This has got to be the best Stargate: Atlantis episode to date. I loved every minute of it. Beckett's line at the beginning:
"Rodney, you have a date...with a woman."
That was the funniest thing I have heard on the show in a long time. Everything in this epiosde worked so well.
The scene where Cadman first took control of McKay's body, after he fell asleep, when she he walked into the Infirmary was brilliant.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!! This had to be the funniest epsidoe ever.

I haven't laughed like that in SOOOOO long. My mum, and sister were laughing so hard too. It was the scenes when Cadman took over McKay's body, the way he wore that shirt when he went to see Beckett and touched his hand, BRILLIANT!!!

After the dinner, when McKay and Cadman were fighting for control of the body... absolutely outstanding acting by David. I just HAD to put in the scene....

QUOTE
CORRIDOR. Rodney is walking along very awkwardly.

McKAY: Give me back my body! We have to go back. (As Laura, as his walk changes to a more bouncy step) And do what? I bet that is the most honest you've ever been with a girl and it wasn't even you! (He struggles to walk as Rodney tries to take over.) (As Rodney) Why are you doing this? (As Laura, as he stops walking) We're just trying to do too much too fast, McKay. (As Rodney) We should, we should go back. (As Laura, putting his hand on his hip) Nope! (As Rodney)

Alright ? rock, paper, scissors. I'm the left hand, you're the right. (Laura doesn't answer immediately.) Cadman! (As Laura)

Fine. (He holds his fists out in front of him and jerks them three times before opening them. The left hand is rock; the right hand is paper.) (As Laura) Yay! Paper beats rock ? we leave. (His right hand points in the direction they should go, but then struggles as Rodney tries to pull it back.) (As Rodney) No, we ... (His right hand snaps back and slaps him around the face.) Ow! (As Laura) Get a hold of yourself, man! (He walks off, in a direction away from Katie's quarters.)

((((Transcribed by CALLIE SULLIVAN for Yahoo! Groups : SG1_Transcripts))))

AND OH GOD! when Cadman took over one last time, raised his/her hand, and went and kissed Beckett, i was crying. my sister fell off the sofa she was laughing so hard.

David Hewlett and Paul McGillion must have had SO much fun doing that ep. I hope they do a commentary on it for the DVD, and BOY is that a DVD i'm gonna get.

The episode was pure genius, definately the best and without a doubt the funniest ep ever. It was the kiss that made me almost hyperventilate with laughter. Bet the slash shipper will have a field day with that scene (even though Cadman was in control)

I LOVED it!!!!!!! w00t.gif

But crying.gif what happened to Ford, the credits crying.gif he's GONE!!!!!!!!

I haven't replied to anything in this forum for absolutley ages, but I had to comment on this epsiode!! It was fantastic, and I thought that David Hewlett's acting was first rate.

He managed to portray Cadman well (but not too over the top) and Cadman pretending to be Mckay was convincing as well, and you could clearly tell between the two.

Definitley one of the best atlantis epsidoes so far, and I'm also beginning to think Ronan will be a great addition to the cast!

Oh. My. God. LOL rotflmao_1.gif That is the funniest episode they've ever made!
I couldn't actually breathe for laughing...I've been looking forward to this ep for ages and it really delivered. That bit where Rodney went to sleep and then Cadman just took over his body..such a good bit of acting from David Hewlett there. And that kiss may one of the funniest things I have ever seen- the look on Carson's face afterwards was just classic!

"I am not crazy! I just have another consciousness in my brain!"

I'm really liking Ronan as well..I didn't like him that much last week but he seems like a good character. Also loving the new credits...go Paul Mcgillion having a place in the credits! Woo! Such a sweet moment at the end where he put his hand on Cadman's..awww smile.gif

Well, they asked for it. Again inspired by the very witty Cynic's Corner but written by me.

TREKKISM OF THE WEEK: A goddamn transporter accident! Usually, when shows run out of ideas they begin to cannibalise their own old episodes first. Here, they've skipped that phase and gone straight to cannibalising another show, which in turn was cannibalising another show, which in turn was cannibalising another show. We've got more cannibals than the ancient South Pacific. The idea of prisoners being stored in the transporter buffer was lame anyway and the notion that Cadman's consiousness was perfectly transferred to McKay's body with everything else normal, while her body remained perfectly intact in the transporter buffer was classical Trek absurdity.

REVENGE OF THE WEEK: Well Voyager did steal 'Beneath the Surface' in their double episode 'Workforce' so I suppose it was only fair that SG turn around and steal 'Body and Soul'. The only thing is they already used up that credit with 'Space Race', which was heavy lifted from 'Drive' so it looks like Voyager is looking the more ethical at the moment (although subjecting us to 'Fair Haven' pretty much squanders that).

