QUOTE(Pitry @ Sep 26th 2005, 5:07 AM) Em, I think the problem is actually the Wraith. They were an excellent adversary - for one season. The writers have thrown themselves into a catch. You can';t move an over-all plot, because that would make the Wraith know Atlantis still exists, thus re-creating the Siege, and while that was an excellent episode, it can only be done once before it gets boring. For the same reason, the team can't really fight the Wraith, can they? It's stagnent and stuck., What we had with SG1, the first season, there wasn't an over-all plot. But while there was bad guy number 1 (Apophis), there were various smaller bad guys, Goa'ulds, Jaffa etc, the Replicators... Atlantis has already established that the only bad guys - real ones - out there are the Wraith. The Genii are too ambiguous to push aplot for more than a couple of episodes, unless they go through some massive change. And you have no other forces in the game. In SG1, by season 2, you did have the Asgaards, rebel Jaffa, something. Atlantis is cornered ion season two by the same thing that made the second half of season 1 so great. I have a question.. what about that virus from season one?? That made people hallucinate before dying... we dont know who made it yet.. do we? (havent seen new ep's) and well why culdnt a new enemy be brought in? |

This wasnt a bad episode. It's not the best mid-season finale I have seen. Everything happened too fast in this episode, the plot seemed to have been rushed. The second half looks as if it will be interesting but it will take a lot to make up for the first half.

Preferred this cliffhanger to SG-1's - I'm actually interested in what's going to happen!
I definitely preferred the Wraith bits as opposed to the...'stuck-in-the-cave' bits. It's always interesting when we find out something new about the Wraith, and we did find out a fair bit here. I hope Ford dies in the next part. I really do. That, or suffers (in the loosest form of the word) a personality transplant. Really. Meeouch, the new Wraith queen is a *coughhottiecough*. Anyone think she looked similar to that girl off Farscape? The one who was involved with D'Argo? Roll on Jan 11th! |

[Edit] Look at that face...that smooth, supple skin...and oh boy, what a smile! (and I retract the Farscape comment, her hair is far too long!) Same with the male wraith characters without the sheild on their face. There are only two actors that play the various roles. That is why some have facial art. To show they are different wraiths.

83% Now that's good Atlantis.
HOMAGE OF THE WEEK: The part where the dart goes Airbus and enters the hive ship was very similar to Independence. Note that I called it a homage. If it was a bad episode I would have called it heavy lifting. But since it's a good episode, I called it a homage. CHEMISTRY OF THE WEEK: Junkie Ronan and Junkie Teyla have got more neutrons flying around that a poorly designed plutonium explosive. There's nothing like domestic violence at the dinner table to say "I love you". CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION OF THE WEEK: Of course, Weir needed some screen time since her name is in the opening credits. Apart from that, her looking worried and expressing the usual idealistic, "There's always hope" routine didn't really serve much purpose. ADVANCEMENT OF THE WEEK: The compositing of Junkie Ford and his band of merry men against the big hive ship backdrop was more convincing than in 'Underground'. The wider shots were the coolest. STARFLEET DESIGN OF THE WEEK: The dart looked cool. I don't believe we've ever seen the interior like that before. But those Wraith engineers weren't very smart. The ability of a Wraith to fly the thing is purely dependent on the reliability of engineered components. If the HUD systems fail, the pilot is screwed. The jumpers on the other hand do it better. They have a transparent window that is failsafe but use HUD against that. MYSTERY OF THE WEEK: So how did Ford's little crying act allow him to discover Shepherd's true plan? If it was because it made Shepherd talk about it in a cave room where the walls were likely to have ears, then that's Shepherd's stupidity. MYSTERY OF THE WEEK RUNNER-UP: And how did the dart's DHD get disabled without McKay discovering it? How are they supposed to get back to Neverland if the DHD can only dial the address of the hive ship? VALUED TEAM MEMBER OF THE WEEK: I think we can say that Ronan has fully shrugged off his adolescent angst phase. He's now got obedience and loyalty. The line about impatience not being strong in his history was a good laugh as well. UPSTAGE OF THE WEEK: Ronan may have replaced Ford on the team, but Rainbow Francks was going to make darn sure he stole the scene between the two of them. Did he bribe the writer to make sure Ronan said very little? |

On an extra on the S1 DVD box set they talk with both characters that play the male wraiths. One of them is the one you mentioned.

IMDb only has James Lafazanos credited as playing male Wraith. They have Dan Payne credited as playing a Wraith Warrior. I have also read that James Lafazanos is the only actor that has played the main male Wraith. He is credited as playing the male Wraith in 'Rising' part 2, 'Suspicion', 'Poisoning the Well', 'The Defiant One', 'The Gift', 'The Seige' parts 1, 2 & 3, 'Runner', 'Condemned', 'Aurora', 'The Lost Boys' and 'The Hive'.

I went and quickly watched the Xtra and it says that Jeff Robinson plays the Darryl Wraith. However, John does most of them.
The xtra is called "Wraithal Discrimination: It's Not Easy Being Green." |

You can tell the ones that james laffy does as they all look exactly the same!! When you see a wraith played by a different actor you can notice the difference immediately!! Like the one at the end of the siege pt2. They really should get a couple of other actors to play them as well. I know why they dont but it would give the show slighly more authenticity if they did.
The talking role wraiths go to lafazantos "extra" wraith or other wraith often go to that other guy. |

MYSTERY OF THE WEEK RUNNER-UP: And how did the dart's DHD get disabled without McKay discovering it? How are they supposed to get back to Neverland if the DHD can only dial the address of the hive ship? Well, they said that the dart is capable of dialing only the hive ship, and back... so they could get back... The obvious mystery in this, is this: In Duet we see McKay pass out, twice, after he is beamed out from the dart, once on the planet, once in the Atlantis lab... Now, when Sheppard beams out the "bla-bla-bla team of Ford", they are all ok, and don't pass out... and what a damn coincidence that all three members who fall off the cliff are Ford's team members... Now, was the passing out bit fixed up by McKay on the planet? Cause that was never mentioned... Or is this a good nitpick? |
