The forum time has been changing occasionally through the day for me but it doesn't make much difference. It's probably something to do with the recent server move. That was my thought... the issue is trivial and irrelevent, I was just curious to know if my home computer was being wonky. |

Noticing something called flood control which appears to be in operation even though I haven't posted sometimes???? I know it is affecting others too, I tried to log out then log back in like Daf suggested, but it didn't work.
Its not that important, just irritating when you haven't been posting and its telling you to wait... |

I'm sure that Arc will get it sorted out in time (as I'm sure that a number of people have already PMed him about it). Remember people, this is the holiday period and Arc has already spent over 12 hours straight moving the site to a new server on Christmas Eve, so I don't think he wants to hear dozens of complaints about the flood control problem. Yes, it's a bitch that some can't post for a set period of time but it's not the end of the world.

The flood control issue should be resolved. Please let me know if you have the problem again, or any other problems.
BTW, nobody PM'd me about it. |

Everytime I log in and I have messages, it jumps to the error screen.
You know the one that says you can't do that action. I have to quickly click my in messages before the pop-up fully forms. Anyone else have that problem? Or is it my stupid Korean software and pop-up blocker? |

Anytime I try to activate it I get an error screen. I just turned off the pop-up notification feature that the PM system has... so it no longer comes up... course I have to look at the message indicator or I won't know I've got messages. |

I was having a look at the members list today, and found myself at the mod section...and it was hard not to notice how lacking we are in active mods. I'm not saying we don't have some great mods, but given what seems like a recent influx of spammers, it seems like we need more active mods than we currently do.
It just seems like we only really have two or three active mods, who are consistently here. I'm not saying this is anyone's fault, at the end of the day it's just a forum, and no one should be expected to be here all the time, but the problem could be solved with just a few new mods, in my opinion. Has anyone else noticed? |

Has anyone else noticed? I'd say recently as in the last 3 months, I'd noticed 8 out of the 16 listed in the mod team that have been active and say 5 of them more active thean the other 3. But that's up to Arcady what he does, maybe he's happy with that and doesn't think its our concern...all I will say is that I notice the regular 'donating members' are online more often than the mods, and also a few 'upstanding' members, who are not 'green' are more regular. |

We haven't had any problem (caused by people other than myself) with spammers really...
At least there are no spam threads, and only a few n00b threads here and there. The thing is, people should really have lives in addition to their online activities. Real life is important too ya know... I don't feel our number of moderators is a problem, we don't seem spread thin at all... |

You know... I looked in the Mod list after Parm posted to see exactly what Mods was he talking about. Here are the ones that didn't come here in longer than 8 months: Pennington - 13th February 2006 LoneWolf - 10th July 2006 Lezlow - 24th September 2005 JCL Canadiana - 25th April 2006 Personally, I think that the archive needs the Mods to be more active, there are over 12,000 members, and it's hard for only 2-3 Mods to handle them. Other Mods that are here regularly, aren't necessarily active as well... They're here but they don't Mod very often... Also, there is a hard issue with the timezones... There is apparently one active Mod for a timezone region. If that only Mod goes with his daily life, spammers are free to roam in that moment, without a Mod dealing with them... There was once or twice a case where one spammer entered the archive and started posting in ASCII or something, and the regular Mod that was the only one who could close those threads and punish him was not around for weeks. I guess Arc closed the threads eventually and banned him afterwards. There were even more examples in which trolls disturbed the forums and there were no Mods to deal with them online. A few Mods more active around from say different timezones would mean these guys would be sorted faster. These all are my personal opinions... There is nothing I can do though. I can only express myself... And this is the right thread. |

The thing is, people should really have lives in addition to their online activities. Real life is important too ya know... That's not the problem, mods aren't expected to be sitting around on their computers all day long hitting refresh every 10 seconds. The mods used to come on daily, and look through the forums ect but they don't come here anymore, there are a bunch of mods on the list who are simply inactive now. It's not just a case of them having lives so much of a case of them not being here anymore. People can do that and move on, but imo parm has a point maybe there should be some more active mods. parm has a point maybe there should be some more active mods. I agree, but not TOO active I hope. Part of the problem of having only a few mods is that the large amounts of responsibility placied onto too few shoulders can see some some overzealous behaviour that probably oversteps the Mod responsibilites somewhat. Many of us saw the recent event where a rather well respected member was banned for such a tiny incident...and other overreactions like that have happend in the past too. That being said, it was dealt with then, so I won't go into it any more. But having a few more mods could take the pressure off the "full time" ones we currently have, and might reduce any further incidents of needless & innappropriate mod reactions. It all works out in the end.
I was busy a while ago. Now I'm on vacation until March 2nd. So I try to stick my head in everyday. When Arc wants a Mod he says "I want a new Mod". then we get into the Octagon and battle it out to see who will be the next Ultimate Mod. Sorry they just started showing Ultimate fighter here. It's amazing what you'll watch when you're up late and bored. |

No new mods. Don't need em.
I remember trying to be a mod once. Had everyone's support cept the one that counts. Then again, if I became a mod, I wouldn't have had the good times(like when I was banned for 10 years..that was fun). lol |

Not all 12,000 members are active though of course and usually there are no more than about 30 members on at a time, so technically a few mods could handle them...however... There is only one active mod in the UK/Europe region, that being Daf...all the others are in the US or Canada, maybe one is Aussie or some other eastern place. So when the UK/European members are on, there is only Daf online (if he is around). (Its possible other mods who have weird sleep patterns are around, but thats not the point)... If there were to be any new mods, I'd say please choose at least one from the UK/European area, pref someone with a little experience, I asume that goes without saying though... That seems logical to me, but is just my opinion and feel free to ignore it This post has been edited by Pegasus Angel: Jan 6th 2007, 8:05 AM |

Like Odin said he's on holidays now so he's here a lot more often, but I know Dingo has been busy with Uni and can't make it on here all the time. BTW Welcome back Odin (*is looking forward to some good old fashioned Troll slaying Must admit though, Janos has been carrying the torch quite admirably. I don't know how much it needs a new Mod, but I'm sure that if Arcady feels like one is needed, he'll make it happen. We have two that I can think of in our region (Australia/East Asia)..SG Dingo from here, and Odin up in Korea. Poor Kane And who did you have fight in the Octagon for the position? Yes, but you're forgetting moments when there is night both in Europe and USA (North hemisphere winter time), but day in the Australia/Asia region. With only two Mods, and especially, as you said, one that doesn't come online too much anymore, things can be a little harder to handle. Again, I say, Arcady will probably appoint one more there, if he feels like one is needed. |

This was weird. I had been logged out and was viewing the forum, but my name was listed with the active users....even though I'd been presumably logged out for hours. And just to see what whould happen, I logged in. I expected to get an error message, but I got the normal log in jazz. WTF?