HANDWAVING OF THE WEEK: This transformer, what does it do again? Something about converting to the right form of energy. What energy would that be? Voltage? Frequency? I suppose pseudoscientific handwaving around the idea of some abstract concepts of "different forms of energy" is preferable to pseudoscientific but also downright insulting technobabble about phase variances and inverse frequencies.

BAD ACTING OF THE WEEK: That would be Cadman. When she hijacked Mckay's body to get Beckett to come to the dinner, she could have at least tried to maintain the illusion it was McKay. The result was that it made Beckett look like an idiot for not figuring it out.

RUBICON CROSSING OF THE WEEK: Alright, so it won't be as big a civil war as the one on in Potter land over which one gets Hermione, but it seems like a shipper war over whether Shepherd or Ronan gets Teyla is imminent.

MISFIT OF THE WEEK: Who else? I know what the through line is, but before Shepherd goes all weak-kneed over Ronan, it would be nice if he had made some progress towards not being a jerk. It is consistent for him to be a social misfit, but the fact that this makes him come across as unlikeable means that I would have preferred it if Shepherd wasn't so eager to snap him up. After all, how is someone with no social skills going to be a team player?

ATLANTIS UNINTELLIGENCE OF THE WEEK: So as far as we know, the Wraith still believe Atlantis to be destroyed. Therefore, it is imperative that Atlantis expeditions remain undetected by them. Destroying the dart before it could make it to the gate makes sense of course but why aren't there heavy arms at the gate to ensure this. The team acted all surprised and unprepared when the dart appeared. This isn't Enterprise. We expect the Atlantis expedition to be intelligent.

MISSED BEAT OF THE WEEK: Actually, it's of the season really. The new title sequence has some class to it. I particularly like the cool wide Atlantis shots they put in next to characters. But putting the surfacing of the city during the build doesn't work. The way it was in the previous version was better with initial rising during the build.

Wow glom, tough act to follow! 1.gif (I love all things CC, homages and all!)

Am I broken? crying.gif Call me crazy (or said 'broken') but I'd say this episode was pretty average. Sure there were some funny moments, and us slashers will be rioting with R/C pics for months, but it just struck me as a run-o'-the-mill episode. Plus, and this rarely happens on Atlantis, I just didn't find the premise believable. Usually, the technobabble (though outlandish) has some sense of self-consistent logic, and generally requires little suspension of disbelief. This week though, everything just seemed a bit off. The fact that Cadman's consciousness transferred perfectly into Rodney's body, and that they were separated back into each others' bodies flawlessly (after the mandatory tech-MacGuffin that was, in my opinion, subpar this week) was really quite naff.

Speaking of said MacGuffin, as I've said, it's usually pretty easy to let the technobabble wash over you, but all this BS about wacky transformers and Gate-Wraith combitraptions (it's a word, go look it up! ... whistling.gif) all seemed a bit weak, and most importantly, rushed. The idea of combining the Stargate with the dart seemed more like a hasty brainfart at the end of the episode, the specifics of which weren't gone into. Booo.

Don't really like Roni/an one bit, which, okay, is a hastily formed opinion, but what can I say, first impressions stick. Hopefully he'll grow on me (purely because we're stuck with him!), but he just seems like such a stereotypical stoic warrior...and we've already got one of those! (...his name begins with a T!)

Sure, there were lots of good points that I could bring up, like the humour, the dialogue and the acting...but you've all already done such a good job of that! Plus, let's face it, it's far more fun to pick apart the minor niggles of the episode with our Chisels of Critiqueing! Huzzah!

I think the kiss was made up on the spot by D. Hewett. I read some where where he just three it in there which is why Beckett looked so very shocked. I guess we will have to wait until the commentary for it comes out.

This episode gets better the more I watch it.

Glom and Parmenides - reading your posts was the most fun I've had all evening. Keep up the good work chaps. Teehee. There's really nothing more for me to say...except Ronan isn't so bad. Give the guy a chance. He may be laconic, but by god, he has large muscles. That ought to count for something.

D Hewlett was excellent in this episode. When I read the spoilers for this episode I said 'Oh no, not again' (This topic has been done many times before in other series i.e. Star Trek Voyager) but to be fair I found this episode very good.

The episode really kicked in when Cadman took control of McKay's body - from there till the end it was hilarious, especially the part where Mckay falls asleep and Cadman takes control and looks for Dr. Beckett. Priceless biggrin.gif

Loved it, loved it, loved! I think thats the grea thing about atlantis. The did the whole serious/tense ep and then Whack! theres something totally hilarious.

