These are questions that are asked over and over (both on the forums and via email to me), so I am posting them all here in one place to make it easier to track the latest frequently asked questions:

Q. What happened to Daniel Jackson?

A. In the episode ?Meridian? (season 5, #21) the inhabitants of the planet Kelowna were experimenting with a powerful form of naquadah which they called naquadria. There was an accident. Dr. Jackson?s heroic measures saved the day (and probably about half the planet) but during the course of preventing the explosion he received a lethal dose of radiation poisoning. Just before dying, he ?ascended? to a higher plane of existence. See this topic.

Q. Will Michael Shanks be returning?

A. Yes. The entire cast has signed contracts for a 7th season. See this topic.

Q. When will Season 3 DVDs be out?

A. They are scheduled to be released the week of June 17th. Season 4 will likely be released about September, 2003. Note: These are Region 1 DVDs (North America). Region 2 DVDs are available for several more seasons, but will not play properly on a Region 1 player. See this topic.

Q. When will Season 7 start?

A. June 13, 2003 ( & around september on sky one in the Uk [probably])

Q. What happened to Season 5 on SciFi?

A. Although the SciFi Channel has the rights to play reruns of Stargate SG-1, because season 5 is still being shown in syndication, they will have to wait a bit before showing it. Look for it around September.

(If you have any more questions to add to the FAQ, please add them below.)

Here are some frequent questions from the Science and Technology section. Some of them don't really have answers, so I linked to the relevant discussions in those cases. Please read them before posting new topics...

Q: How does the Gate/DHD work? How does the coordinate system of symbols work?

A: Discussed in Gate Theory 101

Q: How does the Iris work? Why doesn't the "splash" break the iris?

A: Discussed in The Iris

Q: How does a hyperspace drive work?

A: Discussed in The Hyperspace Topic

Q: What kind of gun does SG-1 use? Why are we still using guns instead of zats and staff weapons anyway?

A: They use the P-90. More discussion in Weapons

Q: In Children of the Gods, how does Apophis activate the stargate without a DHD?

A: It's either a production error, or he has a little remote control DHD thing hidden somewhere. More about that here.

Q: How do goa'ulds make babies?

A: Only goa'uld queens can reproduce, and they need a DNA contribution from the host species. Discuss it further here.

Q: What's the 9th chevron do?

A: Your guess is as good as anybody's. Discuss it here.

Q: What's Naquada? What the difference between Naquada and Naquadria?

A: Naquada is an element that does not exist on earth. The Stargate is made out of Naquada, and goa'uld hand devices and healing devices require naquada in the blood to work. Naquada can power portable generators, and "weapons grade" naquada can significanly enhance nuclear weapons. Naquadria has been described as an unstable form of Naquada. It's extremely dangerous and radioactive. And it fuels our hyperdrive. Discuss it further here or here

I have some questions without answers, and I believe that they should be in the FAQ... I couldn't find one so I'll post them here... a mod can delete/edit this as seen fit pls.

TO add to you're Posting 'Kung-Foo' these are some tips

So you can see the code, I have displayed all square brackets [] as Parenthesis ()

################-
Bold And Italics:

For Italics
Put (i) before the text you want Italicised and (/i) at the end

For Bold
put a b where it has i in the italics section

Be creative, you can do stuff like this:
Once There was A person who was very Bad at Board Code... so he Decided to do something about it. He was a hopeless case that would NEVER Become good so he gave up.

################-
Link To another webpage:

to get something like this:
Type: Click (URL=WebAddress) Hyperlink Text (/URL)

To get something like this:
www.sg1archive.com
Type: (URL)WebAddress(/URL)

################-
Insert A Quote:

A Standard Quote looks somewhat like this:

QUOTE

This Is My Quote... Like It?

Type: (QUOTE) Contents Of Quote (/QUOTE)

################-
Email:

For This:
E-Mail Me
Type: (EMAIL=Address) ClickableText (/EMAIL)

################-
Spoilers:

This is a collapsible spoiler box:

» Click to Show Spoiler «

It is good to explain what the information is inside the box just before.

Type:

(spoiler)
Used in cases where information could potentially ruin a suspenseful moment. For information not everybody wants to know.
(/spoiler)

##################
I want to know how to post a picture...
Change The Color of the text, as well as size
and do the list... also what the code does

And I'm sure that there are others out there that want to know all of this also

I want to know how to post a picture...

