This storyline is quite interesting,

QUOTE
Teyla and Ronon visit the Belkan trading community, where one of Ronon's former military? comrades shows up in a bar. He and Solen served together in the same regiment on Atteria, and? Ronon learns for the first time that not everyone from his planet was taken or wiped out? by the Wraith. Ronon had been captured by a culling beam -- but before the city they were? defending fell, a few military personnel, politicians, and over 300 civilians made it safely? to a secret bunker.

? Atteria was annihilated, and the survivors relocated to many other worlds to preserve their? race. Some settled with the Belkans, some with the Manarians.

? As the two continue to drink and reminisce, Solen reveals that Ronon's old Task Master,? Kell, was among the survivors. He and his family settled on Belsa, where he runs a? trading operation and has built a personal army. There is no closer bond than the one between? an Atterian military trainee and his Task Master. But Ronon grows deadly serious, and is? determined to find Kell and settle some unfinished business.

? Meanwhile, McKay and Zelenka lead a team of scientists in an attempt to repower a device of? some kind -- quite possibly a newly-discovered weapon.

Nope, this is the Spoilers and Speculation forum so spoiler tags arent needed. If you dont want to be spoiled its probably best to avoid threads in this forum.

Which episode is Ronon Dex introduced?

Looks like it could be a good episode. Perhaps one where Teyla gets a bit more screen time for some of that much needed development. Teyla is in danger of becoming a very boring character otherwise.

Ronon Dex is introduced in Runner.

This sounds like Dex's people had some tech - or does it just come off that way to me?

It sounds like they had a city and a military and a political system.

So far all we have seen are the secretive genii and they dont look like they could handle wraith any better - so heres the staement of the week: DEX'S PEOPLE WERE THE MOST ADVANCED IN THE P GALAXY APART FROM WRAITH AND US.
Before the wraith wasted them.

It says he is a weapon expert - this makes me think he may even be from a people far greater technologically than even earth.....i mean...our regular military have no idea about ebergy weapons but this guy seems like he knows stuff about everything!

Might be reading too much into it.

Ancient-Wraith war explored in 'Trinity'

The upcoming Stargate Atlantis episode "Trinity" will touch on the war between the Ancients and the Wraith fought millenia ago, according to new spoilers acquired by GateWorld.

Beware of spoilers below!!!!!

"McKay (David Hewlett) may have found a new and potent source of energy for Atlantis based on unperfected Ancient technology.

"While doing standard recon on a planet thought to have been destroyed by the Wraith long ago, the team finds an Ancient structure standing intact amidst the ruins. After some investigating, they discover that the monolith served as a military research facility where the Ancients worked to develop an advanced method of harnessing energy. When the Wraith attacked before the project could be completed, the underdeveloped technology malfunctioned and destroyed the civilization.

"McKay theorizes that if the powerful technology is fully developed, it could serve as a potent source of energy for Atlantis. Hope turns to fear, however, when McKay's first attempt at reviving the energy source results in the death of one of the Atlantis scientists.

"Despite the team's apprehension, a determined McKay insists on moving forward with finishing the project. But can McKay unravel the intricacies of the Ancients' technology without putting himself and Sheppard in mortal danger?"

Meanwhile, new team member Ronon Dex explores his own tumultuous past when he learns from a former fellow Atterian soldier that Kell, Ronon's former military trainer with whom he has unfinished business, is still alive.

It kind of bothers me that McKay would be able to make such an advanced piece of technology work when the Ancients couldn't. I know that he's brilliant and everything, but it does seem a bit much to believe.

The Ancients at the colony were wipped out because it malfunctioned durring a Wraith attack. The Ancients could have been very close to perfecting it, and they were just unlucky that it malfunctioned.

Does not meen the Ancients couldn't.

I meen if we were making an Atom bomb in the manhatan project and one suddenly exploded killing all the scientists, it does not meen we were unable to perfect it.

Just that we did not have any unlucky malfunctions.

The Ancients were probably litterally done with the basics of it, and just were tweaking it when it malfunctioned.

If they are researching a new advanced method of harnessing energy, you would think it would be even better and more powerful than the ZPM tech, so that sounds pretty exciting. And considering a ZPM could destroy a solar system, maybe McKay does blow something up severely!!

Cool!

I don't think they would do this because it is too similar to SG-1.

Yes, but they still can't make it too similar to SG-1 because there would then be no excitment in Atlantis. The fans are just going to feel like this has been done before. Even though they are two different shows they are both still part of the Stargate Saga.

That's kind of the concept behind Zero Point energy, only air isn't involved. It's commonly described as getting energy from a vacuum, but it's actually borrowing energy from the fabric of space time and if it works, it's already far more powerful than atomic energy, or even matter-anti-matter reaction. That's "if it works", because right now, the science behind it is looking really shakey.

That's why I think they got their terms screwed up when they say that a ZPM is "empty" or "half full" or whatever. If it's really is a Zero Point energy device, it's would be drawing power from the surrounding space/universe. You really can't run out of power unless you've seriously screwed up local space to the point where you can't draw juice from it anymore. Assuming it's really ZP energy, and the writers didn't just randomly grab a term they liked, then the ZPM are probably either broken or some of the components aren't working at peak efficiency due to age.

Anyways, no matter what your energy source though, you still need a physical apparatus to get it into a form you can actually use.

I agree and what also bothers me is McKay's arrogance. He feels that he's right all the time and no one else can help or know what to do. He showed this tendency on SG with Sam. he always felt he was more intelligent and knew what to do.