Class acting. It remninded me of the whole Golum/Smeagol thing. It must have been really difficult for DH to act as though someone was tlking to him wen reli there wouldv'e just been a pause....(or maybe she was off screen?)

I liked Dr Macay's love interest, very beautiful.

Who cares about the special effects, it's the actors that make the episodes enjoyable, as demonstrated by 'Duet'.

I agree I think there is only one ep I would say is funnier window of operunity season 4 SG-1. This was funny as hell my favorite part was the date when rodney gets drunk and the lutenit takes over. becket is just confused. that was great. but he seemed different from when him and sam met in 48 hours and redemtion he was more of an ass less so in redemtion but the way he acted just dint fit his past.

the top right dot would also have been a great story esp for fic and ship writers. smile.gif

lol... this episode was just funny all over.

and again "you were there" was a good enough reason.
like when carter used it in thor's chariot. and this time its still just as funny--and to think of all the people to use it again.

and wow ronan and weir brings back the memories of the good old days with Jack and Random Guess star scientist w00t.gif biggrin.gif and there does seem to be a bit of Jack in every atlantis team member. except for kavanagh whos just a d***.

I doubt it. In 'Duet' TPTB made it pretty clear that McKay is interested in someone else - Katie, the person he has dinner with - and that Cadman is interested in Beckett.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this board. Thought I would sign up as I have just started seeing season 2 of Atlantis.

I thought Duets was the funniest episode to date for Atlantis. I was in stiches throughout. Especially when Cadmin started taking control of Mckay's body while he was asleep. Like 'Window Of Opportunity' in SG1 ( another hilarious episode-have watched it so many times now) I don't think this one was meant to be at all serious. I read someone say that David Hewlett overdid the feminine role when Cadmin was 'in charge' but I think he probably had to, to make it immediately obvious that this isnt Rodney talking.
I so enjoyed this episode and can see it as one of the eps I turn to when I'm feeling low and need a bit of light relief.

This episode is definitely the funniest so far (up to this episode, that is)
McKay was just GREAT in this and I think Daniel pulled of the duel personality just GREAt. Definitely one of the episodes I'll be watching over and over again while I wait for Season 3 to come biggrin.gif

Did anyone notice that when Dr. Weir comes to have a chat with Ronon, after that small demonstration with that guy... she calls Sheppard a major...?
QUOTE

DR. WEIR: Ronon, can we have a word?
RONON:... Hold this...
DR. WEIR: Now, I understand Mr Sheppard has invited you to join his team...

Now, I didn't read this entire thread, I'm very busy sometimes, I'm sorry if it was said before, but did anyone else notice this? I mean, I wonder if it's a nitpick or she actually was supose to make this mistake about his rank...

I believe she did call him Major. I doubt it was a mistake in the script, it was probably just Torri making the mistake since she had referred to Flanigan as Major Sheppard hundreds of times during season 1.

Yes that kiss right at the end with Mckay and Beckett...I mean i'm suprised that there hasn't been anything negative over that part of the script and it did bring some huge comic relief to the series.
And the way Beckett squeezed Cadmans hand at the end shows that hopefully we'll see her return (i think she does, doesnt she?) and it would be good to see her in a recurring role.

I haven't been on in awile (obviously) but I decided to respond to this episode.

OMG I loved it! IT was so funny. First of all, a big hand for David Hewlett playing Rodney AND Cadman. To play off yourself like that (the therapy session...lol) takes alot of talent and skill and he did it quite nicely. Kudos! bow.gif

Secondly, to those of you who don't think comedy should be in an action/adventure show, what do you think have you been watching for the past 2 years? Probably more if you watched SG-1 first. Comedy is a key element! Whether it be in small doses (a line here, a joke there) or big doses (think WoO here ppl). Stargate, while being action/adventure, has a comedic element to it also.

With that aside, I just love this episode. I've loved Beckett since day one and am glad he's getting more screen time on episodes (go Paul's agent!) And the interactions between McKay and Beckett and McKay/Cadman with Beckett! Classic! Though, you have to feel sry for Beckett; being hit on by Rodney even though Cadman was the one doing it. I can't wait for season 2 to come out on DVD and listen to the commentary on that episode! You KNOW it'll be done by David and Paul. Love the humor, love the acting, loved the kiss (lol and Rodney's reaction after he realized what Cadman had done.....along with everyone else reaction.) Cadman was an ok character but I really don't want her to come back as a major character. Sry, that's how I feel.

All in all this ep. is an 11 out of 10!
