a very similar plot. sg1 left a planet but jack and sam were left behind. teal'c and daniel spent about an hour trying to return before they could but jack and sam were on the planet for several years thus producing a few kids and a WHOLE load of problems when they returned. sound similar? |

Sounds huge. Wow, I'm looking forward to the later season 2. On a side note, I dislike how they're messing up time spans again...
If the Ancients left 10,000 years ago, and 5 minutes equal one year under the time dilation, since then 1 billion years have passed on the planet. I hope they'll give an explanation why that is not so! One billion years, until Sheppard, the Sheriff, the Messias arrives. This post has been edited by ted_simple: Aug 11th 2005, 5:57 AM |