Only moderators can attach an image, but anyone can have an image display in their message. It has to be on the web somewhere though, and some web hosting sites don't allow other website to link to their images. (I think geocities is one of these)

Anyway, you can use the IMG button, then paste in the url to the image, or do it manually by typing the following:
CODE
[IMG]http://www.bluehurricane.com/images/redchil4.gif9[/IMG]

This shows up as user posted image

QUOTE
Change The Color of the text, as well as size

Use the color drop-down menu. Or type
CODE
[COLOR=purple]purple text[/COLOR]
You can choose blue, red, purple, orange, yellow, gray, green, or you can type the hex code for a custom color. (if you write html, you know what I mean about hex codes - otherwise, forget I said anything...)

Size works the same as the COLOR feature. You can use the drop-down menu, type in in manully. Your choices are Small, Large, Largest.

QUOTE
also what the code does

CODE is what lets me explain what the codes do, without the codes actually do anything. So above in the COLOR explanation, it displayed the actual code with the square brackets, instead of displaying purple text

Anyway, these things are very similar to html, except we use square brackets instead of <>.

Heh, I have a good question I haven't been able to find on the boards (or maybe I've been searching poorly..)

Will SciFi be airing Season Six again from the beginning until the new eps. air in June?

how about a character/plot FAQ, to answer all those questions new fans have, from "what is the gold thing on teal'c's forehead" to "is there something going on between o'neill and carter" which would (maybe) avoid people starting those posts over again and again.

also, an FAQ on the races, as in "who are the tok'ra?", "who are the asgard?"

here are some newbie q&as. A mod could probably link to discussion archives much better than I could.

What is the gold thing on Teal'c's forehead?

It is a gold-infused tattoo of the symbol of Apophis, the goa'uld Teal'c served before joining SG1. Other jaffa can be identified by black forhead tattoos of the goa'ulds they serve, which may or may not appear different from Teal'c's depending on who they serve or served. Only the first prime, or leader of armies, receives the honor of the gold tattoo. Introduced in season one.

Why do almost all the inhabitants of other worlds look human?

The humans encountered on other worlds are all descended from the early cultures of Earth, known as the Tau'ri or first world. The goa'uld enslaved them and scattered them throughout the universe to serve them. Explained in season one, episode two.

Is there something going on between Col. O'Neill and Maj. Carter?

Early on, the writers developed a romantic subplot that surfaces from time to time, mostly in seasons three and four, but to date has never been consumated in this time line or version of reality. Aside from the big question of how it would affect the show, the reason is arguably because in reality military regulations would prohibit a romance between a commanding officer and a subordinate. The issue is one of heated debate among fans who appear evenly split on whether the characters belong together at all. The actors are uninvolved in real life.

What is a goa'uld?

The goa'uld are a parasitic race of beings which require human dna to procreate and prefer to exist by taking over a human host and controling the host body. Their actual form, outside of a host, is a snake-like fish about a foot in length. Each goa'uld is born with all the knowledge of all goa'ulds before it, passed on through genetic memory. They are uniformly blood-thirsty, bent on conquest, and upon their own pleasure at the expense of others. Introduced in season one, episode one.

What are the tok'ra?

Tok'ra is a goa'uld word meaning "resistance" or "against Ra" (Ra is a goa'uld that was defeated). The tok'ra are goa'ulds who believe the host relationship should be one of mutual benefit rather than conquest. A tok'ra prefers to "blend" with its host as a consentual agreement and tends to view all other matters with the concepts of compromise and equality. Hunted as outcasts by the goa'uld, the tok'ra become allies with the humans of the Tau'ri. Introduced in season two, episode two.

on that note... I am sure that it might be a good idea to set up an automatic messaging thingie for when people first log in. It shouldn't popup though, because people tend to close those before they load...

anyway... it would prevent a large portion of thos annoying posts...(which I hate to say, I have one somewhere in the Archive somewhere sad.gif ) and all you have to figure out is how to send them a Pre-formed Message out to them when they log in for the first time, but not EVERY time.

Think about it

I've never seen one and I don't know if there is enough information avaliable to start in it's development. It can be done, it's just a matter of devoting the time and research.

If you are referring to points of origin, then you could compile a list from those shown on the show, but it would be pretty small. We often see gate addresses, but points of origin are more rarely seen. I am pretty sure that there is no official source of these symbols and their respective planets going beyond that which is given on the show.

If you're meaning just the symbols on the Stargate and gate addresses then there are larger lists out there, but again we haven't seen many. You can get a list of the 38 symbols common to every gate/dhd, but I don't think this is what you mean is it?

I think there is a pretty decent list of glyphs/addresses and points of origin at http://www.rdanderson.com, although I don't think it's been updated in a while sad.gif
